Cloud Native Melbourne x Grafana & Friends: August Meetup

Cloud Native Melbourne x Grafana & Friends: August Meetup

Tue, Aug 25, 8:00 AM
From Grafana & Friends Melbourne

Two Melbourne communities, one room. Cloud Native Melbourne and Grafana & Friends Melbourne are teaming up for our August meetup — and we want to hear from the people who actually run this stuff. This is a CNCF community night, so the whole cloud native spectrum is fair game: Kubernetes in production, platform engineering and internal developer platforms, observability and SRE, security and supply chain, GitOps and delivery, service mesh, eBPF, cost and FinOps, and AI or agentic workloads running on cloud native infrastructure. What we want is the honest version. What you ran, what it cost you, what broke, and what you would do differently. Real implementation stories over polished overviews. FIRST TALK CONFIRMED Cail Young — Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Octopus Deploy "To Make An SLO, First You Must Invent The Universe: OpenTelemetry Collection From Scratch" If you have ever inherited a system with 400 dashboards and no idea which four matter, this one is for you. Cail goes from nothing to an SLO you can actually trust, and is honest about what that costs. ONE MORE SPEAKING SLOT IS OPEN We would rather hear from this community than from a vendor deck. Anywhere across the CNCF landscape works. It does not have to be observability — if you have a Kubernetes story, a platform engineering story, a security story, or something you built with an open source project and learned from, we want it. You do not need to be an expert or an experienced speaker. Lightning talks are 5 to 10 minutes and first-time speakers are genuinely welcome. We will help you shape the topic, review your slides, and rehearse the demo. Submit here: https://sessionize.com/cloud-native-melbourne Or comment on this event and we will come to you. WHO THIS IS FOR Platform engineers, SREs, developers, architects, and anyone running cloud native infrastructure in anger. You do not need to be an expert. There are no bad questions here. AGENDA 6:00pm — Doors, food and drinks 6:30pm — Welcome 6:35pm — Cail Young: To Make An SLO, First You Must Invent The Universe 7:10pm — Second talk (speaker to be announced) 7:45pm — Networking 8:30pm — Close VENUE Mantel, Level 2, 452 Flinders Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. Two minutes from Southern Cross Station and a short walk from Flinders Street. Head to Level 2 and someone will meet you at the lifts from 6:00pm. FOOD Provided, with vegetarian and vegan options. Tell us about allergies when you register and we will sort it. CODE OF CONDUCT This is a welcoming, vendor-neutral space. Speakers talk about problems, not products. We follow the CNCF Code of Conduct. THANK YOU To Mantel for hosting us, and to Grafana Labs for supporting the Grafana & Friends community. See you there.
