Seniors - Interactive & Therapeutic Music Session - Playing, Jamming, Dancing!

This meetup group is all about appreciating the wonderful music (pop, soul, rock, jazz) of decades past, roughly encompassing the 50's to the 80's. We use music to facilitate interaction and for the therapeutic benefits, especially for seniors, of rhythm-based music therapy. As a professional drummer and songwriter, I have found that listening to and enjoying music from a rhythmic standpoint has great benefits for people of any musical background. The only requirement is that you enjoy music too! This particular group is open to all individuals in the area who are at least 55 years in age. I have carried out many sessions like this with great results, as I especially love bringing joy to seniors, who too often don't have viable social opportunities and don't have any way of revisiting good memories from their youth via music. The primary reason to join this group is to HAVE FUN! To expand on that, the fun you have during these sessions is based on simultaneous appreciation of music and positive social interaction with an individual who is not necessarily in your age group (ME!). If you would like to enjoy not just listening to music, but interactively getting INSIDE the music by rhythmically playing along or clapping, then join! If you are looking to meet other like-minded, music-loving seniors, then join! If you want to have a unique experience enjoying music you love while creating lasting friendship, then join! While I certainly offer musical knowledge with each session and information regarding the instruments and the music that I bring, my priority is for you to have a great time while also possibly learning something about music! In a typical session, we begin by chatting for a few minutes about music (or any other topic!). Oftentimes, I will then do a quick performance to demonstrate the rhythmic approach to listening to music. Then, I pass out small instruments to whoever may be interested while we play, sing, clap, and dance! If you have limited mobility, you can still join in with small percussion instruments that I bring, or you can simply watch and listen. You will forget your aches and pains for an hour as we jam together within the context of music you love, like Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Benny Goodman, the Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, and a whole lot more. I often dance with and interact with everyone in the room while we play our instruments and forget our worries inside the music. If you're a senior who loves music, join our group today! Day Trip to Huntington Library, Art Museum, Gardens & Tea Room

We will be taking the first 20 ladies who sign up and will allow a waitlist. Sherman Oaks [Beginner-Intermediate] - Social Guitar Practice!

Let's get together in the park to talk, play, and practice guitar! Everyone can bring a chair and acoustic guitar and we can have some fun. Meet under the big tree on the park side of Huston & Calhoun intersection. Bring a chair! Everyone is welcome to bring songs for the group to work on. Please bring print-outs of the lyrics with chords for everyone to reference as that will make it much easier for the group to learn. Lower Intermediate to Intermediate Pickleball in South Pasadena (FREE)

Come join us for weekly friendly games of lower intermediate to intermediate level pickleball! Our goal is to create a group of reliable regulars and newcomers that are roughly the same level and want to play mainly for social fun and exercise, but still challenge themselves to play better and better. (This is our first event to just to get things going, but once the heat subsides we'll set our permanent time and confirm the location) **LEVEL**: Lower intermediate to fully intermediate, approx. 2.8-3.5 level. We are friendly and welcoming, but this is **NOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS OR EVEN ADVANCED BEGINNERS.** If you are advanced intermediate (above 3.5) feel free to join us, but take it easy on the smashing and be encouraging towards the rest of us. **HOW IT WORKS:** We'll play on two courts and ideally we need 10-12 players for the best experience. **EVERYONE WILL GET TO PLAY MOST OF THE TIME** and against most other players. No cliques here! The winning pair on court A will move to court B and the losing pair will stay. The losing pair from court B will queue up for court A. Everyone will switch partners each time. Most people will keep on moving in-between the courts depending on the level of their partner and one should not care too much about the court for a friendly experience. **COMMITMENT:** Because we need exactly 10-12 people it is important that people sign up only if they are certain that they will attend and drop out as early as possible, if necessary. We need eight people to start and finish on both courts, so please be on time and plan to stay for full 2h. If some people want to play another 1/2-1h I will stay to provide the nets. Indoor Pickleball

**Noho Pickleball is located in what used to be the Bin Store. They have three regulation courts available and are actively adding amenities to the recreational space.** **We have reserved a pickleball court for 90 minutes. The cost is only $10 a person. Please be ready to pay on the day of the event. This is a beginner/intermediate level casual play event.** **I am opening it up to 6 players. If you reserve a spot and then need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours ahead of time to give those on the waiting list a chance to play.**

Our event operates in public court space on a first come, first serve basis. Volunteers dedicate their time to setup and share with our attendees and community members. Hike around Haunted Hayride

We will walk around the haunted hayride to check it out. Walk is easy walk less than 1 mile. We are NOT going on the rides or inside. We will walk on trail that goes around it. They usually charge for parking so tell them you are here for a hike and not a customer of the ride. We will meet in front of the merry go round. We will wait 15 or so minutes.
