We will be writing Christmas cards with warm festive messages to elderly people in residential care homes. Many people in residential care do not receive regular visits and Christmas can be particularly isolating. This small act of kindness can help them to not feel as lonely during the Christmas period. Join us, and send some smiles across the miles to those who need them most. I’ll provide the Xmas cards and all the writing material you will need to brighten someone’s day. All you need to bring is your wonderful self! If it’s your first time, don't worry, I’ll have guidelines and inspirational suggestions. \*\*\* POLITE REMINDERS\*\*\* * If you click to attend but then can’t come, PLEASE change your RSVP to say you are no longer attending. Everyone is very welcome to join us for tea and cake and the church service, which runs every Sunday. Hope you can join us! *PLEASE NOTE that this is NOT the English class.* The English class runs during the term: and classes are posted as separate Meetup events. Please sign up for the classes on the relevant Meetup. The classes run from 2:30 pm - 3:45pm. --- What happens in this event? Come and experience a Traditional English Church Service with Live Music and Singing. Enjoy Tea and coffee after the Church service. You will meet a friendly local community. Make friends from all over the world, people from diverse backgrounds and stages of life. What happens during the church service? You do not need to do anything, apart from sit, listen and observe. It is a great way to improve your listening skills and also to learn about what Christianity says about life and why we think it might be relevant. You will listen to live singing, prayer, a Bible reading, and hear a talk from someone explaining it. You are welcome to join at any time and leave before the service finishes if you do not feel you can stay. You will have time after the service to talk to us either about what you have heard or just anything you'd like to talk about, over a cup of tea or coffee and there is usually also a lot of cakes or snacks! Harms mapping: What's the worst that could happen?

Most teams are good at asking can we build it? Far fewer have a practice for asking what happens if we do? Harms mapping is that practice. It's a structured way of finding the ways a product, service or experience could hurt people, early enough that you can still do something about it. Not a compliance exercise, and not a feel-good one either. Teams that do it well find opportunities others miss, avoid expensive rework, and build things people actually trust. This is a working session, not a talk. UX for Change Fellow, Christina Lai, will introduce the method, and then we'll use it on something real. **The real thing:** East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity turning a 14-acre former depot on Lea Bridge Road into a biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. They're also our partners on the UX for Change Fellowship. They do something remarkable: they invite people to help shape something that doesn't exist yet. Children, residents, people whose views on green space have never been asked for. We'll map the harms in that invitation: what it promises, who it reaches, who it leaves out, and what it costs the people who say yes. **Why this matters beyond ELWP:** The EU AI Act contains two duties worth knowing about. One demands to tell people when they're talking to a machine and mark AI-generated content. The other requires you to work out who could be harmed and how, before you deploy, and say what you'll do when it happens. On 2 August, the first became enforceable. The second isn't due until December 2027. You don't have to wait for the law to ask the questions. That's what this evening is about. **What you'll leave with:** Not mastery. One evening doesn't make a practice, and we're not going to pretend it does. You'll leave having done it once, with a story about what surfaced that's worth telling your team next day, and with a few questions that are hard to unsee once you've asked them of your own work. Who it's for: designers, researchers, product people, engineers, anyone who makes decisions about what gets built. Hi Balancers, We believe community is about more than meeting new people. It's also about showing up for those who need support. As part of our ongoing partnership with Refugee Community Kitchen, we're inviting you to join us for a different kind of volunteering session. This time, we’re joining **Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK)** at their Goodge Street service to provide essential clothing to people who need it. 👕 **HOW IT WORKS** We’ll meet at **6:00 PM in front of the Dominion Theatre**. From there, we’ll cross the road to Primark and split into small groups. Each group will be given a few essential clothing items to find and buy. Once we’re done, we’ll walk about **5 minutes to Goodge Street**, join the RCK service and distribute the clothing while their team serves food. ♻️ **HAVE CLOTHES YOU DON’T USE ANYMORE?** You’re also welcome to bring a **small amount of clean, good-condition clothing** that you no longer use and would be happy to donate. Please only bring a few items, as we have **very limited storage space** and may not be able to take large bags of clothes. **🍻 AFTER VOLUNTEERING** For anyone who wants to stick around, we’ll head to a nearby pub for a drink after the session.
