Mates+Checkmates - The Hounslow Chess Social

Mates+Checkmates - The Hounslow Chess Social

Thu, Sep 10, 5:00 PM
From Chat+Learn

Chat+Learn brings you the first event in its board games series, Mates+Checkmates, focusing on casual chess and creating local neighbourhood social connections. Hosted in the exquisite lounge, Mimi's, where food and drink is available to order throughout the evening, this is a unique social gathering where the wonderful game of chess meets a cheeky evening sweet or savoury bite. Whether you're a competitive player, haven't played in years or a complete beginner learning how the pieces move, this social is for all skill levels and all ages eager to move pieces on a physical board and learn from game outcomes in a relaxed, supportive environment. Children, teenagers, adults and seniors are all welcome. **The event journey:** 🎥 Play your own film - a slow, long game unfolds like a movie where as the pieces move the plot thickens, action takes place and laughs are shared 💭 Chess places the player in a situation where they use their observational, analytical and evaluative thinking skills in order to progress the game 🧠 The game exercises both parts of the memory; short-term and long-term - recalling moves, pattern recognition and openings **💡** Our event places emphasis on deep focus, concentration and complete immersion - one small distraction is enough to cost the game! 🧘 Chess teaches the individual skills which can translate into day-to-day life such as understanding the outcomes of hasty decision-making, reducing stress by planning ahead, patience and virtue ❔ Post-analysis of a game with your opponent can be a crucial part of the game; understanding where things could have gone differently - using this time and information can develop foresight and planning 🤝 Create new social connections with fellow neighbourhood residents, enjoy a game or even just a chat 🌉 An event that bridges the ages where an 11-year-old child can play an 80-year-old retiree 💬 We are promoting nostalgia for the times when in-person over-the-board games brought genuine connection within the community The cost of living, isolation and rising rates of reversible health conditions are affecting many families and individuals across the population. We thrive to help the community by showing simple steps which can transform your mental wellbeing, such as a trip to a local third space (a place between your home life and work/school life) and a conversation with another member of the community. Our laid-back evening event isn't about winning in a game of chess; it's about social connection, sharing stories, smiles and laughter and creating memories to look back on. For the event, boards are provided. These are tournament-sized boards, larger pieces and larger playing mats so be ready for an epic game! **About Chat+Learn:** Chat+Learn is on a mission to build a community that helps the members in three areas; nutrition, functional training, mental wellbeing. Our aim is to show the members that taking care of yourself can be fun through food choices, exercising and chatting with like-minded individuals. This is the new outlook on the health ecosystem approaching wellness with a 360° view. The goal of our events are for the members to focus on: * **Gut Training** \- Feeding the body nourishing dishes * **Muscle Training** \- Building the body's strength * **Mind Training** \- Unlocking new brain circuitry We have two pillars: * **Chat** \- Talk\, Connect\, Build Friendships * **Learn** \- Listen\, Understand\, Personal Growth **Photography & Filming disclaimer:** Please note that photographs and video footage will be taken throughout **Mates+Checkmates**. These will be used by Chat+Learn/Mimi's Coffee and Dessert Lounge for marketing and publicity in our publications, on our website and in social media or in any third party publication.
