Discover SF -- Fillmore Jazz Festival & Golden Gate Fireworks

Discover SF -- Fillmore Jazz Festival & Golden Gate Fireworks

Sat, Jul 4, 8:00 PM
From Bay Area Active & Social - 20s, 30s & 40s
4.7

WhatsApp: https://chat.whatsapp.com/LadHXfZeEqp8bMokGFSVbH \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- **Update**: Received update from the festival volunteer coordinator that they would take us that want to try volunteering, even as the 3-7pm slot is taken off line. So we are good. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- Time for another journey, these are the sites we are going to cover: * **Painted Ladies @** Alamo Square Park, SF landmark * **Fillmore Jazz Festival** * **Golden Gate Bridge Fireworks** for the 250th Independence day (informational). Get ready for some new **memories**. Send us your new in towns, the young professionals, the transplants, the job seekers, the singles, all those that could use new connections, TownFlame welcomes you :). The Fillmore Jazz Festival is the West Coast's **largest** free jazz festival, twelve blocks of historic Fillmore Street, multiple stages, 50,000+ people. This year's lineup: [https://www.fillmorejazzfest.com/lineup/](https://www.fillmorejazzfest.com/lineup/) By what we learned from our **Sunnyvale** festival, a few hours working shoulder-to-shoulder is the fastest way to turn strangers into friends. So two tracks to attend the festival: Crew building via **volunteering** track: For all those that could use new connections. The **heart** of the day. We take an afternoon shift as a crew, helping run the festival. No experience needed — you'll be paired up and shown the ropes. They didn't mention issuing volunteer T-shirt this year, so bring one if you have from other occasions. **Register** below, choose the July 4th 3-7pm shift: [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf2bPS5SHBkgqFYUiO2uux4TfS-zhzcGEuhP3uZ14KArQgPDg/viewform](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf2bPS5SHBkgqFYUiO2uux4TfS-zhzcGEuhP3uZ14KArQgPDg/viewform) Or use the main festival website at: [https://www.fillmorejazzfest.com/](https://www.fillmorejazzfest.com/) Festival **social** track: Walk to the festival, then walk together to each volunteer's post, attend the festival in groups, then regroup for group dinner together after volunteers' shifts ended. **The day:** ☕ **12:30 — Meet at The Mill** (736 Divisadero). Grab a coffee, find the crew, quick hellos out front. Come on time to do the start with the group, otherwise you would come in a room with relation already started. 🌳 **\~1:00 — Stroll to the Painted Ladies.** A short walk over to Alamo Square for the best skyline view in the city, a group photo, and proper intros on the lawn. 🚶 **\~1:30 — Walk in together.** A scenic \~15-minute walk up through some of SF's prettiest blocks, straight into the heart of the festival. 🎶 **Afternoon — Into the festival.** Group volunteering side by side, Live jazz across the stages, food from local kitchens, and new connections you have chatted and walked all the way. 🍜 **\~6:30 — Group dinner in Japantown.** Festival's right next door to some of the city's best ramen and izakaya — we'll find a table and keep the good company going. ✨ **Staying for the fireworks? (Optional & Info only**) Golden Gate Bridge is having fireworks directly from its towers, the 3rd time in history, for the 250th Independence day. Plus barges near Pier 39 and Aquatic Park, starting around 9:30 pm and lasting about 20 minutes. Discuss with your new friends and make a plan. * **Crissy Field / Marina Green / Fort Mason** — our top pick this year. Wide-open lawns with unobstructed Golden Gate Bridge views, and a straight shot north from the festival. Best angle on the bridge launch. * **Pier 39 / Aquatic Park** — the classic, livelier spot, better for the barge show. * **Twin Peaks** — a panoramic perch where you can see the bridge, the bay, and the skyline all at once. Risk of fog though. **Join [TownFlame](http://https//%5B%5Bwww.meetup.com/townflame%5D%5D(%5Bwww.meetup.com/townflame%5D)(%5Bwww.meetup.com/townflame%5D(www.meetup.com/townflame))), Make Life Happen.** **Liability Waiver:** Participation in TownFlame events is voluntary and involves social interaction in public spaces. From crisis to conservation: Empowering action for biodiversity

From crisis to conservation: Empowering action for biodiversity

Fri, Jul 10, 2:00 AM
From California Native Plant Society Yerba Buena (SF) Group
4.8

We are living in extraordinary times that can challenge our ability to feel hopeful about the future. To meet this moment, California Native Plant Society has launched two ambitious multi-year biodiversity campaigns: a conservation campaign focused on saving native plants in their natural habitats, and an urban biodiversity campaign that aims to transform the built environment with native plants. In this talk, we’ll discuss the virtuous cycle of hope and action, and where the native plant movement can have the greatest impacts, now and for future generations. Dr. Jun Bando is the executive director of the California Native Plant Society, a nonprofit conservation organization with more than 13,000 members, 35 volunteer-led chapters, and a statewide staff based in Sacramento. She earned her Ph.D. in ecology from UC Davis and her professional background includes work in public policy, higher education, foreign affairs, and national security.

Meetup: CA has the Strongest Rodenticide Restrictions. Help Keep it that Way!

Meetup: CA has the Strongest Rodenticide Restrictions. Help Keep it that Way!

Sat, Jul 4, 6:00 PM
From Direct Action Everywhere: People Who Love Animals
4.9

Rodenticides are devastating not only to wildlife and ecosystems, but also to their primary victims: rats and mice, who suffer prolonged and agonizing deaths from these poisons. Join us for an important and inspiring discussion with Dr. Rebecca Gooley about the incredible progress that has been made in California to ban nearly all rodenticides and why this work matters so much. Dr. Gooley will explain how these poisons harm rodents and then ripple through our environment, harming owls, hawks, foxes, bobcats, mountain lions, companion animals, and countless other animals while threatening entire ecosystems. She will also share the latest industry attempt to undo the legislative progress and how each of us can help fight back. We'll also introduce a new app that will empower anyone to identify and report rodenticide bait boxes in their communities, turning awareness into action. Immediately following the meetup, we'll put that knowledge into practice with a rodenticide surveillance event where attendees can begin documenting and reporting bait boxes right away. Whether you're passionate about animals, conservation, or creating a more compassionate world for all species, this is a conversation—and an opportunity for action—you won't want to miss. Fresh coffee, tea, and a delicious plant-based brunch will be provided at the Meetup as well! **Where:** Berkeley Animal Rights Center West (2414 6th St, Berkeley) **When:** Saturday, July 4th 11am-12:30pm **What:** Community hangout and presentation \- ARC West is a 30 minute walk from North Berkeley BART and only a 10 minute walk from the 51B bus stop at University and 6th St\. \- Dogs that like other dogs are welcome at this event\! \- There will be plant\-based brunch and coffee\, donations accepted \- If you cannot join in person\, you can join at 11:15am on Zoom at this link: [dxe.io/meetupzoom](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdxe.io%2Fmeetupzoom%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExOEdGQWxmOHpkS2dYdjhLN3NydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR6c_XPrVVcXsNuFugEGWc779OeSgunbq-n7A-5c80gWy6ePLrnguA4OX_Fcbg_aem_YWdncwM1A2uZiUbfgUSX4aDMBwyh%26brid%3DYWdncwGx6Ei-mvrGHz-cDYYePgtu&h=AUBRUa3YLYxSulFVS37OalFfjyCMSy-bidPaS3YgBdqPSGH5Z1Zwhov9JzUWuRCmpQ0ADMXGsmal2VT8b7Z1rwk7tg3keuejBeTj0xcDwyElZYGx3FZ4GC91fSlBfkUlDowN69FL6qL5IaXHkhxY5QVIbcHw_kRf&__tn__=q&c%5B0%5D=AUA2Poiogtm0AR_p-LF3uVgTbTqEUyBcEpoDmtUaXEkN4v_tpu6d5_PG2LFMX7iQop-lI6aG_lJG734rh9obWb0M0ZRt2BHGnfcHVlRvQD6jr7oY7fwlR_UJkINGyYNofRN-TAk5ECrp8zP3eNa97Ayk6Pd2hvUATSY) Every Saturday at 11am we have Meetups for everyone and anyone who cares about animals and making the world a better place!
