*This trip is open to those who have volunteered in 2026 during our public kayaking days. Space is limited - once you join, you will be placed on a waitlist until the host reviews your qualifications.* **Pier i: Night Intermediate Volunteer Trip - 6 miles total**🌃 Let's paddle to Manhattan and land at “Choo Choo Beach”, a small, very rocky landing spot near Pier I. There is a waterfront cafe with outdoor tables where we can grab a (very!) quick bite. This landing is tricky. Plastic boats are encouraged. If you choose a non-plastic boat, be prepared to jump out into waist deep water. Wear sturdy water shoes - you will be climbing on wet rocks carrying your boat. **PREREQUISITES TO RSVP:** 1. Volunteered **AT LEAST** 2 shifts in 2026 during our free kayaking days AND 2. Completed at least 2 trainings in 2026 and show full control of your craft AND 3. Completed at least 2 novice trips in which you found it easy to stay toward the front of the group AND 4. You completed our time trial course in under 19 minutes AND 5. You are comfortable paddling at night **COME PREPARED:** * At least one all-around waterproof white light * A PFD light * Appropriate clothing for water and air temperature. No cotton * Water * Food if you plan to picnic or cash/credit to buy food there. * Sunscreen, hat * Change of clothes * Anything else you may need to spend 2+ hours paddling! **CRAFT:** * Sit on top - No * Sea Kayak - Only if completed a wet exit * OC1/OC2 - Not allowed due to landing * SUP - Only if completed a 6+ mile trip with our boathouse * Surfski - Not allowed due to landing **TIMELINE:** 5:30 PM Arrive at the boathouse **6:00 PM Safety briefing hard cutoff to arrive. Whoever does not make it by this time will not be able to join** 6:15 PM Move boats to the beach 6:30 PM Depart from HCCB 7:15 PM Arrive at Pier i 7:30 PM Land and stash boats 60 minutes to eat and relax 8:30 PM Meet at boats, prepare gear, return safety briefing 8:45 PM Depart from Pier i 9:30 PM Arrive at HCCB 9:45 PM Clean and put away equipment 10:30 PM Trip ends ***Sunset 8:29 PM*** ***Civil twilight 9:04 PM*** **[NOAA Current Predictions at Pier 92](https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaacurrents/predictions.html?id=NYH1928_12&begin_date=2026-07-09&date-range=daily&date-timeUnits=am%2Fpm&date-interval=MAX_SLACK&units=english&time-zone=LST_LDT&threshold=leEq&thresholdValue=)** 2026-07-9 4:32 PM flood 2.46 2026-07-9 7:46 PM slack - 2026-07-9 11:29 PM ebb -2.72 *** HCCB is completely volunteer run. Our guides generously take time out of their busy schedules to run trips and trainings. If you RSVP yes, please consider this a **commitment to attend**. If you cancel at the last minute or no-show, you take a spot away from someone else or prevent a trip/training from happening. We understand that life happens, so if you must cancel close to the start of a trip or training, please change your RSVP to “Not Going” and message the host(s) or comment in the chat. Here are our guidelines about cancelations and no-shows: \* *For a trip, please cancel prior to 8:00 PM the day before*\* the trip. \* *For a training, please cancel at least 6 hours*\* before the training. \* If you do not cancel before the cancelation cutoff time, you will be marked as a no-show. \* Hosts reserve the right to deprioritize you on waitlists after the second no-show of the year.
