Sketch the New East River Park!

Sketch the New East River Park!

Sat, Jun 6, 3:00 PM
From Central Park Sketching & Art Meetup Group
4.8

The East Side Coastal Resiliency Project is a huge initiative that's redesigning the whole east side of lower Manhattan. It's to prevent storm flooding, but it's also giving us refurbished parks. Part of it is now open - let's meet up and sketch it together! **We'll meet at the entrance to Corlears Hook Park, at the corner of Jackson St and Cherry St, in the Lower East Side, Manhattan.** Then we'll walk across the FDR together (don't worry, there's a bridge) into the park to draw. Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at 646-831-9816. Looking forward to sketching with you! *** IMPORTANT: In case of rain, I will let people know early in the morning if it is canceled, and then reschedule for another day. *** What makes our Meetups different from other art groups and classes? There's no instruction, but we like to share our work, and chat and be inspired. Share tips and learn from people in a casual environment where all levels of artists are welcome! Don't be shy to ask anyone anything! • We sketch for a bit, usually 45 minutes or so, and then get back together and share our drawings, and then sketch again, etc. There's usually time for 3 sketches. • Please bring your own supplies - anything you like to work with - pens, pencil, watercolor, pastel, small sketchbook or large paper, iPad, whatever suits you. • We hand out nametags so everyone can meet one another! • We take photos to share on the site later. Take a bunch! • Sorry, but please leave the dogs at home; they tend to step on the artwork. Thanks. • The Meetup is FREE and everyone at all skill levels is welcome! *** Please note that if you add a comment below it will spam everyone with an email, so please use your judgment.

Where Art Meets Machine: Creating Stories That Change How We See

Where Art Meets Machine: Creating Stories That Change How We See

Thu, May 28, 11:00 PM
From Startup Grind NYC
4.8

Award-winning directors **[Michaela Ternasky-Holland](https://michaelaternaskyholland.com/?utm_source=luma)** and **[Aaron Santiago](https://aaron.work/?utm_source=luma)** are building worlds at the cutting edge of AI, VR, and immersive media. Rather than create for spectacle, their aim is to **collapse the distance between strangers.** In collaboration with the **[National Arts Club](https://www.nacnyc.org/?utm_source=luma)** and its **[Art and Technology Committee](https://www.nacnyc.org/arts-and-programs/committees?utm_source=luma)**, this conversation will reveal how they use **generative AI, motion capture, 360° cinematography, projection mapping, and volumetric capture** to tell stories that cross lines of culture, ability, and lived experience. From Emmy-winning VR documentaries screened at **Tribeca and Cannes** to experimental AI films created with OpenAI's SORA, Ternasky-Holland and Santiago work where technology stops being a tool and starts becoming a language. They'll discuss their solo projects, their collaborations, and the question at the heart of their practice: **Does technology inspire art, or does art give technology meaning?** Whether you're a creator, technologist, or just curious about where storytelling is headed, this is a rare chance to hear from two artists **shaping the future of how we connect.** Reserve your spot and **arrive early**. Space is limited.
