🏛️ LET’S GO — Inside Donald Judd’s SoHo Home & Studio
Sat, Aug 8, 4:30 PM## **A Private Guided Visit to 101 Spring Street** 🗓 **Saturday\, August 8\, 2026 \| 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM** 📍 **Judd Foundation / 101 Spring Street** 101 Spring Street, New York, NY 10012 👥 **Limited Group Event** 💵 **Special Social Club Price: $35 Per Member** ## ✨ A Rare SoHo Art, Architecture & Design Experience Join us for a very special private group visit to **101 Spring Street**, the historic SoHo home and studio of artist **Donald Judd**. This is not a traditional museum visit. 101 Spring Street is a preserved five-story cast-iron building in the heart of SoHo, where Donald Judd lived, worked, collected, designed, and permanently installed art, furniture, and objects in relation to the architecture of the building itself. It is one of New York City’s most fascinating hidden cultural spaces — part artist’s home, part studio, part architectural landmark, and part living installation. ## 🎨 Who Was Donald Judd? Donald Judd was one of the most important American artists of the 20th century and a central figure in the development of Minimalist art, although he resisted being confined by that label. His work transformed how people think about art, space, form, proportion, material, light, and environment. At 101 Spring Street, Judd created something extraordinary: a building where art, architecture, furniture, and daily life were carefully arranged as a complete visual and spatial experience. Rather than simply hanging art on walls, Judd treated the entire building as an environment. ## 🏛️ About 101 Spring Street Donald Judd purchased 101 Spring Street in 1968, when SoHo was still an industrial neighborhood filled with cast-iron buildings, lofts, and artists’ spaces. The building became his New York residence and studio, and it remains one of the most important preserved artists’ spaces in the city. During our visit, we will move through the building floor by floor, seeing how Judd arranged art, furniture, architecture, and objects in carefully considered relationships. This is a rare opportunity to experience the actual environment Judd created, rather than seeing his work removed from context in a conventional gallery or museum. ## 🖼️ What We Will Experience Our private guided visit will include: ✨ Donald Judd’s historic SoHo home and studio ✨ Five floors of art, design, architecture, and living space ✨ A preserved cast-iron building in the heart of SoHo ✨ Works, furniture, and objects installed in relation to the building ✨ A private group format reserved for our Social Club ✨ Two guides for our group, allowing for a more intimate visit The visit offers a unique look at the relationship between art and environment, and how an artist can shape an entire building into a complete creative world. ## 👥 Private Group Format This will be a **private guided visit for our Social Club**. Because of the size and nature of the building, our group will be divided into two smaller groups, each with its own guide. Both groups will begin at the same time and rotate through the building. This allows us to experience the space properly while keeping the visit intimate and manageable. ## 💵 Cost and Pricing The cost for this event is: # **$35 Per Member** Please note that this is a **private group visit**, not the regular public guided visit. The public guided visit is priced slightly lower, but public visits are limited to a very small number of participants and are not arranged exclusively for our group. Our private visit allows our Social Club to attend together, with two guides, a reserved group time, and no outside public visitors included in our tour. The actual private group cost quoted to us is **$40 per person**, but I am offering this event to members at **$35 per person**. As with all paid Social Club events, payments are nonrefundable unless the event itself is canceled. ## ⏰ Event Schedule **12:15 PM** — Meet outside 101 Spring Street **12:30 PM** — Private guided visit begins **12:30 PM – 1:45 PM** — Guided visit through the building **1:45 PM – 2:00 PM** — Wrap-up and departure The Foundation reserves up to 90 minutes for the visit. ## ⚠️ Important Accessibility Note This visit involves moving through a five-story historic building. The guided visit includes walking up several flights of stairs, one floor at a time, with time spent on each floor before moving to the next level. An elevator is available for accessibility if needed, but members should be aware that this is a historic building and the visit involves vertical movement through the space. Bathrooms are located in the sub-basement. ## 🌟 Why This Event Is Special This is exactly the kind of hidden New York cultural experience that makes our Social Club so special. Many people know SoHo for shopping, galleries, restaurants, and cast-iron architecture, but very few have been inside Donald Judd’s preserved home and studio at 101 Spring Street. This is a chance to step inside a private world of art, design, architecture, and history — and to experience a landmark space that most New Yorkers have never seen. Join us for a rare and fascinating private visit to one of SoHo’s most important hidden cultural treasures.

Sat, Jul 25, 6:30 PMTickets: $39.98 ( incl. $4.98 fees ) (advance registration required) Click the link below to officially register for this experience: [https://www.nyadventureclub.com/event/1992359278234](https://www.nyadventureclub.com/event/1992359278234) When New York City's wealthiest residents moved uptown to escape the crowded downtown neighborhoods beginning in the late 19th century, they didn't just build big homes, but rather colossal palaces. From architectural details that included turrets, gargoyles, moats, and wrought iron inspired by Italian Renaissance tombs — to prominent American families that included names like Carnegie, Pulitzer, Vanderbilt, and Frick — it's time to travel up Fifth Avenue and uncover the incredible sights and stories behind the Gilded Age mansions that still line the avenue. Join [New York Adventure Club](http://www.nyadventureclub.com) as we hit the streets and explore the great Gilded Age Mansions of Museum Mile. Spanning along the Upper East Side's stretch of Fifth Avenue, Museum Mile got its name from the high density of world-class museums and cultural institutions that were built thanks to very wealthy benefactors during the Gilded Age — many whose great mansions still stand across Central Park. Led by NYC tour guide, Ginny Poleman, our curated path through New York’s most exclusive neighborhood dating back over a century will include: * A **then-and-now comparison of the neighborhood** using maps, illustrations, and vintage photos dating back to the 19th century * **A walk by museums that make up Museum Mile**, which include the Guggenheim, MET, and Cooper Hewitt * **Insider stories surrounding some of Museum Mile's most notable families**, including why Joseph Pulitzer had architect Stanford White soundproof his bedroom, how Andrew Carnegie was so wealthy that he could choose his neighbors, and why Henry Clay Frick wanted his home to become a world class private museum after he passed away * A trip past Cook Block and explanation as to why it's **today’s best example of early 20th century architecture** * A **look at Beaux Arts architecture that defined the era** that tied into the aesthetic of New York during the City Beautiful Movement * A **discussion of the architects** who built the great mansions and museums along Fifth Avenue and beyond, such as Stanford White, Whitney Warren, CPH Gilbert, and the team of Carrère & Hastings See you there! \*Please bring a water bottle and comfortable pair of shoes as we’ll be doing a lot of walking! \*\*This tour does not go inside any of the mansions \*\*\*This tour concludes at Cooper Hewitt at 91st Street & 5th Avenue Disclaimer Event takes place rain or shine. Join Us for the Brooklyn Heights Photo Shoot (Sat, August 1, 2026 @ 3:00 pm)
Sat, Aug 1, 7:00 PMBrooklyn Heights is a historic, largely residential neighborhood in Brooklyn known for its tree-lined streets, elegant brownstones, and sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge from the Promenade and nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park. It was designated New York City’s first historic district in 1965 and contains hundreds of 19th‑century Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, and Italianate row houses that give it a distinctly preserved, old‑New‑York character. We'll begin our walk through the fruit-named Brooklyn Heights streets: Cranberry, Orange, Pineapple, viewing their beautiful Brownstone buildings, then we'll head towards the famous Brooklyn Promenade with its magnificent classic view of Manhattan. Next, we can check on a hidden carriage-house lined street. After this Montague St., with all its shops, will become our next adventure. Along our route we will see Grace Church and have an opportunity to visit additional carriage houses down Grace Court then on to 58 Joralemon St. there lies a mystery surprise. Continuing west along Joralemon St we can head over to the waterfront and then to Brooklyn Bridge Park and Fulton's Landing. **PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES** **Technique Focus:** We’ll focus on composition tools like leading lines along the Promenade and tree-lined streets, experiment with depth of field to isolate subjects against cityscapes and use golden hour light to shape mood and texture in both color and black and white frames. Along the waterfront, we’ll practice slower shutter speeds for subtle long exposures of the East River and moving ferries, and hunt for reflections in windows, parked cars, and puddles to create layered, storytelling images you can compare and discuss with the group afterward. **Videos to Review Before the Photo Shoot** * Leading Lines: [Using Leading Lines, free video tutorial w Mike Browne](https://www.photographycourses.biz/using-leading-lines-pt-2) * Reflections: [Bing Videos](https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=reflections+youtube+how+to+photograph+reflections&&mid=1573B8FE601290DFDDE61573B8FE601290DFDDE6&churl=https%3a%2f%2fwww.youtube.com%2fchannel%2fUCkctXInfNh0Zf4p93itIVhw&FORM=VAMGZC) **Meeting Location/Event Hosts** Your host will be Frank. We will meet at Poppy's Cafe & Catering at 48 Henry Street, Brooklyn, NY @ 3:00 pm. **Directions** If coming by subway take these trains: the A train to the High St. station (if coming from Manhattan exit at the rear of the platform; if coming from Brooklyn exit at the front of the platform, & after using the steps & up escalator you will have 1 more flight of stairs to street level beyond the turn-style.
