Workshop: Super Smash Bros bot tournament

Workshop: Super Smash Bros bot tournament

Sat, Jul 11, 12:15 AM
From Code for Sydney
4.7

This month we are running a workshop into creating bots for the computer game Super Smash Bros Melee. We can then face our bots off against each other in a kockout tournament to see who has built the ultimate agentic fighter! The framework we will be using is based off of the Dolphin Nintendo Gamecube emulator and the Libmelee Python library. Feel free to clone and start playing with it now, or we will be running through installing the dependencies and getting up to speed on the day. https://github.com/Code-for-Sydney/smash-for-sydney What will you do? \- hand craft a bot to use Jigglypuff's powers to her full potential? \- write a bot that randomly smashes buttons? \- port the SmashBot code over to this framework? \- get an LLM to write a bot from your natural language instructions? PR's to improve the framework are also very welcome as it is is very bare bones right now. Also please do join the discussion on Discord [https://discord.gg/wPmp25Xnm5](https://discord.gg/wPmp25Xnm5) Code for Sydney is a collaborative coding club where tech meets real-world impact. We gather to solve meaningful problems, experiment with code and explore the possibilities of AI. Join us to learn, build and connect with Sydney's tech community! Networking with fellow software engineers, designers and student/s welcome! If anyone would like to present a quick talk or propose a project idea, do talk to us! By attending this event, you consent that you may be photographed and recorded on video. These photos and videos may be used for marketing and promotional purposes in the future. If you have any concerns please let the team know upon arrival.

Offline Morning

Offline Morning

From OffMode

**A Sunday morning for the things you keep meaning to do.** **Offline Morning** is part of OffMode’s July event series - slow social gatherings for people who want more from their free time than rushing, scrolling, and saying they’ll make time for their hobbies “soon.” The first part of the morning is yours. Read. Journal. Draw. Let your mind wander while enjoying your morning coffee. We’ll also have creative materials around the room so you can pick up something you’ve been meaning to return to. Then, the room opens. Games come out. Tables mix. Conversations start. The morning shifts from quiet solo time into warm, real-life energy. You might leave with a new friend, a calmer mind, a few pages read, a half-finished drawing, or just the rare feeling that your Sunday actually belonged to you. ## **How the morning unfolds:** **10:00am – 10:30am \| Arrive & get cosy** Lock your phone away and get cosy. **10:30am – 11:30am \| Connect with yourself** Read, journal, draw, write, think, relax, or do your own offline thing. **11:30am – 1:00pm \| Connect with others** This is where the morning shifts from quiet solo time into real-life connection. Think of conversations and games with people who also chose to spend their Sunday a little differently. **1:00pm – 1:30pm \| Wrap\-up** Get your phone back and enjoy the rest of your Sunday feeling a little more present and lighter. See you offline, *OffMode*

Offline Night

Thu, Jul 30, 7:30 AM

**A mid-week escape with no distractions, new people, and good drinks.** **Offline Night** is part of OffMode’s July event series - slow social gatherings for people who want more from their free time than rushing, scrolling, and saying they’ll make time for their hobbies “soon.” Think low lights, good drinks, shared tables, and easy conversations with people who also chose to spend their Thursday night differently. The night starts slow. Arrive, put your phone away, and step out of the week for a while. Read, journal, sketch, write, or simply do nothing and relax. We’ll have creative materials around if you feel like picking something up. Then, the room comes alive. Conversations start. Tables mix. Strangers become familiar. The night gets warmer, louder, and a little more unexpected - the way it does when people are actually in the room with each other. Come alone. Come curious. Come as you are. **A better mid-week ritual starts here.** ## How the night unfolds: **5:30pm – 5:45pm \| Arrive & settle in** Put your phone away, get cosy & grab a drink **6:00pm – 7:00pm \| Connect with yourself** Read the book you keep meaning to open. Journal. Sketch. Write. Explore a new hobby. This is time to slow down, rediscover your creativity, and remember what you enjoy when no one is asking you to be productive. **7:00pm – 8:00pm \| Connect with others** Join a game, follow a conversation, meet someone new. This part of the night is all about making connection feel easy - no pressure, just people in the same room choosing to be present. **8:00pm – 8:30pm \| Wrap\-up** Get your phone back and step into the rest of your week feeling lighter, calmer, and more present.

Harbour After Dark

Harbour After Dark

Fri, Aug 7, 8:30 AM
From Sydney's Friends and Connections Events Group!
4.7

**Harbour After Dark 🌆** Where meaningful conversations, genuine connection, and new friendships begin. Step into a different kind of Friday night. Harbour After Dark brings together Sydney locals who are driven, social, established in what they do, and value genuine conversation, authentic connection, and meeting like-minded people in person. In a world of Zoom calls, remote work, endless scrolling, and busy schedules, many of us are craving something more human. A chance to step away from the screens. To unwind after the week. To meet new people naturally. To enjoy conversations that feel easy, genuine, and energising. Over the past few years, Harbour After Dark has grown into a well-established social gathering where people come to expand their social circles, reconnect with familiar faces, and meet new people in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Many of our guests have been attending for years and often bring friends along, while new faces join every month, making it easy to feel welcome whether it's your first event or your tenth. ✨ Dress Code: Smart casual to cocktail attire. 🍸 Drinks, cocktails, food, and coffee are available for purchase throughout the evening. 📅 Friday, 7 August 🕡 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm 📍 Pumphouse Bar & Restaurant 17 Little Pier St, Darling Harbour NSW 2000 My goal has always been to create a space where people can genuinely relax, connect, and enjoy being around good people. Every decision I make is with that experience in mind. Before You Attend To help us prepare the best possible experience, please complete these two simple steps before the event: **👉 RSVP on Meetup** https://www.meetup.com/sydney.../events/314944884/ **👉 Complete the Registration Form** https://forms.gle/2xWtk83zu3PSdM8n8 Knowing our numbers in advance helps us prepare the room, create the right atmosphere, and ensure everyone can be comfortably accommodated. Places are limited, so I encourage you to register early. If your plans change after registering, I'd really appreciate you letting me know by emailing info@aimforthestars.net.au, so we can offer your place to someone else. **Our Community** Harbour After Dark is built on kindness, respect, and genuine conversation. We ask every guest to contribute to the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes these evenings so enjoyable. All guests are required to sign in upon arrival. This helps us maintain a safe and well-managed environment throughout the evening. Please note that photography and videography may take place during the event for use across our social media channels, website, Meetup page, and email communications. By attending, you acknowledge and consent to this. If you prefer not to appear in photos or videos, this event may not be the right fit for you.
