Balancers Community Volunteering - Clothing Distribution

Balancers Community Volunteering - Clothing Distribution

Thu, Aug 27, 5:00 PM
From Balancers - Expand Your Circle
4.4

Hi Balancers, We believe community is about more than meeting new people. It's also about showing up for those who need support. As part of our ongoing partnership with Refugee Community Kitchen, we're inviting you to join us for a different kind of volunteering session. This time, we’re joining **Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK)** at their Goodge Street service to provide essential clothing to people who need it. 👕 **HOW IT WORKS** We’ll meet at **6:00 PM in front of the Dominion Theatre**. From there, we’ll cross the road to Primark and split into small groups. Each group will be given a few essential clothing items to find and buy. Once we’re done, we’ll walk about **5 minutes to Goodge Street**, join the RCK service and distribute the clothing while their team serves food. 💷 **CHIPPING IN** We’ll collect contributions from the group and use the full amount to buy the clothing that evening. If you can, **bring some cash** — but there’s absolutely no pressure to contribute much. Even **£1 helps**, and you’re just as welcome to volunteer regardless of how much you contribute. 💬 **Join our Volunteer WhatsApp group for updates and coordination:** [https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hzm7P7Tr0QD92MnwmpHTVK?s=cl&p=a&ilr=1](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hzm7P7Tr0QD92MnwmpHTVK?s=cl&p=a&ilr=1) 🤝 **NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED** We’ll explain everything on the day. Just bring yourself and be ready to help. **Good to know:** 📍 Meet: In front of the Dominion Theatre ⏰ 6:00 PM 👕 Primark is directly across the road 🚶 Goodge Street is around 5 minutes away As always, Respect, Kindness and Authenticity come first. We’re there to support people with dignity and without judgment. Let’s keep showing what our community can do when we act with heart. See you there 💛

LDN Talks August Community Showcase

LDN Talks August Community Showcase

Thu, Aug 27, 5:30 PM
From Rust London User Group
4.7

We are excited to announce our August Community Showcase. This event gives individuals of all skill levels a chance to come together and share their experiences with Rust. Whether you’re working on a personal project, contributing to an open-source initiative, or teaching a concept related to Rust, we invite you to present your work and insights. Take this opportunity to build your confidence and share what you are doing. Speakers === **David Haig** ... Talk details coming soon. **Alexey Ozeritskiy** **Title: Making the boundary between SQL and Rust disappear** The talk shows how Rust code can be compiled together with SQL queries using LLVM, removing the usual boundary between SQL and external functions. **Jake Mitchell** **Title: Reactive Rust Without the Executor** Building systems that react to data ticking at different frequencies is hard. In an electronic trading system, market data, orders, fills, risk, etc. all arrive at their own rates, and every decision depends on all of them at once. Reactive programming is a powerful abstraction for exactly this: describe what depends on what, and let an engine work out the rest. In Rust, the reflex can be async streams. You reached for it to handle some I/O, and it climbed up your call stack until your whole system is async. It didn't stay in its lane. Wingfoil draws a hard line between I/O and logic. Wire your calculations as a graph once, and the engine runs it in dependency order, every node once per tick, no locks on the hot path — then uses macros to compile that same wiring into a single monomorphised function. A dense 10×10 graph does a full cycle, all hundred nodes ticking, in 32 nanoseconds—0.32 ns per node —and outperforms Tokio. Swap the live feed for a recorded one, and your logic never notices. Async is an excellent I/O tool — it just doesn't have to be the architecture your whole project bends around. [https://github.com/wingfoil-io/wingfoil/](https://github.com/wingfoil-io/wingfoil/) .... More talks to come, please dm Ernest if you would like to talk
