🧺🌿 Philosophy Picnic: Crito

🧺🌿 Philosophy Picnic: Crito

Sat, Aug 8, 1:00 PM
From Philosofools

Join us for a relaxed philosophy picnic in the park! This time we’ll be discussing **Plato’s Crito** using the excellent modern translation by the **Platonic Foundation**. **📖 Do I need to prepare?** Before coming, we’d love it if you could read this short and accessible translation of *Crito*: [Link To Platonic Foundations Easy Read](https://www.platonicfoundation.org/translation/crito) Don’t worry—it’s only **9 pages**, and this modern translation makes Plato surprisingly easy to understand. ⏱️ Short on time? You can ask an AI to summarize or simplify it and be ready in about **10 minutes**. Even if you only read part of it, you’re still very welcome to join! 😊 **☀️ Whats the vibe?** 💬 No philosophy background is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to hear different perspectives. 🌱 We’ll keep things relaxed and conversational. Simple questions often lead to surprisingly deep discussions, and that’s exactly the atmosphere we’re hoping to create. **🤔 Questions we might explore** • Have you ever followed a rule that you thought was unfair? Why? • Is there a difference between doing what is **legal** and doing what is **right**? • Which matters more: your own conscience or what other people think of you? • Socrates argues that we should never do wrong, even if we’ve been wronged. Is that realistic? **🧺 What should I bring?** Bring a blanket, maybe a snack or drink, and come enjoy an afternoon of thoughtful conversation, fresh air, and good company. 🌳☀️ Looking forward to seeing you! 😊

Lazy Friday swim

Lazy Friday swim

Fri, Aug 7, 7:34 AM
From Berlin Cycling
4.9

========== FACTS ========== ROUTE: Templin > Lübbesee > Gollinsee > Joachimsthal LEVEL: Intermediate DISTANCE: 30ish kms MEETING POINT: 09:30 - Berlin Südkreuz ========== FACTS ========== ========= DETAILS ========= **ROUTE:** This is a lazy Friday ride to TWO crystal clear lakes. The first lake even has a "Beach Bar"! While we just hop into the first, we will hang out on the second lake for about 2-3 hours. Later we try to get some food in the "[Zum Kaiserbahnhof](https://zum-kaiserbahnhof.de/)" before we head back to Berlin. It is also called "…Lazy Friday…" ’cos I’m to lazy to plan and write a new description each Friday! And since hosting events brings not only joy (sometimes) it also causes (sometimes a lot) of stress. So the minimum number of attendees is 6 that it makes sense to go in a group. **\>\>\> Oh\, and if the weather is not nice so am I \(means I may cancel if its not really "swim like"\)\. Final decision is made on Thursday\.<<<** **MEETING POINT:** 09:30 - Berlin Südkreuz, on platform 4 for RE5. I have a blue Villiger Trekking bike. But you can hop in at any other station if you want (and dare). **WAY OUT:** 09:34 - dep. Berlin Südkreuz, platform 4, taking RE5 to Grimmen 10:13 - arr. Oranienburg, platform 24, switching trains 10:23 - dep. Oranienburg, RB12, platform 20, 11:18 - arr. Templin Stadt **WAY BACK:** 18:08 - dep. Kaiserbahnhof Joachimsthal, RB63 18:30 - arr. Eberswalde, switching trains 18:52 - dep. Eberswalde, platform 4, taking RE3 19:39 - arr. Berlin Südkreuz We can try to get the 16:08 train but that depends on the mood and water temperature. **TICKET:** I'm tired of organising a BBT and don't get the shares back. So everyone is getting its own ticket. A "[24-hour ticket bicycle VBB network](https://www.vbb.de/en/tickets/tickets-for-your-bicycle/24-hour-ticket-bicycle/)" ticket which is about 7,50 EUR, migt be useful. **SPEED:** Leisurely around 14 km/h, at least if the wind doesn't come from the front. This is like "Being able to see the details on the side of the road and enjoying the view in general… and have a chat." **DISTANCE AND TERRAIN:** This is an about 30ish km ride, with mainly mixed and soft but also some solid ground. In general: Bikes with thin tyres (Race bikes, Road bikes, Fixies), rented bikes (Uber, Swapfiets) or any special bikes (Folding bikes, BMX etc.) are not suitable! You won't have fun, trust me! And if you want to bring Kids or Animals please get in touch before! **RECOMMENDATIONS:** Check the train schedule in the morning! The DB loves to stir up the plans by changing trains on short notice! If anything happens the Meeting point is the starting point of the cycling. While we usually stop somewhere for a lunch and/or coffee please always bring your snacks but especially some drinks along! And, PLEASE make sure your bike is in a proper state! Check your tyre pressure and oil the chain! Does your light work? Having a toolset is highly recommended and a spare inner tube to fix a flat tyre a big plus! While we might be able to help in some circumstances please think about what happens if we can't! Thank you! Bringing special equipment (Helmet, safety vest etc.) is NOT required but welcome if you feel more safe using it. ========= DETAILS =========

Ultimate Frisbee in the Park - summer edition

Ultimate Frisbee in the Park - summer edition

Wed, Aug 12, 4:30 PM
From Ultimate Frisbee in Wedding
4.9

Hi everyone. We'll meet and play a relaxed game of ultimate in Volkspark Rehberge if the weather cooperates. Our games focus on having great team play, where the teams work together to advance the disk down the field. It's more important to work well together as a team than have a few star players get a point with lucky shots. For this reason, players of all skill levels (especially those who have never played) are welcome to join Bring plenty of water, shoes you can run in and comfortable clothing that can get a bit dirty. Although we're an established group, newcomers are always welcome. After the game we try to spend some time together and have fun. Finding us: We meet in this big grassy area, it's a short bike ride from the subway stop Rehberge on the U6 or Amrumer Strasse on the U9. It can be a bit tricky to find the first time, so we've got a few methods to help out (don't trust the meetup map pin, it often shows some point in the park, not the exact spot where we are) 1. GPS: 52°32'54.9"N 13°19'51.0"E ; 52.548581, 13.330842 2. Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/xbZgaXzMSMt 3. the helpful picture here https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/8/8/f/highres_451930383.jpeg *This event may also be photographed and/or video-recorded, and published on social media channels such as meetup and eventbrite.* *By participating, you acknowledge and accept the risk of injury while playing Ultimate. Although adherence to the rules, proper equipment, and common sense reduce this risk, the risk of serious injury does exist; and, you willingly and freely assume all such risks.*

Philosophischer Stammtisch - Für Nicht-Philosophen ohne Stammtisch-Niveau

Philosophischer Stammtisch - Für Nicht-Philosophen ohne Stammtisch-Niveau

Tue, Aug 11, 5:00 PM
From Berlin Philosophie Meetup Gruppe
4.5

**For our English speaking members** We will have one table where the discussion is in English and you are welcome to join :) **Topic** Will be soon announced.

Lento.cc #1 — Lost in Brandenburg Bikepacking Weekend

Lento.cc #1 — Lost in Brandenburg Bikepacking Weekend

Fri, Aug 7, 4:00 PM
From Lento.cc

Hola! I’m looking for a few people who’d be up for a 2 & 1/2 day bikepacking adventure from Friday (after work) to Sunday. The plan: 🌲 Explore [Lost-in-Brandenburg Loop](https://bikepacking.com/routes/lost-in-brandenburg-loop/) (from Berlin around Brandenburg and back - find the komoot link below) 🚴 Gravel, forests, lakes & quiet roads ⛺ Camp along the way ☕ Take it at a nice pace, enjoy the ride and the company Around 260 km over 3 days, so a bit of a challenge but totally doable with some cycling experience. The route mixes gravel, sandy forest tracks and beautiful Brandenburg landscapes. No racing, no pressure — just people who want to explore, ride and have a good weekend outside Berlin. We can adapt the route together, find nice camping spots, and make it our own :))) Let me know if you’re interested!

Bindung - philosophisch betrachtet

Bindung - philosophisch betrachtet

Sun, Aug 16, 4:00 PM
From PHILOSOPHIE-PARTY Berlin
4.2
