trashscapes: a noticing (and photo) walk

trashscapes: a noticing (and photo) walk

From trashscapes: noticing walks

**LOOK DOWN MORE!** A casual walk through the East Village for anyone who wants to slow down, look more carefully at what's around them, and capture what they find. On this walk, we'll move slowly through the neighborhood looking for things worth pausing at and then figuring out how to capture them. I suggest a phone or camera, but feel free to bring a sketchbook or whatever you prefer. Any amount (including 0) of art experience is welcome. :) **this event is pay-what-you-want. the suggested price is $10** **want to pay $5? use promo code "five".** **want to pay $1? use promo code "one"** --- This walk is inspired by trashscapes—an ongoing photography project that started with a simple habit: noticing the accidental compositions of debris and found matter on NYC streets. Over a decade of daily walks, the habit became an archive of what gets left behind. I'm drawn to the way found matter interplays with the city's infrastructure—using it as framing, finding balance in color and form, and making the incidental feel composed.

Guided Mindful Walking in Nature - Governors Island Edition

**Though the body we move in nature, with our mind/consciousness we are part of nature.** **MINDFULNESS - the practice of maintaining a nonjudgemental state of heighted or complete awareness of one's thoughts, emotions or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.** **MINDFUL WALKING - a practice that enhances mental clarity and reduces stress by fostering a deep connection with the present moment (the here and now) through awareness of each individual step and the Sight, Sound and Smell of the surrounding environment.** **Take the 10:00 am Governors Island Ferry from the Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street).** **You can book the ferry online or at the BMB.** **(check the Governors Island website for complete information)** **Please read the below information carefully and take the time to view the myriads of videos available that explain the concept of Mindful Walking.** **Let me begin by thanking you for accompanying me on a work in progress to develop a methodology for teaching and leading a Mindful Walking workshop, my goal is to guide/lead the novice through an unfamiliar or complex procedure in a step-by-step process so that they can attain a basic level of skill and knowledge in the practice of Mindful Walking. Upon meeting at the Governors Island Welcome Center for a brief introduction we will proceed to Nolan Park and commerce with a breathing and exercise session, followed by several training practice walks that will introduce the attendees to the techniques of Mindful Walking.** **For the remainder of our Governors Island adventure, we will alternate long bouts of conversation flowing walking sessions with shorter bouts of silent guided Mindful Walking sessions (which will transverse the natural scenic beauty of the The Great Promenade and The Hills).** **Because of the workshop nature of this event, I will limit the number of attendees to ten (10) people. When you sign up, you will be placed on the Waiting List. Attendees will be manually moved from the Waiting List to the Going List. Am looking for First Timers to attend these training events. My future vision for this method of training is to present many workshops for first timers, mixed with separate events for those adepts with the Mindful Walking concept. Furthermore, I will expand the range of this event to scenic natural locations (including waterside venues) around the Greater New York area.** **Our journey will end at back at the Welcome Center.** **Will be walking at a moderate (not slow) pace. The walk will last three hours and will cover about 4 miles. There will be ample restrooms stops and a 20-minute snack break at Picnic Point.** **Heavy rain/snow or other forms of extreme weather will cancel the walk. Please check this site for updates.** **LEADER: Bob Lazzaro email: rlazzaro4@aol.com.** **I will use a voice amplification device to foster better understanding and clarity between myself and attendees.**

Come join us for a free 3 mile walk in Central Park every Saturday. We'll be departing at 10am from the Bridle Path entering the park from the 90th St. & 5th Ave. entrance. We’re the NYC Chapter of Ever Walk – an international movement to encourage people to walk together to enhance physical and mental health. Founded by one of the greatest women athletes of our time, Diana Nyad, and her coach and friend, Bonnie Stoll. Diana swam from Cuba to Florida in shark infested waters without a shark cage - check the movie NYAD on Netflix if you want to be inspired! **The Basics** * **DISTANCE:** 3'ish miles round trip. * **START:** Meet at 9:55am and leave right after instructions and announcements. We really do! * **DURATION:** About 90 minutes - 2 hours. * **PACE:** 23 minute mile conversational pace. If you can walk a city block in about a minute and a half, that’s our pace. * **PATHS:** Mainly on a mixture of dirt and asphalt paths with small rolling hills, and sometimes wooded trails and steps. * **MEETUP SPOT:** Start and finish in the same Central Park location every week on the Bridle Path (dirt path) - enter the park from 90th St. & 5th Ave. and cross the road with runners and cyclists. Last Call for Long Beach ⛱️

Last Call for Long Beach ⛱️

Mon, Sep 7, 2:30 PM
From Carpe Diem
4.9

As Summer comes to a close, I thought one final beach excursion would be fun. The plan is to make a return to Long Beach, Long Island on Labor Day weekend. If you haven't been to this particular beach before, traveling there by train is stress free. The plan is to catch the **11:06 am** train on the day of the event. The group will meet at Penn Station in front of the LIRR schedule board and wait for the track number to be released. Once announced, we board the train and the Long Island Railroad takes us directly there. The beach is just a short walk from the Long Beach train station. Please be advised, entrance to the beach costs around 16 dollars. After our day of relief and relaxation, the group can grab a bite to eat nearby and visit a local brewery called 'Bright Eye Beer Co'. [https://www.mta.info/schedules](https://www.mta.info/schedules) If you have questions or need to get in contact, my number is 917-769-2168.
