Come along on Saturday 12th September for a coach trip to Hertfordshire! **About the trip** Hertfordshire sits just north of London and is one of the greeniest counties in southern England. It has some very pretty villages set in rolling countryside. We will be in west Hertfordshire visiting: **Aldbury** Aldbury is one of the most picturesque villages in Hertfordshire, with timber-framed cottages and a historic inn clustered around the village duck pond where an old set of stocks still stand. Most of the land surrounding the village is largely unaltered since the late medieval period. It has been used as a setting for popular T.V programmes including 'Midsummer Murders' and films like 'The Dirty Dozen', 'Bridget Jones' and 'The Thursday Murder Club'. **Tring** Tring is also historic market town where the ancient Icknield Way crosses the Roman road of Akerman Street, The town has a strong connection with the first president of the United States; George Washington, as his great-grandfather John left Tring in 1656 to live in the New World. The Grand Union Canal also passes through the town and it has a fantastic Natural History Museum. **Wendover** Wendover is an attractive market town on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. The striking Clock Tower is Wendover's most recognisable landmark, which was built in 1842 as a Market Hall and prison. A row of attractive thatched cottages on the Tring road are said to have been a marriage gift of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn. **Coombe Hill Monument** Coombe Hill Monument is a 64-foot granite obelisk standing at 852 feet above sea level just outside Wendover. Built in 1904, it gives stunning panoramic views and on a clear day, you can see the Berkshire Downs, the Cotswolds and Chequers, the country home of the Prime Minister. You'll then have free time to spend on the beach or perhaps have a walk on the pier, which, at 2km, is the longest in the world.

Come along on Saturday 26th September to visit the Kent coast for a 5 mile hike, visit three towns and ride the mini steam train! **About the day** We will be heading to the Kent coast to the town of Hythe, then walk 5 miles along the coast to Dymchurch, before catching the mini steam train to Dungeness. We will be able to spend some time in all three towns. **Hythe** Hythe is an old market town with both medieval and Georgian buildings, as well as a Saxon/Norman church on the hill. Its seafront is mainly Victorian. It offers stunning views across Southampton Water and is known for its historic pier. We will then walk 5 miles along the coast to Dymchurch (alternatively, you can catch a local bus number 102 to Dymchurch). **Dymchurch** Dymchurch sits at the very edge of the Romney Marshes and played a vital role in defending the coastline, with the Martello Towers and Dymchurch Wall forming part of the Napoleonic sea defences. It has a sand and shingle beach. **Mini Steam Train** From Dymchurch, we will then get the mini steam train to Dungeness. Opening in 1927, the track runs parallel to the coast on a gauge of 15 inches (380 mm). **Dungeness** Dungeness is a unique headland on the coast of Kent, famous as Britain's only desert due to its vast, windswept shingle landscape. It has a collection of old fishing houses and their boats are still visible on the shingle. В воскресное утро здесь особенно людно и празднично: вдоль мощёной улицы разворачивается ярмарка с домашней выпечкой, ремесленными сувенирами и ароматом свежесваренного сидра. Мы неторопливо прогуливаемся между прилавками, заглядываем в антикварные лавки и вдыхаем воздух старинного города, который когда-то был излюбленным местом английской аристократии. 🍀 Следующий отрезок маршрута ведёт нас вглубь природы, к загадочным **Eridge Rocks** — скоплению песчаниковых скал, причудливо изрезанных временем и поросших мхом. Эта получасовая прогулка по лесным тропинкам дарит ощущение полного единения с дикой природой: солнечные зайчики пробиваются сквозь кроны деревьев, а тишину нарушает лишь щебет птиц и шелест листьев под ногами. Здесь легко забыть о городской суете, ощутив себя первооткрывателем, нашедшим потайной уголок старой Англии. Затем наступает время гастрономического удовольствия — мы направляемся в **[The Nevill Crest & Gun](https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/nevillcrestandgun)**, паб с полутысячелетней историей, который местные жители считают лучшим местом для воскресного обеда. Внутри вас встречает атмосфера настоящего английского трактира: тёмные деревянные балки, потрескивающий камин и гостеприимные хозяева. Здесь подают классическое воскресное жаркое с золотистым йоркширским пудингом, нежнейшей говядиной, хрустящим картофелем и густой подливкой, а в дополнение — местный эль, сваренный по старинным рецептам. Это не просто обед, а целый ритуал, который заряжает энергией и настроением на вторую половину дня. 🌺 После сытного обеда мы отправляемся к главной жемчужине нашего маршрута — **замку и садам [Scotney](https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/scotney-castle)**. Этот удивительный ансамбль, раскинувшийся в долине, захватывает дух с первого взгляда: на крутом склоне возвышается викторианский особняк, а внизу, среди зеркальной глади озера, покоятся живописные руины средневекового замка, оплетённые плющом и розами. Мы бродим по тенистым аллеям, спускаемся к воде, любуемся отражением башен в озере и фотографируем каждый уголок этого сказочного места. Сады, разбитые террасами, поражают разнообразием растений: здесь и пышные рододендроны, и изящные магнолии, и тихий розарий, благоухающий даже в начале осени. Мы позволяем себе раствориться в этой красоте, забыв о времени, — благо, что в запасе целых два с половиной часа, чтобы обойти все тропинки, подняться на холм для панорамного вида и просто посидеть на скамейке, слушая плеск воды и птичьи трели. Рядом с замком расположилась деревушка **Lamberhurst** — крошечный уголок старой Англии с каменными коттеджами, сельской церковью и парой уютных чайных, где можно купить домашний джем или мед. Можно не торопясь пройтись по её тихим улочкам, вдыхая аромат влажной земли и осенних листьев. Собравшись с мыслями и уложив в памяти все яркие образы, мы покидаем этот райский уголок и отправляемся в обратный путь. Дорога до Лондона пролетает незаметно — мы обсуждаем увиденное, делимся фотографиями и строим планы на новые путешествия.
