Enjoy pretty Lake Macquarie (2 hours from Sydney) while zipping along on our catamarans and getting a good introduction to sailing. More exciting than being on a yacht ! We have 18-foot, 16-foot and 14-foot catamarans. No experience is required. Come for either the weekend or a day (we recommend coming for the weekend). If so, are you prepared to give others lifts ? * If you don't have your own transport, what suburb do you live in ? * Contact phone number. * Do you have a tent ? We can hire but you must have your own sleeping bag. * Can you swim (we wear lifejackets but cannot take non-swimmers) * Are you reasonably agile ? We don’t need super athletes, but you are sitting on a flat deck (not a seat) and you need to be able to move 3 metres to the other side of the boat at reasonable speed. A simple test is whether you can lie flat on a carpet and stand up within 4 seconds without using furniture. * We cannot take people weighing more than 95 kg (even if agile). COST: Sailing fee $70 (weekend); $40 (day), camping $26, lift $15, tent hire $10. You need your own sleeping bag. This is a group event and requires people to be on time to assist in rigging boats. If coming Saturday, arrive by 10:00 am ready for the outdoors. If coming for the day only be prepared to stay until 6pm. For Sunday, be prepared to arrive by 9am and stay until 5pm. Camping is at a caravan park with facilities. We are a long-established sailing group run by the YHA. We hold sailing weekends every 4 weeks. NO SAILING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Catamaran sailing is a fun and exciting way to experience the water, as the boats zip along in the wind. The boats are easy to sail and offer a good opportunity for anyone who wants to learn or experience sailing by getting some practice on either handling the jib, trapezing (hanging out the side of the boat on a harness) or skippering. We are not a "racing" group, we just like to be on the water and away from Sydney for a weekend, taking it easy.

Coastal Escape: Manly North Head Circuit, wormhole and beyond ~12/15 km

Join us for a stunning coastal adventure where we’ll explore the North Head Circuit and the surrounding coastline. This route offers **spectacular ocean and harbour views, WWII history at North Fort, and local wildlife**. Depending on the weather and group pace, we will also navigate the “**secret wormhole” tunnel linking Manly to Freshwater,** followed by an optional extension towards Dee Why or a return to Manly for a late lunch. Meet at the Seashell Sculpture in front of The Felons Seafood restaurant. * **Difficulty:** Moderate–Hard due to the undulating terrain, stairs, some steep sections, and a steady pace of \~4 km/h with short breaks. * **Route:** Starting at Manly Wharf, we will complete the 11 km North Head Circuit. We will then head towards the "secret wormhole" tunnel. If the weather is pleasant, we will tackle the rocky path through the tunnel to Freshwater Beach, returning to Manly via the B2M path. On a hotter day, we will visit the wormhole and return to Manly via an easier path. We will finish at Manly, where you can catch the ferry back to the city or stick around for a swim and a well-earned late lunch! * **Gratuity:** A $5 gratuity is appreciated to cover organising costs. Dear members, For those who live in the St George area or who are willing to travel down, we are opening another language exchange event on Wednesday at the beautiful Rocksia Hotel, https://rocksiahotel.com.au/ (3 min walking from the Banksia station), which is a laid-back place with modern décor and contemporary furnishings throughout. Boasting two separate kitchens – the bistro and Lola’s Kitchen, they have happy hour between 4 pm and 6 pm every weekday. So arrive a little early to get a happy hour drink to start the night. If you feel like practicing Spanish or English, or just want to broaden your personal network over a few drinks, this would be a perfect place to do so, meet new friends, and hang out in a relaxed and casual environment. **Forestville to Manly: Classic Bushwalk, Manly Dam, Manly Beach 15KM Medium** This excellent bush walk has the following stages: 1\. Forestville to Manly Dam: 8km\. Toilets\, and lunch stop\. 2\. Many Dam to Manly Ferry Wharf: 8km\. What more could you possibly want from a day out!!! **Distance:** 16KM **Type of Walk:** Great bush walking in the first half, including little known trails leading onto the back of Manly Dam. Parks, well-formed paths for the rest of the day. **Difficulty:** Medium. **Walking Pace:** Steady pace all day and average 4.5 km per hour. **Meeting Place + Transport:** We meet at **Chatswood Train/Bus Interchange** to catch the **160X Service Bus**, departing **Bus Stand A at 10:02AM**, through to Forestville. Great North Walk Mt Kuring Gai to Hornsby via Berowra 22km med-hard

Fantastic 22.3 km one-way trail from Mount Kuring-gai to Hornsby which traverses Berowra Valley National Park and includes sections like the Blue Gum Walk and Tunks Ridge Reserve. Expect varied terrain with steep sections, particularly as you approach Mount Kuring-gai, where you'll encounter panoramic views. The route also passes by Fishponds and Berowra Creek. Be prepared for a challenging hike that requires stamina and resilience, especially during the final ascent. Jacaranda Walk – North and South Harbour Purple Spender Ending in Gelato!

**They say purple is the colour of royalty… or the sexually frustrated… or both (in case you were wondering, I see myself as Meetup royalty, lol!).** **It’s a real experience to walk through Sydney at this time of year with blooming Jacarandas (sometimes referred to as purple banksias, as I recently learned from our botany expert Andy).** **We will start at North Sydney Train Station (meet outside the station up the stairs at road level) at 10am sharp.** **From here we will venture towards Lavender Bay for our first purple experience and photo opportunity.** **Then we will visit Wendy’s Secret Garden and walk along the waterfront near Luna Park, admiring the harbour as we go, on our way to Kirribilli for more purple experiences and photo opportunities (one street here is like a “Jacaranda tunnel for royalty or the sexually frustrated or both”).** **We will then cross the Harbour Bridge, see the first public toilet in Australia at The Rocks (now, that’s not purple but still exiting!), make our way to Circular Quay for even more purple experiences and photo opportunities.** **We will have lunch at Circular Quay (plenty of options).** **After lunch, will walk around the Opera House, through the Royal Botanical Gardens to Lady Macquarie’s Chair for lovely views of the city.** **Then we will walk past Woolloomooloo Wharf on to Potts Point, where there is a Rivareno Gelateria. We will stop there and recharge ourselves with delicious calories (why not?).
