10 Tickets only! Light supper at 5.15 for those who wish to join, otherwise Cathedral at 6.20. This is a special ticket only open night at St Paul's. As a group, we will take the opportunity to look around the inside of St Paul’s Cathedral in the evening light and explore the Cathedral’s heritage. We will have the opportunity to hear little known stories from the rich history with Spotlight Talks from expert guides, and self-guided trails. We will also get the chance to see a range of heritage skills with displays from highly skilled craftspeople including stone masons and embroiderers and join handling sessions with the Collections team. Both at the same time and following the activities above, those who wish, may also take part, but separate from the group, in some of the more spiritual and religious activities going on at the same time, such as an opportunity to sample Christian mindfulness, music from the Cathedral Consort, and much more. Also, following our group visit, and again, only for those interested to stay (I won't be staying), the evening will close with a sung service of Compline under the Dome. The Crypt will be open for the evening as will as the Cafe. but please note the Dome Galleries won't be open. As a group, we will likely stay at in the Cathedral for 1 to 1.5 hours. After that, you are welcome to stay on individually as discussed above. As always, please only sign up if you are intending to attend. The event is free, except for this special event we are asking for a non refundable £3.00 meetup group maintenance fee, upon which meetup will also charge you a small amount on top. Before the visit, I intend to go for a light inexpensive supper at Pipel, which is just around the corner. Running through the heart of London; the River Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed. Come along on Sunday 13th September to explore its history! **About the foreshore** I will be your guide as we will be going down to the Thames foreshore at low tide, where we will have about 1h 30mins to have a look around for objects before the tide comes in. I will tell you more about foreshore, the industry in the area and will be on hand to identify and date objects you find. Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore after being washed in on the tide (we are not allowed to dig or scrape the foreshore surface). You will find everything from bits of pottery, clay pipes, bottles, animal bones to ship items. Most of the things we find are from the Medieval to the Victorian period or you might be lucky and find something Roman or older. **Footwear** The foreshore is very stony and sometimes muddy, so please wear sensible shoes (preferably walking boots/shoes or wellington boots). Plastic gloves and bags will be provided. We will be finished by about 11:00am. **The Thames Foreshore is private land, so before we go down, I have to give everyone a short talk on health & safety on the foreshore. Once a year in September, 800 private buildings in London open their doors for the weekend and let the public in to look around and admire their architecture. We are going to take full advantage of this visiting buildings on the Saturday and the Sunday. On the Sunday we are visiting 3 buildings. **Bank of England Museum (built in 1925)** The museum is part of the Bank of England rebuilding in the 1930's by Sir Herbert Baker. One room is a reconstruction of 1793 Bank of England Stock Office by Sir John Soane. The museum is home to a collection of diverse items relating to the history of the Bank and the UK economy from the Bank's foundation in 1694 to the present day. The museum is normally closed at weekends. Finish at 1:00pm and walk to the next building. Arrive at the Guildhall Yard - 1:15pm. **Pearly Kings & Queens Harvest Festival in Guildhall Yard** Join the Pearly Kings and Queens of London as they celebrate their traditional Harvest Festival. The event takes place in Guildhall Yard every year and there will be traditional entertainment with many Pearly Kings and Queens dressed up in their finery, there will be morris dancers, maypole dancers, marching bands, horses, donkeys and carts. Finish at 3:00pm and walk to the next building. Arrive at St. Barts Hospital North Wing - 3:15pm. **St. Bartholomew's Hospital North Wing (built in 1732)** The Grade I listed North Wing at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in the houses two of England’s most important interiors, the Great Hall, and the Hogarth Stair with its large paintings by William Hogarth. The hospital was designed by architect James Gibbs. Finish at 4:00pm and head to the pub. **Cost** Entry to all buildings is free!
