Thought Experiment: A What-if Event
Sat, Aug 22, 5:00 AM# **THOUGHT EXPERIMENT: The Dark Descent** **Arc:** Horrors of Consequence **Keywords:** Fear, Morality, Responsibility, Trust, Survival, Consequence Something has gone wrong. You don't yet know what. The situation is unclear. Information is limited. Everyone has a different idea of what should happen next. At first, the choices seem manageable. Then the consequences begin to appear. New information changes what you thought you understood. Small decisions become harder to undo. And as the situation deteriorates, the group must decide what it is willing to risk, who it can trust and whether the right decision still exists once every option carries a cost. Every decision will shape what happens next. Every argument will reveal something about the people making it. And by the time the full picture becomes clear, it may be far too late to change what has already been set in motion. Welcome to **Thought Experiment**, a meetup where we explore large âWhat ifâŚ?â scenarios through discussion, role-play and difficult decisions. Each session places the group inside one unfolding story. New information is revealed in phases, forcing participants to reconsider what they believe about morality, responsibility, trust, fear and human nature. Some people bring research. Others bring instinct, imagination and personal values. There are no perfect answers. The aim is curiosity, disagreement and the uncomfortable moment when a simple answer stops feeling simple. **The Dark Descent** is part of our **Horrors of Consequence** arc â stories about decisions that become harder to live with the further the story unfolds. This event is for curious minds of all kinds: students, professionals, creatives, horror fans, psychological-thriller fans, philosophy lovers or anyone who enjoys thinking differently. ## Event Details đ **Melbourne Central Lion Hotel** đ **3 PM start** đĽ **Small-group event: 6â14 people** đ **Free for the first 14 people, then $6 plus booking fee** đ **Tickets:** [https://thoughtexperiment.au](https://thoughtexperiment.au/) â **Find the table with the hourglass.** Please RSVP, as places are limited. We ask everyone to purchase a drink from the venue. Conversational English is required to get the most from the discussion. ## Format * Introduction and private roles * An unfolding psychological-horror scenario * Moral and ethical decisions * Small-group discussion * Hidden information * New information revealed in phases * Final reveal * Debrief and optional post-event drinks * No right answers, just curiosity, debate and the uncomfortable question of whether a bad outcome always requires a bad person.

Paranormal Romance Book Club and Culture
Sun, Aug 23, 12:30 AMHi all, Welcome to the August Paranormal Book Club!! If you love books that are lighter and fluffier to read, with supernatural elements (magic, vampires, werewolves, etc.) then you will enjoy this group. After book club we head off and become a tourist in our own city, by attending an exhibition or some other cultural activity. For August, we are going to meet at Time Out Fed Square for book club, then head across to ACMI for a look at their free exhibitions. The play school exhibition we were originally thought about attending, will have concluded. I've included a link to the existing exhibitions and we can discuss which one we want to go to during the meet-up. [What's on | ACMI: Your museum of screen culture](https://www.acmi.net.au/whats-on/?what=exhibition&when_start=2026-08-23&when_end=2026-08-30) The books for Sunday 23 August 2026 are: An Ancient Witches Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward [An Ancient Witch's Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward | Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/236810735-an-ancient-witch-s-guide-to-modern-dating) The Book Witch by Meg Schaffer [The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer | Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/238226952-the-book-witch) Stay for a spell by Amy Coombe [Stay for a Spell by Amy Coombe | Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/238766958-stay-for-a-spell) If you would like to look at all the books that we have read so far, click [here](https://1drv.ms/x/s!Am2wjNpl1c1ijCNvt-hrWM8gPaem?e=riV48x).
