From The Badminton Collective Sessions.

Come along on Saturday 30th May for treasure hunt around the historic area of Southwark! The treasure hunts are a good way to get to know an area of London whilst meeting new people. **About the area** In around 200AD the Romans built a bridge between Londinium (now the City) and a group of islands directly opposite across the Thames. The area has been inhabited since and was called *'Suthringa Geweorche'* (which means Southern Defensive Work) by the Anglo Saxons, we know it today as Southwark. In the middle ages, the area became known as the place of 'entertainment', with theatres, bear & bull baiting pits, taverns and brothels. It also had notorious prisons like the Clink and Marshalsea. **How it works** Come along at 1:30pm and you will be randomly divided into teams of 3 people (or you can choose your own team beforehand). For fairness, any London Guides or Blue Badge Tour Guides won't be allowed to take part. Then each team will be given 15-20 written clues which you have to find the answers for. It's up to your team to work together to find the answers. The answers will be found on blue plaques or statues. You can answer them in any order and you will be provided with a map of the area to help you. It's not a race, so you can take your time getting to know Southwark. **Prizes** The team to get the most correct answers and then return to base (a local pub or cafe) will win book vouchers for Waterstones bookshops of £10 per person. If more than one team gets the top score, there will be a tie break question back at the pub. Running through the heart of London; the River Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed. Come along on Sunday 7th June to explore London’s dynamic history... **About the foreshore** I will be your guide as we will be going down to the Thames foreshore at low tide, where we will have about 1h 30mins to have a look around for objects before the tide comes in. I will tell you more about foreshore, the industry in the area and will be on hand to identify and date objects you find. Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore after being washed in on the tide (we are not allowed to dig or scrape the foreshore surface). You will find everything from bits of pottery, clay pipes, bottles, animal bones to ship items. Most of the things we find are from the Medieval to the Victorian period or you might be lucky and find something Roman or older. The foreshore at Rotherhithe was where lots of ships were dismantled, so you will see lots of ships nails, ships timbers and items related to the people carrying out the dismantling. The foreshore is very stoney, so please wear sensible shoes (preferably walking boots/shoes or wellington boots). V&A Storage Stratford including Bowie exhibition

Join me for an exploration of the V&A storage in Stratford, including the Bowie exhibition. This is a very different and enjoyable museum experience where you can find artifacts displayed on shelves. You will find Victorian pieces of furniture next to Greek statues and rebuilds of 60s housing estate flats. It’s clearly designed to awaken your curiosity. We will stay at the exhibition for at least 1.5 hours, more if we want to, and then have a coffee in a very popular cafe near by afterwards. As always, please only sign up if you are intending to attend. The event is free but the usual £1.50 are a none refundable maintenance fee and meetup will also charge you £0.60. We would appreciated it if you cancelled no later than 2 days before the event and to please avoid cancelling on the day as that may get you removed from the group. We are meeting at Stratford station at 2pm and we will leave at that time. Once we are on the move you may not find us. Therefore, please be on time. It is a 30 minute slow walk from the station.

**A fresh take on dating for straight and LGBTQIA+ singles in their 30s, 40s and 50s, brought to you by LoMAZ. We visit a different museum on the last Friday of each month, before heading to the pub.** This month, join us for a relaxed evening of conversation and connections at the **[V&A Museum South Kensington](https://www.vam.ac.uk/south-kensington)**. It's just like a usual LoMAZ event except for one thing: everyone there will be single. Come for friendship, come for dates, come along! Look for the LoMAZ sign.*** Address: Cromwell Road, London, SW7 2RL * Look out for LoMAZ hosts wearing a 'host' sticker in a yellow frame and they will welcome you. We will post a note in the comments on Friday. * You can choose to wear a LoMAZ logo sticker (indicating you are straight) or a LoMAZ rainbow sticker (indicating you are LGBTQIA+), or you can wear both stickers. Wearing stickers means everyone can see who is part of the group and helps you find us as we move around the museum. If you see someone with a LoMAZ sticker, feel free to chat to each other. **6:45 pm - 7:40 pm: Explore the museum** * We'll then explore the museum together. Hosts will always be there to chat to, and there will be an optional activity. * Meeting point to go to the pub is by the Cromwell Road exit near the circular reception desk. **8.00pm - late:** **Pub social: *pub tbc*** * We'll carry on the evening in a nearby pub. If there is suitable bar location in the V&A late event we stay there for a bit too. ***Venue tbc in the event comments the day before the event.*** * As this is a free event, we can't afford to book a private space. The pub we are going to does not accept table bookings after 6pm. Jane Austen Alton Walk

A most wonderful 8.5 to 9 mile walk in Hampshire tracing the steps of Jane Austen whose house we shall visit en route ! Group return train tickets for the train at 9.53am to be purchased that arrives at Alton at 11.10am. Train ticket : Alton Return. Or you may decide to drive. Please bring packed lunch, water, snacks etc plus waterproof jacket and walking shoes/boots/trainers. The walk shall start by 11.15am. You should be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour and have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity. Meetup fee £5 payable in cash or in advance by bank transfer. We shall have a drink at the end of the walk. If you wish to visit Jane Austen's House please make an online booking for around 3.45pm and then we shall all take the bus before taking the 5.14pm train back to London.
