Free Snug Harbor Cultural Center Outing! | NYC CONNECTS! 🗽🖼🎨
Sun, Aug 30, 4:00 PMHi Everyone! 👋🏾 Our last event was quite the experience! 🤨 Let's talk about the next one. ✏️🗒 Another new venue for us! We'll be heading to the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden on Staten Island! It used to be a retirement home for sailors, during the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 1976, the buildings and grounds have been managed by Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden as a cultural center complex and used by various cultural and arts organizations. It's a large space, please bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water! There's also food in case anyone gets hungry. There may be an additional option to go somewhere else afterwards. We'll see! 😏 ⚠️ This trip requires the free Staten Island Ferry and the paid bus! We will take the 12:30pm Staten Island Ferry, so to allow as many people to get there, I'll confirm the start time to 12pm. If you miss the 12:30pm ferry, it will be very difficult to catch up, so DO NOT BOARD the 1pm ferry, and be sure to catch us at the next one! ⚠️ Hope to see you there! 📺Our IG @NYCCONNECTS

Freegan Vegetarian Feast in Staten Island
Tue, Sep 1, 9:30 PM*Attendees are encouraged to participate in Monday’s trash tour to help rescue food to use for this Freegan Feast.* A FREE vegetarian, mostly vegan, community meal we make together with love, using the food the group rescued on the Trash Tour the night before. We’ll meet new people, reconnect with old friends, tell stories and jokes, and generally unplug from the current pent-up world. Please note that while freegans encompass a diversity of diets, our feasts are vegetarian (and mostly vegan). Arrive at 5:30pm to begin cooking and preparation. Plan on lending a hand in some way even if other commitments prevent you from arriving on time. Media WILL be welcome **by appointment only**, and journalists will be required to respect the wishes of those who do not want to be photographed. RSVP (at least a day ahead) for yourself and any guests on Meetup or to Janet at (347) 724-6954 to get the location.
