Monkey Canyon Falls Adventure

the first part of this adventure is very difficult. We will climb down a steep rocky slope with the help of ropes dropping 300 feet below the highway. The trail is not slippery, but do not attempt this if you have not climbed a slope with the help of ropes! We will get wet after we get to the creek, hiking a total of 3 miles. There will be lots of rock scrambling, meaning you will use your arms a lot. We will reach the top of a 25 foot waterfall which some loonies slide down into the pool below. I do not recommend doing this. We will return by climbing the steep 300 feet uphill slope using ropes. This is very strenuous and is considered very difficult. Silver Lake South Urban Stair Hike, Level: Moderate++

Come join us for a challenging workout and for meeting new people to do an urban stair hike in the Southern part of Silver Lake, a beautiful part of town with steep hills! This time we'll go clockwise and we'll be climbing three double staircases up and passing through Silver Lake Peak. **LEVEL**: Intermediate Plus for speed and length. Extra PLUS for the amount of stairs/steep hills we'll be conquering. We are a friendly group that loves to socialize and encourage newcomers, but please note that moderate++ level of cardio fitness and brisk walking speed are required. **LENGTH**: 5.1 miles, 1300 ft gain, (which as a stair hike may be tougher than it sounds!) 11 long staircases up, 6 down + steep hills. +/- 2h moving time. **SPEED**: Brisk, faster than most moderate hikes, but below advanced ones. We'll take a short pause to re-group at the top of the stairs and the steepest hills. Bring a phone for navigation just in case you want to leave early. **BRING**: Exercise outfit, workout shoes (hiking shoes are not necessary) and water. Sunscreen? Strong, friendly dogs are welcome, but we do not wait for dogs. **LOCATION**: We'll meet at the corner of N. Benton Way and Berkeley Ave. at 8.30am for introductions and take off sharply at 8.35am. Urban Hill Hike in South Pasadena, Level: Moderate+

Come join us for a good workout, for meeting new people and for exploring unique neighborhoods to do an urban hike in the hilliest part of South Pasadena, one of the most upscale neighborhoods in NELA. We'll be traveling through winding hill roads, a few staircases and some secret pathways. We'll get to enjoy pretty green streets, beautiful houses and great views. **LEVEL**: Intermediate Plus for length and the speed. The route itself is moderate, no extreme climbs or rough paths. We are a friendly group that encourages newcomers, but please note that moderate+ cardio fitness and fast walking speed are required. **LENGTH**: 6.5 miles, 1100 ft elevation gain. Two sets of stairs. 2 1/4-2 1/2 hours. **SPEED**: Brisk, faster than most moderate hikes, but a touch slower than Steve's advanced speed hikes. We'll take a few short breaks at the top of the hills to regroup. There will be no sweep; bring a phone map just in case you want to leave early. **BRING**: Workout clothing and water. Summer 2026: Let's walk across or around a country

This is a trial balloon to see if there are adventurous people out there who'd like to walk across or around a country in 2025. Yes, walk across or around a whole country. There are several such paths of about 100 or 200 miles that can be walked in a week or two. For instance, the Coast to Coast path in England, Hadrian's Wall, Offa's Dyke, the Isle of Man Coastal Path, the Wexford-Pembrokeshire Pilgrim Way, etc etc. Some have inns to stay the night, others might involve stealth camping. Some have more elevation gain and tougher terrain than others, but this isn't like climbing 14ers. It might be possible to bike parts of some routes. The walking could be combined with other \*optional\* activities: \- going to football matches\.\.\. \- drinking beer and eating so much fish and chips we need a mercury detox\.\.\. \- almost getting arrested for lèse\-majesté\.\.\. OK, those are what I'll be doing. You can choose your own activities. The specifics for all this are open, I'm just trying to gauge interest. Let's go to the California Avocado Festival in Carpinteria by Train!

What could be more quintessentially California than a festival paying tribute to the Avocado, full of different guacamoles, and getting there on the Pacific Surfliner? This is the 40th year they've been having this festival. There is even Avocado ice cream! Entry to the Festival is free, and the booths are sponsored by local non-profits to raise money for their worthy causes. We've done this trip a couple of times, and it's always been fun. This unique festival is in Carpinteria, only a couple of blocks from the Carpinteria Amtrak station. It's one of the largest festivals in California, with three days of fabulous food and terrific music. [https://avofest.com/](https://avofest.com/) In case you didn't know, Santa Barbara County is the third largest avocado producer in North America, with Carpinteria being a major contributor. As the Festival has grown, so do the number of participants and festival-goers. In past years, over forty non-profit groups benefited by catering to 100,000 avocado visitors. The California Avocado Festival™ itself is a non-profit group that generates its own operating revenue each year. The annual event is completely organized by a committee of volunteers, and includes one part-time staff person. Our group will take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, to Carpinteria. We'll walk to the Festival from the Amtrak station, just a few blocks. Greetings All, We will be heading to the Sacramento River Delta. It is a great place to wakeboard, waterski, sky-ski and camp. Century City Ski Club has been going to this location for well over 30 years. This years dates are: June 25-28 July 16-19 August 13-16 September 24-27 You can arrive on the Wednesday afternoon before the trip to setup camp. We will not be supplying anything on Wednesday. The actual trip starts on Thursday morning with Breakfast. The trip ends on Sunday around 11 or 12 in the afternoon. Please help wash and wipe down the boats when they are pulled out of the water. These are 2, 3 or 4 day trips. The costs are: $175 for Saturday-Sunday, $349 Friday-Sunday or $439 Thursday-Sunday If you just want to camp and eat with us, the costs are half of the above prices. Please remember that even if you RSVP here, you are not on the trip until we receive your waivers and payment. Before you leave for the delta, contact us to see if there are any others that might need a ride. We do not supply transportation to the delta, so carpooling will help you and others. We supply food and beverages for Breakfast, Happy Hour and Dinner. Lunch is on your own (if we have on Friday and Saturday leftovers you can indulge in, but ask before taking), there is a café near the camp site. We do not supply vests, skis, wake-boards or sky ski's.... BUT... we do have extras, so ask if you don't have any we will try and help. We supply the boat(s). You'll need a tent or RV or Trailer (added fee for parking RV and Trailer) or any other kind of sleeping arrangement (car camping). Please contact us for more info. Please remember to bring lots of sunscreen, a hat and towels. The weather can change from cold to hot and hot to cold in minutes, so bring something to keep warm just in case.
