**The West Virginia Seneca Creek Backcountry is widely considered to be some of the most beautiful backpacking country in the Mid-Atlantic.** Our three-day event will feature base camping and a day hike. This is a 9 mile out and back hike along the Appalachian Trial with about 1,700 in elevation gain. We'll head south for about 4.5 miles to Whisky Hollow Shelter and have lunch. Then we'll head back the way we came. We'll be hiking at a 2-2.5 MPH. The driving time from there to the trailhead is about 45 minutes. Please arrive at the Park and Ride by 7:45 AM to form carpool so all cars can leave at 8:00. AM. Suggested carpool fee is $5. Hike leader will not be at the carpool location. Please arrive at the trailhead 15 minutes before 9:00 AM so we can get everyone signed in. We will start hiking promptly at 9:00 AM. There are port-a-pottys at the trailhead. PLEASE NOTE: Neither the Club nor the hike leaders are responsible for coordinating transportation to/from the trailhead. During this two-day backpacking trip we will experience a small section of the famous Appalachian Trail. This segment of the A.T. will take us by some nice overlooks and should be especially beautiful during the fall. **This** **trip includes significant elevation gain and as such is NOT recommended for first-time or inexperienced backpackers.** We will meet at the Vienna South Metro Station at 8:00 AM and carpool to the trailhead. Drive time is about 3 hours. Please post a comment below if you are willing to drive. Along the way we will pass by Little Rocky Row, Big Rocky Row, Bluff Mountain, and Punchbowl Mountain. Once we reach the shelter we will set up camp and enjoy the evening. **Day 2:** During the second day we will begin our return trip on the Appalachian Trail but will make a left turn near Saltlog Gap and follow that trail by Peavine Mountain. Once we reach Forest Road 36 we will follow it all the way back to our cars.
