🍡 Pounding & Grilling: Authentic Japanese Mochitsuki & BBQ! 🪵🔥 Hey everyone! 👋 THIS IS THE OFFICIALLY FIRST EVENT, COULD YOU MAKE HISTORY WITH ME? Have you ever seen those amazing viral videos of traditional master mochi pounders in Japan? The high energy, the rhythmic shouting, and that unbelievably soft, stretchy rice dough? I am incredibly passionate about sharing real Japanese food culture and traditions, and I realized something... almost nobody gets to experience authentic Mochitsuki (traditional live mochi pounding) here in Sydney! So, I’m throwing a casual community BBQ and picnic, and I am bringing along a handcrafted, wood mortar (usu) and wooden mallets (kine) so we can do the real thing together! It's time for another Sydney Kitchen Catchup lunch adventure! This time we'll be exploring the flavours of Somalia and Ethiopia with a special lunch at Salam Mandi. The feature dishes will be Camel Mandi (camel with spiced rice) and Camel Soup, alongside a selection of other delicious Somali and Ethiopian dishes to share and enjoy together. Somali and Ethiopian food cultures have some deliciously unique flavours and approaches, and I'm looking forward to sharing a little of that experience with you during the meal. And while I've enjoyed meals at Salam Mandi before and can vouch for both the delicious food and the warm, friendly service, the camel dishes will be a new experience for me as well. So this is one we'll be discovering together.
