Our aim is to provide a supportive community for speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy and horror etc) writers at all levels, offering a platform for networking, dedicated writing time, craft discussions, and publication tips. Whether you're just starting or an established wordsmith, join us on the 4th Wednesday of each month at Chatswood Library. **[RSVP through the library](https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/wednesday-speculative-writing-night-tickets-813545274817)** *In addition to RSVPing here on Meetup, please register at the link above so we can keep track of numbers as we are promoting across different platforms.* **Schedule:** **5:30 - 6:00 pm:** Introductions and casual chat **6:00 - 7:30 pm:** 'Focus & Write' session **7:30 - 8:30 pm:** Continue writing, or socialise and share your progress **What to bring:** Your work-in-progress, whether on screen or paper. Connect with fellow writers, explore the speculative fiction realm, and let your imagination soar at our regular writing meetups. **[How to get there](https://libraries.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Locations-and-Hours/Chatswood-Library)** **Public transport**: Chatswood Library is located in The Concourse, 350m from major Chatswood transportation hubs, including Chatswood train station and Chatswood bus interchange. **Parking**: Parking is available at The Concourse car park accessible on Ferguson Lane via Archer St ONLY. Parking rates can be found [here](https://www.theconcourse.com.au/visit/parking/). The library has lift access from The Concourse car park and from The Concourse, ground and upper levels. Parking is also available at Chatswood Chase adjacent to The Concourse on the corner of Archer St and Victoria Ave. The first 3 hours parking are free. **Cycle**: Bicycle parking is available at library entrance. **Accessibility** For participants requiring stair-free access, this is available through the Ferguson Lane entrance through the parking garage. Ride shares or taxis should be directed to drop off at that location. If further assistance is needed please let the Meetup coordinators know in advance and we will do our best to assist. Please be advised that access from Victoria Ave does consist of a significant flight of steps up into the Concourse area. **Our meeting room** We are in the **Creator Space**, straight down the main aisle from the front desk, though the sign may be obscured by books. If you are unable to locate the Creator Space, ask the staff at the front desk for its location; they are expecting us. Do note a 'yes' RSVP on Meetup does not confirm your place, **[please RSVP through the library](https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/wednesday-speculative-writing-night-tickets-813545274817)** so they can set out enough places for us on the night. In Person : Yum Cha Lunch - Burwood, Sun 31 May, 10:20am

Sun, May 31, 12:20 AM
From Kitchen Catchup
4.9

It's been too long since we last went out for yum cha together, so throwing another yum cha session out there !! For those who like to keep the conversation going afterwards, some of us often like to sit down after the meal while enjoying a coffee nearby and/or continuing our foodie adventure in fabulous Burwood. So feel free to stick around with us if you'd like then too. This part is completely optional of course. Rsvp to lock in your spot at the yum cha table. Royal Treasure Seafood Restaurant Emerald Square (2nd Floor) 31/27 Belmore St · Burwood, NSW Meeting time : 10:20 am And as many Sydney Kitchen Catchup members often tell me when we get together over a shared meal or event, we also love having a space where we can chat with like-minded kitchen enthusiasts about food, cooking and/or baking non-stop for a whole hour or so. And so regardless of whether you're just starting out or are a professional chef, there is always something interesting to learn from the breadth of experience across this amazing group of people! Looking forward to sharing another delicious meal with you all ! Cheers, Natia -- Kitchen Catchup Code of Conduct The Kitchen Catchup community is a space for all members of all skill levels to, both in person and online, \>\> safely discuss\, cook and eat all types of foods from around the world\, \>\> be treated fairly\, equally and with respect by all members\, and \>\> socialise & learn in an environment free from all forms of harassment and discrimination\. If you do not care for a certain ingredient, dish, cuisine or cooking technique (we all have these!), there is no issue with mentioning that you don't like it; however, please avoid negative reactions (verbal or otherwise) that could make other members in the group feel uncomfortable. Given the limited number of spots available at our events and as we often have a waitlist, we also have a zero-tolerance policy for no-shows. If you can't make it any longer to an event, update your RSVP so that someone else doesn't miss out. Thanks for helping to keep our community amazing!

Refugee Chef Dinner Banquet - FULLY BOOKED, WAITLIST ONLY

Refugee Chef Dinner Banquet - FULLY BOOKED, WAITLIST ONLY

Wed, Jun 3, 8:30 AM
From Switched On Sydney Socials by Local Sauce (all ages welcome)
4.7

**Enjoy a delicious dinner banquet with a different cuisine each time and support refugees!** CURRENT CONFIRMED ATTENDEES (incl. outside Meetup): 16 Join a small group and enjoy a tasty three-course banquet at a bohemian cafe, Parliament on King. You’ll sample food from the homelands of asylum seekers and refugees (think Burmese/Rohingya, Iraqi, Iranian, Palestinian, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Ugandan and more). Each dinner banquet has a different chef and menu, and we often keep it a surprise until the night. Your hosts will invite the chefs to share their stories, and you’re more than welcome to ask them questions about the food they’ve prepared and their stories of how they have come to Australia. The dinner is hosted in the cosy front room of Parliament on King. Parliament on King’s mission is simple: to make lovely food. But in doing this, they address the barriers to economic, social and cultural participation that asylum seekers, refugees and recent arrivals to Australia face, by providing real work, training and community. All proceeds from this event go towards funding Parliament on King’s important work. **What we provide:** * 3-course meal (dependent on the menu) * Exclusive use of an intimate venue * Licensed venue with a range of alcohol and drinks available for purchase * Photos and further resources will be shared after the experience **Price:** $80 Check out photos of previous Refugee Chef Dinners and our other activities on Instagram at [@localsaucetours](http://localsaucetours/) [See reviews from past dinners on our website.](https://localsaucetours.com.au/tour/refugee-chef-dinner-banquet/) **Please note:** Register here and also book on our website (https://localsaucetours.com.au/tour/refugee-chef-dinner-banquet/). You must book on our website before attending, we cannot take payment on the night.
