One of the Best Hikes in Australia! Classic Grand Canyon Circuit.

**If you don’t like this hike, you won’t like many others. It’s one of the best hikes anywhere in Australia!** **We will start at Blackheath Train Station (meet outside the train station on the Great Western Highway side) at 10am sharp (a train leaves Central at 7:28am from Platform 7 and arrives at Blackheath Station at 9:54am).** **From here we will follow the Popes Glen Track to Govett’s Leap Lookout, where you will see one of the most impressive views in the Blue Mountains.** **After a short break, we will follow the Cliff Top Track to the nearby waterfall with amazing views over the valley until we reach Evans Lookout where we will have lunch.** **After lunch, we will descend down the numerous steps into the cooler Grand Canyon.** **Following the Grand Canyon Track, we will pass waterfalls and tunnels (hopefully see some yabbies in the waterways), and then gradually climb through Neates Glen out to the carpark, about 200 metres higher than the canyon.** **After that, we follow the Braeside Trail up the road, finishing back at Blackheath Train Station.** **We will aim to get finish by 3.30pm, from where we can catch a train back to Katoomba or Sydney.** **\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*** **DISTANCE: About 16 km.** **GRADE: Medium, Grade 3.** **NOTE: No get-out points. The challenge is to climb short but tricky routes using balance, technique, and strength. It's a high-intensity exercise that strengthens many of the major muscles of the body, and in particular your core, back, shoulders, arms, hands, and grip. It can also help improve your sport climbing technique. Bouldering routes are set for beginners and up to advanced climbers at the gym. You may also stay few more days to explore the Blue Mountains.

✅ I’d recommend taking Friday, 2nd October off, chuck a sickie or POETS from work. Lots of things to do and see around the area. 🚙 I’m planning to arrive at the campground on Friday afternoon to get the campsite for the group on first come first served. 😉 🚗 Mt Victoria train station is about 10 minutes drive from the campground, Blackheath about 15 minutes drive, Lithgow about 40 minutes drive and Katoomba is about 25 minutes drive. ******************************************** ⛰️ Mount York Campground is about 6 km from Mount Victoria station, a natural site that at 1061 metres has commanding views over the western plains, many layers of Aboriginal and European heritage, several convict built roads (now walking tracks) and remnants of the old convict-built roads (1823-1829) can still be seen. 🏕️ The campground is a small to medium sized camping area, suitable for tents and caravans. A popular climbing area, awesome view at the lookouts, walking trails and historic roads.. 🌅 The campground is one of the best places to watch the sunset and stargazing. 🌠🌄🌌 🚻 FACILITIES: 🏕️ Camp near your vehicle, picnic area, drop toilets, limited fire pits, lookouts, walking, rock climbing and bike trails. 💦 NOTE- no tap water or showers, so please come well prepared. 🚿 I have basic shower tent that you’re welcome to use. ⚠️ FOR YOUR SAFETY & ENJOYMENT, PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW FULLY BEFORE YOU CLICK ‘Attend’! ******************************************** 🗓 DATE: Saturday, 3 October 2026. ⏰ MEETING TIME: 10.45am. 🚌 MEETING POINT: Scenic World Bus Stop. 🚌 Bus departs from the Bus Stop, in front of Carrington Hotel, Katoomba Street just few minutes walk from Katoomba station. 🚻 Meet the group outside public toilet block, opposite Scenic World. 🚌 END POINT: Echo Point Bus Stop for bus trip back to Katoomba station. 🏨 You may stay up for the long weekend in Katoomba, Leura, Blackheath, Wentworth Falls, Medlow Bath etc to explore the beautiful Blue Mountains. ******************************************** 🥾 DISTANCE: 10.5km - point to point. 🥾 GRADE: Moderate/slightly Hard on a steady pace, not snail pace! 💪🏽 Reasonable fitness recommended due to uneven rocky surfaces, ups and downs hills, creeks crossing, steep climbs with lots and lots of stairs. 💪🏽 Tracks expected to be wet, muddy and slippery at few sections. ******************************************** 📸 WHAT TO EXPECT: 🌈 Katoomba Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Blue Mountains. During and after rainfalls would be at its best with magnificent views at the lookouts along the trails from Giant Stairway, Three Sisters at Echo Point, Katoomba Cascades and Katoomba Falls. 🚌 Upon arrival at Katoomba station, we will hit the town centre to catch a bus in front of Carrington Hotel, Katoomba Street bus stop to Scenic World bus stop. 🚶We will start our exciting adventure from Scenic World down to Katoomba Falls stopping at few lookouts with awesome views across the valley. 🚶‍♀️After photo sessions and selfies at Katoomba Falls, we’ll walk up the stairs for BYO lunch break at one of the lookouts. 🚶We’ll continue our exciting adventure towards Katoomba Cascades along few other gorgeous lookouts. 🚶‍♀️After another photo sessions and selfies, we’ll continue towards Echo Point (Three Sisters) stopping for photos and selfies at another awesome lookouts. 🚌 Our adventure ends at Echo Point bus stop for a bus back to Katoomba station. ℹ️ NOTE - you’re welcome to spend longer time at Echo Point checking out the shops, a drinks or bite to eat etc. 🚌 Your’ll make your own way to Katoomba station at your own leisure. ******************************************** ⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ⚠️ 📝 TERMS & DISCLAIMER: ℹ️ Attending this event is voluntarily at your own risk. 👕 Comfortable outfit for the weather preferably hiking gear. Jeans or cotton t-shirt is not suitable for this walk.
🥾 Waterproof hiking boots, good grip walking shoes or trail runners highly recommended.
💦 At least 1.8L of water, Hydralyte or sports energy drinks.
🥪 Snacks and packed lunch.
🧢 Hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.
⛑ Basic First Aid kit - BandAids, bandages, antibacterial wipes, pain reliever and hand sanitiser.
