**Her Sound in Bloom** is an in-person networking event in London for women aged 35 and over who work in music or are finding their way into it. **We’re not ageing, darling — we’re blooming! 🌸** Your voice deserves to be heard, and your creativity deserves space to grow. Organised and led by **singer-songwriter and entrepreneur Freya Alley**, 'Her Sound in Bloom' brings together women aged 35 and over to meet, share experiences and support each other in music. Whether you’re an established artist, returning after a break or finding the courage to begin, you are welcome here. **Our first gathering is on 9 November, Monday** under the New Moon — a beautiful moment for new beginnings, friendships and projects! **🌙** **Dress up, put your lipstick on and join us in full bloom for a beautiful evening in London — just because we deserve it! 💋** Join us for relaxed networking and honest conversations about creativity, confidence, ambition and pursuing music on your own terms. Meet potential collaborators, make new friends and connect with women who understand the journey. **I have big dreams and plans for us!** This first event is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see the friendships, collaborations and opportunities we’ll create together. Let’s start a ***movement*** and break the stereotypes about age and music. There’s no “too late” to create, take the stage or chase your dreams, and together, we’ll make room for more women to be seen, heard and celebrated. TRADITIONAL AND MODERN LAMPSHADE MAKING

Even if you have never stitched in your life, Ian McQueen’s relaxed and friendly style of tuition will have you wishing you had taken to the sewing needle years ago. Ian is a City and Guilds trained craftsman who makes elegant traditionally built fine lampshades for interior designers and high-end shops. Some are sophisticated – lined with silk so light glows through, some are dramatic statements bejewelled with vintage adornments. All are hand stitched -not glued – so that they retain their shape and structure to give years of pleasure. During a one-day workshop, you will select a wire frame and transform it into a bespoke home accessory for all to admire in your home. We use a 10-inch diameter Drum shade and a 12-inch diameter straight Empire frame. You can select fabric from a few fabrics we have available but we recommend you bring along 1 metre of fabric to match your colour scheme. If you want to walk on the wild side, bring any fabric you want to give new life. Students have even transformed an old pair of jeans into a striking shade. The process is fun but meticulous so there is sometimes only the time to complete the stitching on one lampshade in a day. This will depend on your speed. What you will take home is some of the historical skills used by milliners and upholders. (They were the stitchers who hung the tapestries on medieval walls.) As well as the know-how and route to suppliers you will learn how to make your own lampshades at home. The tutor can demonstrate how to make simple trims in the same fabric. No special machinery is required and only a little help from a simple sewing machine is available at the centre. It does not matter if you have never used a machine before. Choices- 1. Make a firm drum lampshade. Using a supplied frame, you will learn how to stitch reinforced fabric onto a frame using a traditional stitch. 2. A pleated or unpleated lampshade. The lampshade fabric is stretched or folded directly onto a ‘Straight Empire’ frame. The lampshade can then be lined with a contrasting fabric. The use of all tools and materials are included. We have additional assorted frames for sale, as well as a small range of vintage trimmings for you to make more lampshades at home. Suitable for beginners. Enjoyable for all.

If the idea of carving a spoon appeals to you, but setting out into a muddy wood and starting your learning by wielding an axe seems somewhat daunting, join us for a one-day course that will bypass all that and yet give you the immense satisfaction of watching a fully-fledged spoon emerge from your handiwork. Each spoon will be carved using seasoned wood and we will use Lime – a light, silky smooth and close-grained wood- used by great master carvers in St Paul Cathedral and stately homes. In one day, you will learn how to create a spoon from Lime wood- a traditional seasoned hardwood that holds detail and is a pleasure to carve with a cutout decoration detail in the handle. This can be a straight handle or a heart, but if you have an idea for a simple design, we can try and make this possible too. Your spoon will be a gift to keep for yourself or give to your loved one. This course is taught by Jon Hall, a talented professional City and Guild trained carver who teaches our one-day ‘Intro to Woodcarving’. We supply all the tools and materials and can advise you on which simple tools to buy to carry on this fascinating hobby. Love Spoons. In folk museums and heritage craft collections throughout Europe and the UK, you can sometimes see versions of these charming ‘Lovespoons’- some with one or two hearts carved out of their handles. The traditional lovespoon was made by a man who gave it to his beloved in order to show his skills and commitment. Her father would also have been able to see the man’s craftsmanship. Some of them are full of complex symbolism. A lock denoting security, a cross for faith, horseshoes for luck, bells for marriage and some including interlinked chains. As a ‘pastime’, many hours were spent on them and sailors passed their free time embellishing them with mermaids and anchors. One-day course 10.00 – 5.00pm.

You will learn about the tools required for carving, the types of wood and techniques for carving and finishing a simple wooden bird. By following a step-by-step process of carving a 3D object, from the selection of a suitable wood to the final stages of sanding and finishing. Participants will gain knowledge of carving techniques of carving in the round. The course will be taught by experienced woodworker Jon Hall who will provide personalised guidance to everyone, and give them tips and tricks to improve their carving skills. At the end of the day, learners will have a finished wooden bird that they can be proud of and can display in their homes or give as a gift. No prior experience in carving or woodworking is required for this course. Beginners welcome. All necessary materials, including the wood block, the use of carving tools, and finishing supplies, will be provided.

Spooky season has arrived and to celebrate, we're excited to be hosting our annual Pumpkin Carving Night - exclusively for 20s and 30s** 🎃 For this, we've gone and reserved a private area near Temple, so we can get into the Halloween spirit with some fun and festive crafting. To help you, we will be providing a range of tools, candles, sharpies, spoons and all the other bits needed for a fun-filled evening of pumpkin carving. All you need to bring is your **Pumpkin of Choice** and plenty of creative inspiration. And when you're finished with your pumpkin, you'll also have the option to **decorate and decoupage** your very own Halloween mask 🎭 Once the crafts are done and your creations are complete, we’ll then clear the space to make room for more socialising.
