From Philosophie des Gehens in Berlin

**Fragen? Schreib mir einfach hier.** ## English **90 minutes of walking and thinking — free, right in the heart of Berlin** Nietzsche trusted only thoughts that one has walked into. Walter Benjamin called the street “the dwelling place of the collective.” We take both of them at their word and set off. ## Four ways of walking, one route We begin in Weinbergspark with fifteen minutes of silent walking—slower than usual, with attention directed toward the ground. Then we stroll along Torstraße and Auguststraße: walking like someone who has nothing to get done. That is precisely what Benjamin wrote about. At Koppenplatz and on Große Hamburger Straße, walking becomes a way of reading a city marked by gaps. We pause briefly and say little. At Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, we ask when walking becomes political—on a square crossed by many demonstrations. In between, we walk for a while in pairs, with a question. At the end, we form a circle: one sentence from each person. ## Who it is for For anyone who enjoys walking and thinking. You need no prior knowledge, no texts, no preparation. If you prefer listening to speaking, you will feel at home here—a large part of the walk will take place in silence. ## Who I am Ralf Müller. I earned my doctorate at Humboldt University on European and Asian philosophy, teach at various academic institutions, and work as a logotherapist and existential analyst in Berlin. I also teach the adult-education course on this topic—at the end of the walk, I’ll say two sentences about it. The 90 minutes themselves belong to walking. ## Practical details **Monday, 07 September 2026, 6:00–7:30 p.m.** Meeting point: Cafe Fleury on Weinbergsweg at Volkspark am Weinberg, (5 minutes from Rosenthaler Platz U-Bahn station) End point: Linienstraße 162, around 4:30 p.m. Free of charge; participation limited to 15 people About 3.5 km; slow pace; flat route, partly on cobblestones Please wear comfortable shoes, bring a weatherproof jacket and something to drink We will walk even in the rain—that is part of it ## A question to bring along If you like: Is there a route you walk regularly—and does your thinking change while you walk it? No obligation, just an invitation. ## If you want to continue walking On 12 and 13 September, we will explore these four ways of walking in depth: a weekend course at VHS Berlin Mitte, comprising 16 teaching units, partly indoors and partly outdoors, with texts by Benjamin as well as writings from philosophy of life and phenomenology. €34.40 (€22.80 reduced rate). Registration through VHS using course number **Mi108-019H**. The walk on 29 August is independent of the course and complete in itself. **Questions? Just write to me here.**

Walk around the Tegeler See/Forst

Walk around the Tegeler See/Forst

Sat, Sep 12, 9:00 AM
From Berlin LGBT Social Club
4.7

As the next event in our hiking series, we will walk in the vicinity of the Tegeler See and Tegeler Forst. We will meet just outside U-Alt-Tegel station at 11:00. Please don't be late! You should expect to be back at U-Alt-Tegel earliest at 16:30. Note that U-Alt-Tegel is still closed, so if you take the U6, you'll have to switch to a bus at Kurt-Schumacher-Platz. Alternatively take the S-Bahn to S-Tegel. This will be a fairly lengthy hike - approximately 17 km in total, although it is on almost completely flat ground. At about 8 km we will reach an area with a few cafes, so we might be able to stop for some food or a drink, if there's space. But I'd suggest bringing a sandwich. Definitely bring water. Please bring water, sun-screen and appropriate clothing/shoes. You will also need a BVG ticket (covering zone B). Well behaved animals are of course welcome!
