Seaside of Chichester Harbour- hiking in a postcard and have a SWIM
Sat, Sep 19, 7:00 AMBeach, beach, let,s go to the beach! A gorgeous sandy beach in a gorgeous area of natural outstanding beauty and one of my hikers favourites! We will start the hike along the canal until we reach the marina, then along the stunning estuary which could look like paradise until we reach one of Britain's most beautiful sandy beach! West Wittering... Join me on this beautiful hike and visit both Chichester Harbour and town, a traditional English seaside town with sandy beaches, dunes and one of the most stunning nature reserves. We will visit the old town and cathedral and hike the seaside and nature reserve South of this historical place. CHICHESTER HARBOUR is a large natural harbour to the south west of the city of Chichester on the Solent. Talking about sunset, you cannot imagine the beauty of this red sky over West Wittering Sandy beach and the Solent, just mind blowing. If you have to choose a hike this year, this is the one, it has become a favourite for my hikers and is pretty flat, although quite long. It is one of four natural harbours in that area of the coastline, the others being Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour and Pagham Harbour The massive stretch of tidal flats and saltings are of outstanding ecological significance. Very large populations of wildfowl and waders use the mudflats feeding on the rich plant life and the huge populations of intertidal invertebrates. More than 7,500 Brent geese overwinter on the intertidal mud-land and adjacent farmland and around 55,000 birds reside in or visit the Harbour throughout the year. Really, those landscapes are quite unique, you will be surrounded by water and birds and the sunset is exceptional. CHICHESTER, a cathedral town in West Sussex,it is the only city in West Sussex and its county town. It was a Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement and a major market town from those times through Norman and medieval times to the present day. It is the seat of the Church of England Diocese of Chichester, with a 12th-century cathedral. Thames Foreshore Visit - Greenwich! (Free for Full Members)
Sun, Sep 13, 8:00 AMRunning through the heart of London; the River Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed. Come along on Sunday 13th September to explore its history! **About the foreshore** I will be your guide as we will be going down to the Thames foreshore at low tide, where we will have about 1h 30mins to have a look around for objects before the tide comes in. I will tell you more about foreshore, the industry in the area and will be on hand to identify and date objects you find. Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore after being washed in on the tide (we are not allowed to dig or scrape the foreshore surface). You will find everything from bits of pottery, clay pipes, bottles, animal bones to ship items. Most of the things we find are from the Medieval to the Victorian period or you might be lucky and find something Roman or older. **Footwear** The foreshore is very stony and sometimes muddy, so please wear sensible shoes (preferably walking boots/shoes or wellington boots). Plastic gloves and bags will be provided. We will be finished by about 11:00am. **The Thames Foreshore is private land, so before we go down, I have to give everyone a short talk on health & safety on the foreshore. As per the conditions of my group permit, you will need to be present for this, if you are late, I won't be able to accommodate you.** **Cost** This is for Full Members of the group only and will be free. **Become a Full Member** To become a Full Member (£14 a year), either: \- Pay cash at an event \- Pay via Bank Transfer \(TSB Bank plc\, Sort code: 77\-66\-65\, Account no: 00030809\, Account name: Cultureseekers) \- Pay via credit card on the day or in advance \([https://pay.sumup.com/b2c/QLAX8AUI](https://pay.sumup.com/b2c/QLAX8AUI)) \- go to PayPal \- [https://www.paypal.com/uk/](https://www.paypal.com/uk/), then click on 'Pay & Get Paid‘, then click on 'Send Money’, put in the email address: [[[general@cultureseekers.org](mailto:general@cultureseekers.org)]([mailto:general@cultureseekers.org](http://mailto:general@cultureseekers.org))]([mailto:general@cultureseekers.org](http://mailto:general@cultureseekers.org)) in the 'Send Money' box, then 'Next' and then enter the amount to pay.
