South Melbourne to Frankston Coastal Bike Ride (50km or 100km Option)
Sat, Aug 29, 10:45 PMJoin me for a big, scenic ride down the bay — South Melbourne all the way to Frankston, hugging the coast the whole way. We'll meet outside the South Melbourne Life Saving Club at 8:45am for a quick hello, then roll out at 9:00am. The plan is a casual, social pace along the beach, staying together as a group with regroup points at the nice spots so no one gets left behind. We'll aim to reach Frankston around 12:30pm for a proper break and lunch. From there you've got two options. Do the \~50km one-way and catch the train home from Frankston, or turn around and ride back for the full \~100km. Both are completely fine — pick whatever suits you on the day. This is a long ride. Even at a relaxed pace, it's best suited to people who've done at least one 50–100km ride in the last few months. **Who this is for** * Riders with reasonable fitness who've recently done a 50km+ ride * Anyone keen on a long, social day out along the coast rather than a workout or a race * Solo riders very welcome — plenty of chatting along the way and at lunch **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hZJc1HySxETfyy4KA **Timeline** * 8:45am – Meet outside South Melbourne Life Saving Club and say hi * 9:00am – Roll out and head south along the coast * 12:30pm – Reach Frankston, take a break and grab lunch 1:30pm – Option A: catch the train back from Frankston (\~50km done). – Option B: ride back to South Melbourne for the full \~100km * \~5:00pm – Full-loop riders arrive back at South Melbourne (approximate — depends on pace and breaks) **Transport** Frankston is on the Metro Frankston line, so the \~50km riders can train it home. Bikes are allowed on Melbourne trains — just avoid blocking doorways and give priority to other passengers. **Bring** * A bike in good working condition (please give it a once-over beforehand) * Helmet * Front and rear lights * Plenty of water * Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are smart for an early start) * A puncture repair kit (and the know-how to use it) * Snacks, and some cash/card for lunch and the train **Expect** * Difficulty: long distance, but a relaxed pace * Pace: casual and social — we ride together, not to drop anyone * Vibe: friendly, chatty, take-in-the-view * Group style: regroup points at scenic spots so we stay together **Important notes** * This isn't a race — it's a social ride, and we'll go at a comfortable group pace. * Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and you're comfortable with the distance you're taking on. * Weather-dependent: I'll post an update if conditions look unsafe, so keep an eye on the event page. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear. * Please ride within your own ability, obey road rules and share paths courteously with walkers and other riders. * You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety, gear and wellbeing on the day.
