A HIKE, SUNSET & ABBA. (Then The Retro?)
Sat, Sep 12, 4:30 AMSometimes I write these events up and think "Wow. That's gonna be a great hike and wine. A terrific event." Other times I think *"Gulp. Here comes a lovely hike, then some chaos."* But... a lovely hike finishing with sunset on Sydney Harbour Bridge with perfect Sydney Opera House views with an ABBA cover band sounds like grand fun (and chaos) to me! **THE HIKE.** Taronga Zoo to the CBD is a not-too-often hiked journey, and it's lovely... hidden beaches. It will be so, so hard not to stop at Mosman Rowers (or shall we for a quick one?) But onward to beautiful homes, neighbourhoods. And of course the journey over Sydney Harbour Bridge and a Sydney Opera House sunset - delightful. It's 10kms, and it's pretty easy. Some bush. Some beach. And some perfect views. **ABBA.** ABBASBACK is on at **Harbour View Hotel**. I can only imagine how cheesey, how bad, and how fun this could be. I just left Harbour View Hotel for a chat with the manager - we're good for 35 hikers with an email confirmation, but she also said "The door is open. Make sure you're early. We'll let you all in, but if it's packed... well it's packed." So, I think a 6pm hike finish / pub arrival is a good time. No cover charge for the show. ABBA starts at 730pm. I then took a walk to **The Retro**... a classic Sydney nightclub at The Bristol that is back from the dead and meant to be FUUUNNNNNNN. They open at 9pm. Manager said we are all welcome. No cover charge for the nightclub. See you soon for a great event. MJ ***AN AD FROM THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT.*** ***September!!! WE HIKE... to the YACHT PARTY 2026! REGISTER INTEREST!
Wed, Sep 9, 12:00 AM**Howdy hikers. A few ladies gave me a nudge last weekend. At last nite’s drinks event? A few more. So? It’s time to Hike… to the Yacht Party 2026. Please note - this event is not next Friday - just giving you all a week to register your interest to attend so I can yacht shop! We Hike to the Yacht Party 2026 will be on 17th October 2026!!!** Click "Attend" if you’re keen - not "Hmmm maybe" but rather "Fahk yes. I'm in there!" I’ll need to start hunting for the right yacht size. Last year we did 46 hikers, and the day went really well like this: a) We hiked. Optional. b) We had an hour to change clothes. Grab some BYO. And lube up at bar in the CBD. c) Yacht departure by Sydney Opera House. 3hrs. d) Yacht drop off at King St Wharf. e) Finished with our own private section at MJ’s local bar (we’d switch it up this year - we had drinks at Helm Bar last nite, and their private area was really nice, and they do duelling pianos on Saturday nites - fun, fun, fun). October is a great time, as we change the clocks then, and the prices are still lower season before they go way up in November. Who’s keen? Hit “Attend” and **[JOIN THE WHATSAPP GROUP HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ig0MHnm7TLFFC1rupyF28N)**. Last year it was $100 per head. This year it will prob be a similar amount and a few bucks more. Should we partner with another group? We could make it a biggie and mix in some new folks – message me if you have a group in mind, as I don’t do anything in any other groups. Thanks! MJ

SPIT BRIDGE to BALMORAL BEACH to Mosman Rowers 12kms Hike!!!
Sun, Sep 13, 12:00 AMThis delightful Sunday Session has it all... beautiful hidden beaches, amazing architecture, military history, perfect Sydney Opera House views, and some bush walking around Taylor's Bay that makes you feel like you're in Tropical North Queensland. And to finish it off? **[Mosman Rowers](https://www.mosmanrowers.com.au/)** is undoubtedly one of the best hidden secrets on Sydney Harbour for a fish and chips and a wine or two... Adding an unforgettable ferry ride to Circular Quay is the icing on the Sunday Session cake. **THE HIKE** We meet just behind the bus stop at **[Spit West Reserve](https://maps.app.goo.gl/faPKgPtqXfJV4QiU8)** in the park... you'll see me in a NY hat patting some dogs no doubt. The 144 bus, 172x, and 173x all drop there - easy as. From there we'll ascend into a stunning section of Mosman then head down to **Chinaman's Beach** \- definitely one of Syd Harbour's prettiest\. From there another climb then down to **Balmoral Beach**. Ahhhhhh a classic. A stroll through Balmoral then some stairs to get us huffing and puffing to **George's Head. Chower Bay. Clifton Gardens. An incredible bushwalk to Taylor's Bay. Bradley's Head. Taronga Zoo... then onward to Corner Beach** (you've prob only seen it from the ferry) and finally **Mosman Rowers**. Mosman Rowers (bring your ID to sign in, though I've never seen anybody checking) is one of a kind... it *oooooozes* local history, the food is damn good, and the views are stunning. I'm not sure a pub on the water in Sydney duplicates the lovely, calm energy like Mosman Rowers. Your first drink won't touch the sides. **[IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THIS HIKE. CLICK HERE.
