Volleyball Competition, Dinner & Drinks
Sat, Jun 6, 5:30 AM💰**Competition** If we have enough people we will run the competition. Join Whatsapp Group: (If failed to join on whatsapp, DM me your number I can add you myself) [https://chat.whatsapp.com/H5ja11KunFkIKFcpRKEVbP](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H5ja11KunFkIKFcpRKEVbP) ℹ️ **Game plan** **Competition 3:30pm - 7:30pm** **Dinner 7:45pm** The idea is to have fun and win a price $$ in a competition. We will be having a competition and 1 team will win a price at the end and the winning price is 70% of the total entry fees. 30% percent will go towards our group budget. You will be in a team of 5 players or less or more. Choosing a team - randomly counted by the organiser, if your number is #2 then you will be playing with a player who is counted as #2 and compete with other team. If your team wins then you will compete with the other winning team. Will play a game from last winning team until the end of competition. Losing team will not have a chance to win. We cannot always determine how many people attending, some will arrive early and some will arrive a little later. Late comers will still have chance to be in the competition. But you must arrive **15 mins early** before the game. Depending on how many players in a last winning team. If your team have won the final game and no late comers to challenge you during the competition period. Your team automatically win the price. We want to make sure every attendees gets a chance to play the competition. If you are late, you will be registered to be in a team and you will be competing with the people who already won the game to win the price and must win higher points than the winning team. If the team your competing against has already won once or your late arrival team must won more than the other team your competing with. To make it fair, new team points is 0 until your team has won and gain a point. So if you have been playing and your team has won a game of first to 21 scores during the battle your team gets a point of 1. Your team point goes up every time your team wins. **📃 Game Rules** \- Score first to 21 points \- No kicking or head butting the ball\, will make the other team score \- Serving the ball must be outside the line \- No touching the net at all times \- No blocking a serve \- Can only pass the ball twice\, third must hit the ball towards the opposing team \(total 3 hits\) if 4 hits will make the other team score \- When the ball drops outside the court line is out\, on the line or in the court line is in \- 1 team reached match point to win \- if both teams reached match point\, score two more points to win \- if your team lost once your team is out of competition and you are not allowed to join other team to compete or form a new team **📃 Winning Cases** **Case #1** \- last winning team of 6 people\, will win the price at the end if only no more late comers to challenge your team\. **Case #2** \- last winning team of 5 people\. automatically win the price if only no more late comers to challenge your team\. **Case #3** \- last winning of 4 people will win the price at the end if only no more late comers to challenge your team\. **Case #4** \- last winning team of 3 people\, So 3 people automatically win the price if only no more late comers to challenge your team\. **$30 competition fee cash or payID** 30% goes to meetup cost, equipment and game management Our attendees numbers usually around 30 to 100+ people RSVP per event. Last competition had 40+ people. So if we have 40 attendees, each pay $30 competition fee that's a total fees of $1,200 dollars. Not always the case! 70% of that fees is the winning price and 30% set aside for game management, equipment and meetup cost. So $1,200\*0.70= $840 is the total winning price divided by your team players and will be paid in cash or payID after the game. The other 30% is to cover the meetup cost, equipment, nets, balls, photos, videos and music and further improve and manage our events. Losing teams is out of competition, and can continue to play for social games. **Sydney Beach Events/We are NOT liable for any injuries, health issues or damage costs. You are playing at your own risk.** **First aid kit will be available if needed.** **👜 What to bring with you** **Lots of Water**, **sunscreen**, **SHOES**, **ID** or **passport** to enter to any venue in Coogee. 🏖️ **What we will have during this event** 3 Gazebos for sun cover, JBL speaker, nets & balls, and some water. 🛡️ **Follow Rules** **1.** Respect each other's boundaries, race, backgrounds and beliefs. **2.** You must avoid any conflict, arguments or any potential confrontation. **3.** You must remain friendly & respectful to ALL players & event host. **4.** You must listen to host game plan & directions. please ask questions if you must. **5.** Avoid any cancellation, or if you must, notify the host 1+ day prior to the event. **6.** All **RSPVed members must attend the event.** **7.** We promote a positive and fun environment, you must remain respectful and friendly to all the members in the group. The Trolley Problem: Would you kill the fat man?
Mon, Jun 1, 8:30 AMChances are you've heard some version of this before, but it's worth revisiting. A runaway trolley is hurtling down the tracks toward five unsuspecting workers. You're standing on a footbridge above, and beside you is a large man. If you push him onto the tracks, his body will stop the trolley. He will die—but the five will live. Would you do it? What if pushing him saved a hundred people? This is no idle riddle. Our responses to this famous thought experiment (and many variants of it) reveal how we weigh consequences, rights, and intentions, and how our moral intuitions can clash with our moral reasoning. Moreover, these choices matter in the real world. From foreseeable risks to civilian lives in military action, to public‑health decisions about allocating scarce vaccines, to autonomous vehicles deciding who to save in a crash, trolley problems offer an accessible way to confront the hard edges of moral decision‑making in the modern age. Let's dive in. ***Primary Reading: [An Introduction to the Trolley Problem](https://1drv.ms/b/c/adb4f7488b2eef0a/IQCJWblmfROdQ57-BP0B6yCtAarIwZk1SPyFG157nZiDWN0?e=hjP4jO)*** (document prepared for this discussion) ***(Optional) Book: Would You Kill the Fat Man? The Trolley Problem and What Your Answer Tells Us About Right and Wrong (2014) by David Edmonds*** For this meetup, we’ve prepared a 40-page guide that introduces the Trolley Problem, its philosophical significance, and what neuroscience has learned from using it to study moral decision-making. The guide includes sixteen scenarios, each probing different aspects of moral thinking: How do we weigh consequences against rights? Does intention matter more than outcomes? Do personal relationships override impartial calculation? When is it acceptable to use one person to save many? These scenarios reveal the complexity of our moral intuitions and will form the heart of our discussion. Hopefully the prepared guide will leave you wanting more. If so, David Edmonds' *Would You Kill the Fat Man?* is a wonderful next step. Edmonds traces the fascinating history of the Trolley Problem, examines philosophers who've wrestled with it, and explains the competing moral frameworks with clarity and wit. It's highly readable and brings real depth to these abstract dilemmas—but it's entirely optional. The guide has everything you need for our discussion. As always, we strongly encourage you to do the reading before attending. This will enrich both your experience and our collective discussion. We’ve also put links below on further resources on the topic. So join us for a drink (and optional meal) at 6:30pm on Monday, 1st June, on the 2nd floor of the Keg & Brew Hotel in Surrey Hills (i.e. up two flights of stairs). The venue is conveniently located near Central Station and the Light Rail. We look forward to seeing you there! P.S. Please adjust your RSVP if you have indicated that you will come but are no longer able to do so. This is courteous to other people if there is a waitlist. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- These are just optional links to consider. George's River Sea to Source 1 - Kurnell to Woolooware
Sat, May 30, 10:02 PMUpdate: Sorry all, I have to shift this by one week, as I have another commitment. This also resets our timing for some other members. We are starting a new series (more GNW to come - but later) The plan over winter is to walk all of the Georges River from Sea (Botany Bay) to Source (somewhere near Appin in Sydney's south) All up about 96 km, split into stages. First stage is Captain Cook's landing place to Woolooware station You get some history, some urban walks, and definitely good company. This is flat - so 16km is OK for this group. We are deliberately avoiding a boring walk- instead going past Cronulla Beach. We have allowed a generous 4 hours, and parking at the end allows some car-pooling options to get to the start or finish. Comment if you are looking for these options. **Public Transport** From Cronulla Station Route 987 at 7:45am gets to the start which is labelled **Prince Charles Pde before Captain Cook Drive**. Some of us will be on the bus, so look for the walkers/hikers if you have not joined before. Train from Central to Cronulla is Platform 25 at 6:22am - the next one "cuts it too fine". **Driving** To be updated. I will park near Woolooware station and (hopefully?) car-pool to the start, then car-pool back. Message me, or I will walk to get the bus I have mentioned.
