Chelsea Afternoon (New York Day Trip)
Sat, Sep 26, 5:00 PMI think a case can be made that the Chelsea area of Manhattan contains more galleries than anywhere else in the universe. (I'm making an assumption here that other intelligent life somewhere out there doesn't have "art" and "galleries" as we know them. :)) Whether or not the above is true, let's at least make a dent in the huge number of galleries in this neighborhood by starting in the middle and heading south. I'll work up a detailed and specific itinerary within the coming weeks, but let's say straight off that we'll meet at 1:00 at Jim Kempner Fine Art, a gallery on the Northwest corner of 23rd Street and 10th Avenue that is pretty much impossible to miss because looks like a multi-level contemporary house: https://www.jimkempnerfineart.com/ The first thing you encounter upon walking in is the sculpture garden: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-new-york-city-ny-usa-modern-architecture-art-jim-kempner-fine-art-50949706.html https://www.vaadia.com/exhibitions/jimkempner_2011.shtml So let's meet there unless it's raining or really hot, in which case, let's just go inside and meet on the first floor. Other places I'd like to include in the day's outing are Little Island, Pier 57, the Highline (which the photo in this posting is taken from), and, if people are really interested, Hudson Yards. I will probably be sticking around to attend the Brooklyn Book Festival the next day and can help people get to trains and busses if that's wanted or needed. :) More to come!

Transit Museum Bus Festival @ Brooklyn Bridge Park
Sat, Sep 19, 2:30 PM**Event Description** Emily Warren Roebling Plaza will become an open-air time capsule showcasing more than 90 years of New York City bus history. Four stars of the museum’s vintage fleet will take center stage. Organizers are promising a few surprise guest vehicles—rare appearances that even veteran transit buffs might not have seen in person. All will be open for boarding, offering the chance to explore the interiors and imagine a commute when the fare was just a nickel. https://www.nytransitmuseum.org/bus-festival/ **Meet Up Location:** On the stairs in front of Jane's Carousel [Brooklyn Bridge Park - Pier 1](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&hs=j8Vq&sca_esv=88955b1080c15925&rls=en&sxsrf=APpeQnu1TlfxOZa2tOIk_zpT5xYpyKHu7A:1787761454519&q=Brooklyn+Bridge+Park+-+Pier+1&ludocid=13020448155564767201&lsig=AB86z5VpsA7An-yV7J7Wpzq7ZIpb&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiT5cGz2r6WAxV91vACHZRdEq0Q8G0oAHoECEEQAQ) 1 Old, Dock St, Brooklyn, NY 11201 Friends and family welcome! If interested, we can grab a coffee or bite afterwards

Visit to Dia: Beacon
Sat, Sep 12, 2:30 PMLet's make a visit to Dia: Beacon, a contemporary art museum located in Westchester, NY. After viewing the exhibits on display, we can explore the town of Beacon and have lunch. Admission to the museum is 25 dollars. Please purchase your ticket in advance. [https://welcome.diaart.org/](https://welcome.diaart.org/) Our means of transportation will be the Metro North. We are planning to ride the **10:56 am** train. It's approximately a 90 minute train ride to Beacon. We will all meet at the information booth located at Grand Central Terminal. If you have questions or need to get in contact, I can be reached at 917-769-2168.

Afternoon Picnic at South Mountain
Sat, Oct 3, 6:00 PMJoin us for an afternoon picnic at South Mountain - good food and good company among the trees and various other greenery :) We are potlucking snacks, so please bring snack to share or snacks you know you'll eat. Ideas include chips, salsa/guac, crackers, drinks, desserts, especially stuff that's easy to share and sample. We recommend that you bring something to sit on, as we can't guarantee that we can snag enough picnic tables for everyone (we aren't renting a pavilion for this event to keep it free). If you want to bring your children or pups, this would be a good event to do so! Parking: this one is on the northeast side of reservation - Turtle Back Rock Picnic Area. See this pin of the lot on gmaps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EHBhvjLpd3K5x78J7 Photos of the parking lot and picnic tables are attached. We are picnicing 2-4pm. **Optional:** After 4p when we're all cleaned up, anyone interested can join for a casual 30min to 1hr easy hike that starts/ends at the picnic area. Please keep your RSVP current so people have an idea of how much food to bring. You are responsible for your own safety when participating in any Meetup activity. Hope to see you there!
