The guided portion of our visit will last approximately one hour. This event will begin at 7:00, in the meeting house of the NY Society for Ethical Culture (W. 64th St. at Central Park West; see the map on this page). Then at 9 PM, whoever is eager to have the good times continue to roll will move to another venue (TBA) in the vicinity. Once you are in the NYSEC building, take the stairs or elevator to the 4th floor. We will be located in the room called Ceremonial Hall. Exploring Brooklyn's Beautiful Fort Greene & Clinton Hill & Jazz Festival

We'll trace the history of the area from when it was farmland back in the 1600's to modern area when it became a popular place for jazz musicians, other people in the creative arts and African-American middle class families. The Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park honors the over 11,000 Americans who died in nearby Wallabout Bay aboard British warships during the American Revolution. The park akso occupies the site of a Revolutionary War fort established by the Americans to defend Brooklyn against British attacks. We'll start out with a vist to Fort Greene's Downtown Cultural District which includes the Brooklyn Academy of Music, one of NYC's great places for movies, music, dance and theater. This is where Nureyev's first American performance took place and also the site of opera star Enrico Caruso's last concert. Over the year's BAM has hosted live performances from Isadora Duncan, Sarah Bernhardt, Paul Simon, Laurie Anderson, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Sufjan Stevens to name a few. Cheers!
