Mexico Volcanoes guided climb

This is mountaineering, not just hiking. Over about a week we'll climb La Malinche (14,636′), Izztacihuatl (17,159′), and Pico de Orizaba (18,491′). We'll use a guide for all three. The date is open but mid-January would probably be a good time. The total cost is probably going to be $2k to $3k each. We'll find a guiding company, split the cost, and you'd take care of your own flight/hotel/food/gear/etc costs. You need to be very fit for this, but I don't think prior crampon/ice axe experience is necessary. You should have successfully acclimatized to 14k' before (we'll acclimatize on this trip, but spending some time close to 10k' before the trip would be a good idea.) You have to be solid and responsible since this is in a foreign country.

Guided rock climbing near Idyllwild

I'm going to hire a guide to do a Tahquitz climb (near Idyllwild & Mt San Jacinto). This is multipitch trad and 5.4-ish. The date is open but it looks like the weather will be OK in mid-Oct. To be clear, this is a roped climb, like that shown in the photo. And, it's **multipitch trad**, which is a different beast than toprope climbs. While you don't really need experience, it'd really help since both likely routes have exposure in parts. As in, if you look down there's nothing below you for a few hundred feet. You probably won't have to clean or belay, but it'd be a good idea to practice a figure 8. It'd be an even better idea to go to a climbing gym, buy a day pass, and tell them what you hope to do. The routes I'm looking at are The Trough and White Maiden's Walkway. The exposure on the latter is apparently greater. I'll leave it up to the guide to choose which is most appropriate for the group. The guiding service will probably be Vertical Adventures and the cost for just me is $495. If I can find one other person it's $295 each and two others makes it $245 each. Guess which option I prefer. Whichever service we go with it will be with an AMGA-certified guide; they'll be the ones placing the protection, not me. I'll probably clean and belay the guide. You'll probably be belayed by the guide. You'll need a helmet, a harness, and probably climbing shoes. The service can rent all of those to you. If you don't already know what **multipitch trad** is (yes, I said it again), please watch a video of what that means. Like I said, it's a good bit more involved than toprope. Anyone who signs up has to join the waitlist and to get off it you have to leave a comment (or send me a DM) detailing your climbing experience or, if you have none of that, why you think you won't freak out with exposure. Note also that I'm slowly getting over a lower back nerve issue caused by bulging disks. It might cause pain for this event but I should be able to do it unless that suddenly gets worse. There's apparently a steep approach hike so prep for that. However, going to JTree instead is an option either if the weather turns bad or my disks explode.

Then cozy up with your new Explorer Chick besties at an eco-lodge within the boundaries of Dana Nature Reserve. **JORDAN TRAIL HIKING AND GLAMPING** The following morning, you’ll wake to trek 5 miles along one of the most scenic sections of the Jordan Trail to arrive at Little Petra. En route, you’ll be able to see into Israel and learn about the biblical significance of the trail by our local guide. That night, you’ll relax under the stars at an authentic Bedouin camp in a comfortable glamping site with a bed and mattress. **PETRA TOUR** The next day, you’ll journey to Petra on foot over the course of 9 miles. The hike might seem long, but you’ll be rewarded by entering Petra through a back entrance before exploring the narrow slot canyons and caves deep within the vast UNESCO World Heritage site. On your second day in Petra, our local guide will take us on a super-secret hike with stunning views known only by the locals (Shhhhh! Don’t tell the tourists!). **WADI RUM DESERT TOUR AND BEDOUIN CAMP** After our time in Petra, we’ll venture to Wadi Rum, the Arabic word for “dry river bed” aka where Matt Damon grew his doo-doo potatoes in The Martian. The Wadi Rum desert is unlike anything else on Earth! Protected by the National Park, this area is devoid of man-made architecture and influence. Instead, the nomadic Bedouin people thrive on what the Earth provides and call Wadi Rum their home. Lucky for us, the Bedouins will welcome us into their communities and share some of their favorite hiking trails. Spend two nights under more breathtaking stars in another authentic Bedouin camp. Your home will be a raised canvas tent complete with a bed and local decor. **JEEP SAFARI TOUR TO MOUNTAIN ROCK SCRAMBLE AND DESERT CAMEL RIDE** While in Wadi Rum, board a Jeep to safari to Burdah Mountain and take on a challenging 3-4 hour scramble to reach the famous Burdah Rock Bridge. If you’re feeling intrepid, inch out to the middle of an arch that stands 900 feet high. Catch your last sunset in Wadi Rum on the back of a camel as you enjoy a bucket-list desert experience. **DEAD SEA SWIM AND JORDANIAN COOKING CLASS** On your final full day, we’ll journey to the lowest place on the earth—The Dead Sea. After a few nights on the strip, enjoy rock climbing, kayaking and overnight camping in Black Canyon. From a 4-star hotel to a billion-star sky, experience the full scope of glam and grit in WILD Las Vegas. Your vacation begins at a high-end Downtown Las Vegas Hotel and Casino where you’ll enjoy all the food, drink, chip-tossing, and people-watching Fremont Street has to offer. We’ll build in time to escape the crowds to spend a full day rock climbing and exploring the vertical sandstone walls of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. So long, Las Vegas! Kayak adventure, here we come! On day three, we’ll dry bag our belongings (peace out, heels ✌) as we prepare for a camping overnight along the Lower Colorado River. Your 12-mile paddling journey launches at the base of Hoover Dam through the Black Canyon on the Lower Colorado River. That’s right: We’ll gain special access to launch kayaks below the towering Hoover Damn. Talk about feeling small! The water will be moving and flat; a peaceful pace for anyone who might have overindulged the night prior and perfect for a relaxing trip. Along the way, we’ll make frequent stops to areas accessible only by boat—natural hot springs, slot canyons, a natural sauna, Emerald Cave with gorgeous green water, historical sites, even ruins! We’ll spend our final night resting up camped out on the shore, snort-laughing under the stars.
