From NYC walks: Nature, beauty, & peace
4.8

**WALK INFO:** Let’s take a free ferry from Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan to Red Hook, Brooklyn--an isolated, fascinating neighborhood on the waterfron. We’ll have lunch at the Red Hook ballfields, surrounded by food trucks from Central and South America. After lunch we'll visit a juried art show in a huge, converted Civil-War-era warehouse. Next we'll experience a brief guided tour of the Barge Museum, a historic vessel from the 1880s. Then we'll grab some key lime pie, get a close view of the statue of liberty from a waterfront park and pebble beach, and possibly view a quirky collection of 1950s memorabilia if time permits. **FERRY INFO:** GET ON THE FERRY LINE NO LATER THAN 12:15 PM BECAUSE THE BOAT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE EVERYONE. IF MEETING ON THE RED HOOK DOCK, PLEASE ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 12:45. Take the free Ikea ferry, run by NY Waterways. We can't all stand on line together, so we'll assemble on the IKEA dock when the ferry arrives, at around 12:40. Feel free to meet us there by 12:45 if you're driving or taking the bus. And please be sure to use the bathrooms at Pier 11 unless you can wait until 1:30 or so. **ENDING TIME:** We'll return by ferry at 5:05, THOUGH YOU CAN LEAVE EARLIER by catching the 3:50 ferry or taking the bus from Ikea to the F train at any time after lunch. **DISTANCE**: About 3-4 miles. **COST**: At least $2 donation at both the art show and the barge. Plus $1 CASH for me. **TRANSPORTATION**: Closest: 2 or 3 train to Wall St. Or 4 train to Wall St. (No 5 there this weekend.) Or A,C train to Fulton St. Please Google MTA planned service changes for weekend changes on your subway lines.
