[https://www.queensbp.nyc.gov/ridequeens/](https://www.queensbp.nyc.gov/ridequeens/) On Sunday, Sept. 20 at 10am, the Queens Boro President, NYC Parks & Transportation Alternatives is hosting an inaugural “Ride Queens” Bike Tour, a free community cycling event open to the general public, held rain or shine, that will take thousands of riders across Queens. The start & finish is at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens with a post-ride festival. **Part 1: Bike Ride (the main part of the event)** There are two different bicycle routes offered: 12-mile and 25-mile loops. We will ride the 25-mile loop though Northern and Eastern Queens. Please Note: This is a leisurely paced bike tour and NOT a bicycle race! Please bring a bicycle and a bicycle helmet. Please register online at the above URL link as soon as possible as the event is limited to the first 2,000 cyclists. Full Moon Ride! Friday, Sept 25 is the next full moon. Want to ride with Brompton friends through Liberty State Park to enjoy a moonlit night of spectacular Manhattan skyline views? This is a chill ride with equal emphasis on riding, socializing and gazing at the NYC evening sky while having a leisurely picnic. Check out the beautiful pictures we took on the pre-ride below! *This ride is for Brompton bicycles only.* **Meeting/Departure** Meet us inside the Brookfield Place Ferry Terminal at 6:30pm. Our ferry departs at 6:45pm. *There is only one ferry per hour so make sure to be on time.* **Sunset** We'll watch the sunset from the top level of the ferry as we cross the Hudson River. **Full Moon** We'll bike around the park and end up at the southern most point for the moon rise and gorgeous skyline views. **Picnic** We'll sit in the grass to watch the moon rise. Please bring your own beverage, picnic blanket, and snacks to share. **Ride** 10 miles - chill - flat - no traffic **Return** We'll return from Jersey City via the Paulus Hook Ferry arriving at Brookfield Place approximately 9:30pm. **What to bring** * Head light and tail light are essential * Picnic blanket if you have one * Picnic snacks or food to share * Your own beverages This ride is all about the evening sky. Yes, I'm cheap AF. That's why I've done the 5 Boro Bike Tour exactly once. Paying more than a Benjamin to ride a bicycle around New York leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth and an even worse feeling in my wallet. I could spend that money on something useful—like 47 slices of pizza. So why pay to ride when you can ride for **FREE**? Come join me for the annual Tour de Bronx, the largest **FREE** organized cycling event in New York State. That's right: zero dollars. Nada. Zip. The price is so low even your inner cheapskate will be impressed. **What's the story?** We've come a long way from Da Bronx of the 1970s. Back then, a tour of the borough might have involved abandoned buildings, burned-out cars, and making eye contact with absolutely nobody. Today, you get 6,000 of your closest strangers, all on bicycles, cruising through historic districts, waterfronts, greenways, parks, and some surprisingly beautiful neighborhoods. And nobody is asking you for money. There are two main routes: 25 miles for those who enjoy cycling but still have other things to do that day, and 40 miles for those of us who apparently have something to prove. Naturally, I'm doing the 40. The route takes us through the south, east, and central Bronx, including Mott Haven, Clason Point along the East River, and Pelham Bay Park, the largest park in New York City, with nearly 3,000 acres of forests, trails, and enough greenery to make you briefly forget you're still in New York. We'll also hit City Island and Orchard Beach along the way. And just when your legs are starting to wonder why you thought this was a good idea, we roll into the New York Botanical Garden for a post-ride music festival. Oh, and there’s free stuff too. **The important stuff!** • It's **FREE**, but don't get too excited and just show up. You **MUST** register in advance to participate. I'm doing the 40 because apparently I make poor decisions. • Bringing your kids? Take the 4 or D train to 161st Street/Yankee Stadium, or Metro-North to 153rd Street/Yankee Stadium. So grab your bike, bring your appetite, and come burn a bunch of calories with me. It's the Bronx. It's 40 miles. It's free. And there is free stuff at the end. Honestly, what more could a cheap bastard ask for?

"Beers & Wheels" - Captain Lawrence: connecting all the dots

## Grand Army Plaza to Captain Lawrence Brewery Who was Captain Lawrence and why a brewery is named after him? Before you clip in for the Captain Lawrence Brewery Ride, let's give a toast to the man who never actually brewed anything: Samuel Lawrence, a captain in the 3rd Regiment of the Westchester County Militia, who spent the Revolutionary War dodging Redcoats around Westchester instead of dodging potholes on Route 100. So why does a hazy IPA carry his name? Founder Scott Vaccaro grew up on Captain Lawrence Drive in South Salem — a street named after the good captain — and when it came time to name his homebrew operation, hometown pride (and maybe a lack of better ideas) won out over anything more original. Here's the plot twist nobody puts on the beer label: Captain Lawrence's actual boss back in 1776 was none other than Colonel Pierre Van Cortlandt, commander of that very 3rd Regiment — yes, that Van Cortlandt, as in the very park where your quads will start filing complaints today. So when you roll out of Van Cortlandt Park, named for the Colonel's own family estate, and grind up the Old Put trail toward Elmsford, you're unknowingly retracing a 250-year-old chain of command: Colonel's park to Captain's beer, minus the muskets, plus a well-earned flight of sours waiting at the finish line. This "Beers & Wheels" adventure — one of the iconic rides in LMCC's "Beers & Wheels" series — kicks off at Grand Army Plaza at an easy, social pace — this is a ride for conversation, not speed records. Don't worry if Grand Army Plaza isn't convenient — riders are welcome to join the group at other points along the NYC route, and to peel off whenever it suits you too. We wind through Brooklyn and Manhattan, cross the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey (a few rolling hills to keep things interesting, all manageable with multi-gear bikes), then head north through scenic river towns. For a short stretch we'll ride along Route 9W, technically a state highway, but a beloved classic among NYC-area cyclists, so it's more familiar territory than it sounds. From there it's a relaxing detour through Piermont, then over the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge for sweeping Hudson views. Regular rest stops keep everyone fueled, with an extended lunch at Captain Lawrence Brewery as the main event. And don't feel obligated to drink beer, either. Plenty of riders opt for alcohol-free drinks instead, since the real point of the stop is good food, good company, and a few laughs, not what's in your glass. We loop back on the shaded, smooth South County Trailway. Prefer to skip the ride back? Hop the Metro-North from White Plains, or take the subway via the elevator near Van Cortlandt Park. Bring a helmet, bike lights, water, sunscreen, snacks, lock, and a small repair kit. A multi-gear bike is a must for the hills. Just know that in New Jersey especially, bike lanes can be scarce, so comfort riding alongside traffic is a must. This is an informal ride; each rider is solely responsible for their own safety, equipment, and compliance with traffic laws. Elite Trip - Circumnavigation of Manhattan - 31 miles

**We'll paddle around the entire island of Manhattan.** It'll take 10 hours, we'll travel 30+ miles, on 3 rivers, and under 21 bridges! This will be an amazing, yet a very challenging trip. You must be able to paddle at least 3 knots per hour for the 9+ hours. **PREREQUISITES TO RSVP:** 1. volunteered at least 4 shifts in 2026 AND 2. Completed 2 advanced trips in 2026 (or 1 advanced and 2 intermediate ) AND 3. You have proven that you can paddle 1 mile (including turns) in under 15 minutes in the craft you are planning to paddle AND 4. You can self rescue in 90 seconds or less **CRAFT:** * Sit on top - not allowed * Sea Kayak - Level 3 * OC1/OC2 - not allowed.
