It is the highest pass in Slovenia as well as the highest in the Eastern Julian Alps. The steep mountain road features plenty of hiking trails, lodges & stunning views along the way. You may see the **magnificent Lake Jasna**, with mountainous landscapes of the Julian Alps and emerald waters. You will not mind the 50 sharp bends since the scenery is breathtaking. There are 2 waterfalls – the pearls of the Slovenian Alpine world under the Špik Mountain, right opposite our hotel Špik. **The Upper Martuljek Waterfall** is especially spectacular, as it descends in three levels over 110m of a vertical wall. **Peričnik Waterfall** is unique because you can walk behind it. We can not miss the **symbol of Slovenia - Lake Bled** and the Vintgar Gorge, where we can walk around and through. But seriously - do you look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at both the beauty and the wonder of the **universe?** How it began, our place in it, how life evolved and where else in the cosmos other non-microbial life might live ( 99% of stars have exoplanets orbiting - some similar to Earth with atmospheres) so u have to be naively delusional to believe we are alone in the universe)? **And no I didn't make it up - unless you live in hibernation or have zero idea about our greatest endeavours - you'll know NASA really have found the best evidence to date of ancient life on Mars following further scientific verification of the biological signatures of current microbe life discovered on Venus a few years ago.** So we'll defo take a look at the red planet as well the majestic rings of **Saturn and it's** potential life harbouring moon, , the international space station, Tau Ceti star with **2 Earth like planets** orbiting in the habitable zone, remnants of **supernova** witnessed by our early ancestors plus a range of other fascinating celestial wonderments (comets, star systems, **galaxies**) over drinks and engaging chats and banter this Aug fully hosted by me - a passionate amateur astronomer and former global Reuters journalist covering cutting edge big picture science related stories. The world renowed **BBC Television Sky at Night** also attended our events pre covid and interviewed some of us for it's show that aired on BBC1 in Feb 2019. BBC **Radio London** (94.9 FM / digital) were there Aug 2023 to cover our meteor shower event broadcasting live to millions of Londoners for 3 hours You don't need a telescope as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have your own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you setting it up if you're a newbie. **====ITINERARY=====** We will meet outside Camden Station. After a short wait for anyone delayed, I will escort everyone to our observation point in the park about 15-20 minutes walk away and brief you in terms of what to expect, observing etiquette, tips, equipment handling and take any questions you have - weather general or astronomy/cosmology related. **After Drinks:** on work nights - unless I have a important 9AM Thursday deadline for a client presentation I need to deliver or something - most of us usually head our way back to Camden for another drink till about 1am. 🌳 FREE BANK HOLIDAY HIKE – 🌿 London’s Farthing Downs & Happy Valley Loop

On this **12–14 km adventure**, we’ll swap city streets for sweeping chalk downs, hidden valleys, and peaceful woodlands. Meeting / starting around **10:15 am** outside **Coulsdon South Station** \- platform 1 exit \(meeting point & finishing point\)\, the urban world quickly disappears behind us as we step into wide open skies\, ancient paths\, and landscapes that feel truly wild\. We will aim to finish by max 2pm before lunch. **Highlights include:** ✨ Panoramic ridge walking on **Farthing Downs** ✨ Shady woodland trails through **Happy Valley** ✨ Wildlife-rich grasslands and late-season countryside colours This hike is the perfect mix of views, variety, and atmosphere — proof that you don’t have to travel far to find nature at its best. *** #### What to Bring 🥾 Good hiking shoes/boots (chalk paths can be slippery when damp) 💧 At least 2L of water + snacks 🧥 Layers & a waterproof jacket (it’s autumn after all!) 📸 Camera/phone for the big sky views 💪 A positive spirit — it’s called *Happy Valley* for a reason! *** #### Difficulty **Moderate** — mostly easy-going with a few short, sharp climbs.
