I am heading to Kirkwood, from bay area, every weekend, starting December 6th, until season lasts. These will be day trips only. Have a couple of spots available in carpool. Climb to only one of three remaining fire towers in the National Park when you embark on the strenuous trek up Mt. Cammerer. You can take it “easy” on a moderate hike to the park’s highest single-drop waterfall, Rainbow Falls. Then, inch out to a bald rock outcropping on Charlie’s Bunion to get your heart hammered by mountain scenery in every direction. We’ll be targeting morels and porcini, and learning about all the vibrant montane ecology around us along the way. We’ll explain what happens in the forest after a fire, both ecologically and from a human management perspective. We’ll cover mushroom and plant anatomy for identification, mycorrhizal relationships (fungal- tree/plant partnerships at the mycelial/root level), poisonous and edible mushrooms, and forest safety. Find the mythical “fairy fart” mushroom, the gorgeous purple cup fungi, and more! The program also includes ethics of harvesting, community building, mindful movement, a cooking demo, and a tasting at the end. Learning to forage for mushrooms is an ongoing life path. This program will teach you the foundational skills to go out foraging on your own. #### **Where and When** Dates are individual classes, not a series, all 10am-3pm May 2, 3, 9, 10, in Eldorado National Forest May 16, 17, 30, 31 in either Eldorado National Forest or Tahoe National Forest (pending conditions) Exact meetup location is provided one week before your class date. Join us every Friday for a fun and energetic evening of Scottish country dancing with the Berkeley Young Adult Scottish Country Dance group. Whether you're an experienced dancer or a beginner, all levels are welcome to participate and learn new moves. Ideally wear soft soled/moveable shoes. Kayak Camp Union Reservoir

Not so late-Sweeney Ridge (very easy 5 mi/700' gain)

Join us for an easy-moderate hike from San Bruno to Sweeney Ridge. We will start from Sneath Lane Trailhead (no fee required), walk up the paved route to the ridge. The route is mostly exposed and offers decent views of the Bay and City while being entirely paved. It is about 5 miles in total and has an elevation gain of about 700ft. Total moving time should be a little over 2 hours. Bring sun protection and ample water. Hike to Wildcat Peak,

Greetings all My next hike will be to Tilden and Wildcat Peak. Great panoramic view of the bay, Berkeley and the Reservoir. Bring your cameras Hike will be 3 to 3.5 miles in length. It is a loop. Elevation gain/loss will be about 700 feet. To get to Tilden take the 24 to Fish Ranch Road. North on Fish Ranch Rd to Grizzly Peak Bl, and turn right. Take Grizzly Peak to Canon Drive and Turn Right. Take Canon Drive to the Bottom and Turn Left. Go to the end which is a large parking lot and park there. Walk to the area of the environmental education center. I will be there with the sign. Trail starts there. Hope to see you there. Norman
