Come for the workshops, stay for the community, discover new ways to journal — or simply find out what all the fuss is about. This year's themes are: EMBRACE THE CHAOS & REWRITE YOUR STORY. We will be journaling to explore the following topics: money mindset, overcoming creativity blocks (and other blocks, too!), modern dating, grief and loss, trauma, ancestry, the wisdom of your body, rewiring your brain, shadow work, childhood memories, and how to stay in love with life when everything seems to be falling apart. *Working with others?* You'll also pick up tools for facilitating groups, using poetry therapy in coaching, and getting your book into the world through traditional publishing (using the tips from our insider!) Narrative Nonfiction Course: From Reporting to Story

**Narrative Nonfiction: From Story Idea to Finished Piece** Join award-winning journalist and writer Mariane Pearl for a five-session intensive on the craft of narrative nonfiction at The Studio, a community space from Backstory. Through close reading, craft discussions, writing exercises, and peer feedback, you'll learn how to turn real-life material into compelling stories. Working as an editorial team, you'll pitch ideas, develop angles, build scenes through interviews and observation, and refine your writing through discussion and revision. Across five Fridays, we'll explore everything from the nonfiction contract and the art of the profile to structure, pacing, detail, and pitching your work. By the end of the course, each participant will leave with a finished essay, column, or book proposal. **About Mariane Pearl** Mariane Pearl is an award-winning journalist and author of *A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Daniel Pearl*, a book recounting the investigation into the kidnapping and murder of her husband, journalist Daniel Pearl. The book received international acclaim and was adapted into a feature film starring Angelina Jolie as Mariane. She is also the author of *In Search of Hope*, a collection of profiles of extraordinary women from around the world, and the founder of Women Bylines, a platform for journalism and multimedia storytelling by women and girls. Get feedback from other writers, find motivation to meet your deadlines, and bemoan the difficulties of the writer's life with like-minded people. We will discuss up to two submissions of 3,000 words at this event. Submissions will be sent out a few days in advance. Please come with the pieces read. New here? Wonderful! Os propongo una actividad basada en comentar relatos/cuentos que hemos escrito en casa con tiempo y calma. Para el domingo 18 de octubre vamos a escribir sobre "No me pongais tantas normas que no me da tiempo a romperlas" Escribe con total libertad usando tu creatividad Escribe, canta, declama lo que te surja del alma. Eso sí con un máximo de **dos páginas** (Arial, 12 pt y 1,15 espacio ). Nos encontraremos en la cafetería viena las 11.30h.

**This meetup is for** **anyone—anyone** **at all—who enjoys playing around with words in a safe and welcoming environment. You’ll be given a prompt (usually one word, such as “playground” or “shiver”) and time to express yourself in writing in response to it. Anything goes: prose, poetry, lists, letters, lyrics; any form which calls to you and requests expression.** **After we have finished writing together, you will be invited to share your piece with the group. Reading is optional, but other writers’ responses are a gift to you.** **We offer our responses to this newly-written work in the form of what stayed with us, what we remembered from the piece, what resonated with us. This is not a writing class, but learning what other writers remember in your piece will guide you in the craft of writing.** **We treat all writing as story, literature or fiction, whether imagined or remembered. This is liberating for the writer, as you are free to write and it will never be considered to be “about you.” The first person is always just a character.** **Please bring your own writing equipment. It is helpful to come on time so you can hear the prompt and have enough time to write. Coffee Connections

A casual (but coordinated) coffee break to meet new friends, take a Zoom break, and get your AM caffeine fix. Stop by for a few minutes or stay the whole time. Bring a friend or wander in solo. Come for the coffee and company, or just bring a book to read while surrounded by other in-real-life, community-seeking humans. Come by every Friday, or just when you happen to be in town. Make it whatever you need it to be that week. It's not an \*event\* per se, but we hope these Friday meet-ups can become a fixture of the bookshop! Gathering spot will be in the downstairs area of the bookshop (near the Community Library). Coffee and tea are 1.50€ and can be purchased at the cash register upstairs.
