Easy Hike Along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail

Easy Hike Along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail

Fri, Oct 9, 9:30 PM
From Lansdowne After-hours Active

Join this new group to be a part of our first ever event (be an OG)! ...a brisk hike on the Heritage Trail, along Goose Creek, to the Potomac River. We'll rendezvous at the Riverpoint Drive Trailhead and follow the shoreline to the Bazil Newman Riverfront Park. This easy hike along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail covers approximately 3.5 miles of clearly marked dirt trail, with about 40 feet of elevation gain. We may see some deer. The hike itself should take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete. Bring plenty of water; full cover clothing is suggested, as this is tick season and mosquitos are still active this time of year. All participants assume all liability for their own participation. Accidents are always possible; no one will be held liable. Some attendees might elect to go get a refreshment or a bite after the event itself; however, the Meetup event itself formally ends at the trailhead. Looking forward to meeting you for this inaugural Meetup event!

This wonderful 30.7-mile route is available at: It starts at Aldie Park, avoids highway 50, and leads through spectacular landscapes on rustic, mainly asphalt roads. We have a few miles of compact gravel road. **REMEMBER:** This is a self-guided event. This event empowers each participant to take the lead, as there are no designated bike leaders within E-bike Lovers. We all embrace the role of leaders in this self-guided experience. Please only RSVP if you are coming, so we know how many E-bike Lovers will participate. We enjoy a nearly 100% RSVP success rate. Thank you so much for your help! Afterward, we optionally meet at Chrysalis Vineyards near Aldie Park. We met the vineyard management when we planned this route, and we could picnic with our food and use their facilities. They have excellent pizzas, wines, etc in the backdrop of beautiful hills. Parking for this Meetup is at the small Aldie dam off Route 50. There are no toilets at Aldie Dam. We will bike through the center of Middleburg, where we may find restrooms. The vineyard where we meet after the ride has excellent facilities. Yes, you can join as many groups as you like. Meetup allows you to be part of multiple communities, enriching your experience and increasing your options for biking events.

The frequency of events varies by location and organizer. In active biking communities, you may find events regularly during weekends, but it depends on local group activities.

Of course! Many groups welcome all skill levels and focus on inclusivity. It's about enjoyment and learning from others, so check group descriptions for any skill level details.

Log into Meetup, find an event you want to attend, and click 'RSVP'. This lets the group know you're coming and helps organizers prepare appropriately.

Typical gear includes a helmet, proper bike, protective padding, and water. Specific requirements often depend on the event, so always check the event details or contact organizers.

Meetup itself is free to join. However, some events may have fees, especially if they're professionally organized with additional resources provided. Check event details for costs.

The availability of groups is location-dependent. If no groups exist, consider starting your own Meetup to gather local biking enthusiasts and organize rides.
