This group is primarily for people over 40. To encourage commitment, there is a small fee for your first three events only. At first, it may just be the two of us, until more people join the group. 🗣️ Arabic Practice Circle: Social & Structured Session

A regular meetup for those committed to practising and improving their Arabic. It is designed for those who know the very basics and want a structured opportunity to practise reading, listening, speaking, and building confidence. If you're still learning the very basics but want some motivation to keep going, you're very welcome to join. Note: This is a practice group facilitated by a native speaker - not a formal teacher or taught class, and not a Quran teaching session. 📚 SESSION FORMAT: ⏱️ 30 mins Intro & Social: We'll go around and introduce ourselves in Arabic. Feel free to prepare 2-3 sentences beforehand if you don't like being put on the spot! 🗣️ 60 mins Structured Practice: A focused session practising together with guidance : ◾ Taking turns reading passages aloud ◾ Listening to excerpts from an audiobook ◾ Working together to translate and understand the text 💬 Continued Socialising: Feel free to stick around afterwards for more informal chat and connection. ✊ Note: Active Muslims is equally about focusing on the actual activity, in this case, it is a practice session requiring mental engagement and active participation (and not just a social), therefore it is advised to approach and attend these events with that mindset, intention and purpose. 📍 LOCATION: Kismet Café ⏱️ TIME: Meet from **11:00am** for intros and socialising. Let's Do Salsa and Bachata Classes!! (2 Hours of Lessons & 1 Hour Social Dance)

Salsa Classes are finally here! We will be going as a group and doing it in style with a 1 hour Salsa (Cross Body) class followed by 1 hour Bachata Class. Both of these are the most popular latin dances in the world and now will be your chance to learn them. For the final hour there will be a social dance, where you are free to dance as you wish. **Class Levels** There will be 2 rooms one for levels 1 & 3, and one for levels 2 & 4. Majority of our group will be at level 1. Over the years countless students have told them that learning to dance Salsa and Bachata has changed their lives. Weekend afternoon open jam (Free) + social | 23rd Aug 3pm, Vortex downstairs

Afternoon jam and performances, free and open to a public audience and participants. Anyone at any skill level can join in to play (or sing) - mostly jazz standards. There is no fixed repertoire, and what is played depends on what everyone calls - please put your name and instrument (or vocals) down on the sign up sheet, which will usually be on the downstairs bar. Earlier arrivals will usually be asked to play first, so you may wish to plan to come early. The house band will also play a couple of songs throughout the afternoon, including from the [future standards](https://www.vortexjazz.co.uk/event/future-standards-3-2024-04-14-2024-05-12-2024-06-09-2024-08-03/2024-09-22/) repertoire - which everyone is also encouraged to call. Contact me for sheet music. There will also be a possible break for a 30 minute novice+, improver or intermediate set. Many people also come to the open jam, who are looking to join a novice+ or intermediate rehearsal for the first time, so I can get a sense of your playing first. Go Ape!! Treetop Challenge @ Cockfosters (4 X SPOTS LEFT)

Go Ape is Finally here! This is an outdoor adventure which runs tree top ropes courses. You are FULLY equipped with a harness, ropes and a safety briefing before you start and given a practice ground-level experience before you're let loose to roam the treetops. There is staff nearby to assist if required. You don't need to be strong and muscle-ripped, as long as you can pull yourself a long a rope, you'll be fine. **Location** This will be at the Cockfosters Location, which is the London location most secluded in nature, feeling like you are in the middle of a forest whilst being not too far from the tube station. This course is great for guiding you in as it starts low and builds up.
