Wrap Up Party - The Psychology of Money @ The Grove

Thu, Aug 20, 12:30 AM
From Cafe Finance

We have finished the first book, The Psychology of Money. Tonight will be a wrap up party. Come and share which concepts in the book resonate and impact you, which one you will adopt when managing your finance. We will also do the followings * Write down your financial goals to achieve by the end of this year * Select the next book to read * Suggestion and feedback **Agenda** 5:30 \~ 6:00 pm Sharing and Networking ( You can buy or bring food to eat while we are discussing the book) 6:00 \~ 7:30 pm Book Summary 7:30 \~ 8:00 pm Conclusion & Final thought **About the book** Doing well with money isn't necessarily about what you know. It's about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people. Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don't make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In the Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to mkae better sense of one of life's most important topics.

Composition & Photography: A Hands-On Workshop with Harold Davis

Composition & Photography: A Hands-On Workshop with Harold Davis

Mon, Aug 17, 4:00 PM
From Photography with Harold Davis
4.7

**What:** *Composition & Photography: A Hands-On Workshop with Harold Davis* **Where:** Maine Media campus, located in the town of Rockport on the beautiful Maine Coast **When:** Monday, Aug 17, 2026 – Friday, Aug 21, 2026 **Info and Registration:** [mainemedia.edu/workshops/item/composition-photography-a-hands-on-workshop/](https://www.mainemedia.edu/workshops/item/composition-photography-a-hands-on-workshop/) **Description:** Guided by Harold Davis (author of *[Composition & Photography](https://rockynook.com/shop/photography/topics-and-techniques/composition/composition-photography/)*), learn the tools and visual vocabulary to creatively design your photographs. Of all the magical elixirs that make up a successful photograph, composition is perhaps the most fundamental, and at the same time the most elusive. What makes a composition “good”? It’s hard to define exactly, but we instinctively recognize good composition when we see it. There is an undeniable emotional response when a composition resonates with and complements the subject matter of an image. In this hands-on workshop, we will approach composition as an instance of open-ended two-dimensional design. Photographic exercises will start with simple shapes, such as lines and circles, and proceed through patterns and repetitions, and onwards to spirals, fractals, and abstractions. Field sessions will take advantage of the “target-rich” mid-coast Maine scenery. Classroom discussions will be intended to provoke thought about composition basics and continue to enable individual integration of the process of composition into each participant’s creative practice.
