Afternoon Picnic at South Mountain

Join us for an afternoon picnic at South Mountain - good food and good company among the trees and various other greenery :) We are potlucking snacks, so please bring snack to share or snacks you know you'll eat. Ideas include chips, salsa/guac, crackers, drinks, desserts, especially stuff that's easy to share and sample. We recommend that you bring something to sit on, as we can't guarantee that we can snag enough picnic tables for everyone (we aren't renting a pavilion for this event to keep it free). If you want to bring your children or pups, this would be a good event to do so! Parking: this one is on the northeast side of reservation - Turtle Back Rock Picnic Area. **Welcome! We are planning a train-accessible hike on Sept 19th. The plan is to take the Metro North from Grand Central around 10AM and head to Beacon in the Hudson Valley. If you want to drive, feel free to meet us at the trailhead. Meet at: Tulip Springs, 0.4 miles north of the light at S. Orange Ave. and Cherry Lane. Make an immediate right turn after exiting Cherry Lane. Hiking - Long Path Loop from Lake Skannatati

Having covered the southernmost section of this 350+ mile trail (Upper Manhattan to the entrance to Harriman State Park), we're now working on the sections within Harriman. Whenever possible these will be loop hikes, because life is so much easier when we loop! **Hike #2:** Lake Skannatati/Flight 6231 Memorial: We'll meet at the Lake Skannatati boat launch at 9:00 AM for a "lollipop" loop that includes several woods roads and the Beech Trail. When we reach the Flight 6231 Memorial we'll head back to "start" via the Long Path, passing St. John's Church along the way.
