Infracoders Melbourne September Meetup
Tue, Sep 8, 8:00 AMHello Infracoders! Mantel Group have kindly offered to host the Infracoders meetup in September, and will supply food and beverages. We have 2 technical talks per meetup. Commencing at 6pm, we will be finished by 8pm. There will be a delegation afterwards to a licensed venue for an informal Post Meetup Review with your hosts & fellow attendees. **Presentation 1**. **Archie Gunsekara** (Slack) // Shipyard: Slack’s Next-Generation EC2 Platform Built to bring modern deployment practices - immutability, progressive rollouts, and automated safety - directly to EC2 instances. Rather than continuously mutating long-lived instances, Shipyard treats infrastructure as deployable artifacts. Instances are short-lived and continuously refreshed, provisioning happens in seconds and rollbacks are metric-driven. This talk covers how Shipyard supports workloads that can’t easily move to containers - from Kubernetes worker nodes to egress network stacks. **Presentation 2**. **Sam Bentley & Phil Jay** (Reece) // Trust, flow, and getting elevated credentials just in time. Why Reece has a service named after a Pokémon - Magikarp - to help people stay in the flow of their work, obtaining elevated credentials to AWS *just in time* -- As always, please update your RSVP as your availability changes. All venues have space considerations for safety and comfort of Infracoders. If you'd like to present at future meetups, or have an office to host an event, please contact the organisers via Meetup, or on Slack: https://join.slack.com/t/infracoders/shared_invite/zt-4277k4e9g-829iw7LVPNUbQ7k_2arVOw -- Matt (@geekle), David (@David Lutz), Phil (@Phil J) or Peter H (@Peter)

Cloud Dojo V2.0
Thu, Sep 3, 7:00 AM***This is not a lecture where you sit quietly*** ***and forget everything by the next morning.*** AWS Cloud Dojo is a weekly, student-led session designed to help you understand cloud properly, prepare for AWS certification exams, and build the confidence to explain your thinking in interviews. Whether you are starting with **AWS Cloud Practitioner** or progressing towards **AWS Solutions Architect Associate**, each session combines theory, exam preparation and practical architecture building. ***What Happens Each Session?*** **5:00 PM to 6:00 PM: Understand the cloud** We will break down the important AWS concepts, work through exam-style questions and discuss the kinds of questions you may face in technical interviews. The focus is not just memorising the correct answer. We will unpack why an answer is correct, why the other options are wrong, and how the underlying AWS service actually works. Expect theory, real examples, common traps and plenty of questions. **6:00 PM to 7:00 PM: Build the architecture** In the second hour, we move from knowing AWS to thinking like a solutions architect. We will design architectures together, compare different AWS services and work through real scenarios involving scalability, security, availability, performance and cost. You may be asked to defend your design choices, improve an architecture or explain why one solution is stronger than another. In other words, we are going to grill cloud into our heads until services like EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS and VPC stop feeling like random abbreviations. ***Who Is This For?*** Complete beginners are welcome. You do not need prior AWS experience. This is also suitable for students who are: * Preparing for AWS Cloud Practitioner * Studying for Solutions Architect Associate * Getting ready for internships and technical interviews * Building cloud projects * Trying to finally understand what a VPC actually does ***What To Bring*** Bring your laptop, charger, questions and a willingness to be challenged. **Every Thursday and Friday** **5:00 PM to 7:00 PM** **Alan Gilbert Building, Level 1** **Free for students** Two classes. Two days. Every week. We are not speed-running certifications. We are building people who can actually explain the cloud.

Preventing Development Disasters
Tue, Sep 1, 9:00 AM**Learn to identify, manage and reduce some of the biggest risks that could derail a property development — before they cost you serious time & money.** **Preventing Development Disasters** On **Tuesday, 1 September**, we’re joined by experienced construction and development Project Manager **Justin Traitsis from Reddan Property Group** for a practical look at the issues developers need to think about **before and during construction**. *This isn’t property-development theory.* Justin will draw on years of hands-on experience managing commercial construction and advising developers to show you the kinds of issues that can create **cost overruns, delays, variations, disputes and compromised project outcomes**. Most importantly, he’ll give you practical questions and considerations that can help you **de-risk your next development before problems become expensive.** **What You'll Learn** Justin will take us through some of the common development and construction problems he sees within the industry — and the questions developers should be asking to reduce their exposure. **Choosing the Right Project Team** Not every architect, consultant, builder or project manager has the same experience or ability to manage development risk. Learn why your project objectives — particularly **cost, time and quality** — should influence who you appoint and how you structure your project team **Ground Conditions & Latent Risks** Discover what developers should investigate before construction and some of the questions worth asking before signing a building contract. **Authority Problems That Can Delay a Project** Power. Water. Sewer. Council. Roads. Trams. EPA requirements. Heritage. Flood and bushfire overlays. Authority requirements can introduce unexpected cost and substantial delays if they aren’t identified early. Justin will show you why these investigations should begin much earlier than many developers realise. **Design & Consultant Coordination** An architecturally appealing design does not automatically mean it is the most **cost-effective or buildable** solution. You’ll see how poor coordination between architecture, engineering and building services can lead to variations, ceiling changes, bulkheads, redesign and additional costs during construction. **External Materials & Selections** The cheapest material upfront may not necessarily produce the best project outcome. Justin will discuss issues including warranties, ongoing maintenance, structural implications and energy-efficiency requirements when assessing external finishes. **[RSVP now to attend FREE in-person or via Zoom](https://events.resultsmentoring.com/meetup-vic.html?utm_source=meetup&utm_campaign=drn)** **Mandatory & Quality Inspactions** What gets inspected? Who signs it off? And what quality-control procedures should your builder have in place before work gets covered up? Justin will explore both mandatory inspections and additional quality-assurance checks around areas such as waterproofing, façades and services installations **Building Contracts - Where Is the Risk Sitting?** Before signing your next building contract, do you understand: * What constitutes a qualifying delay? * Whether delay costs are capped? * How extensions of time are assessed? * How variations are submitted and approved? * The requirements for Practical Completion? * Payment terms? * Whether the correct drawings and revisions actually form part of the contract? These are among the contract issues Justin will discuss on the night. **Handover, Documentation & Defects** You’ll learn why developers should be pushing for handover documentation **months before completion**, rather than trying to chase everything after the builder has received their major final payment. Justin will also discuss the realities of defect management and why properly documenting, tracking and closing out defects before purchasers move in can make a substantial difference. **Important:** If you plan to attend, please click the RSVP link below and register. This helps us manage venue numbers and ensures you receive event reminders. **[RSVP now to attend FREE in-person or via Zoom](https://events.resultsmentoring.com/meetup-vic.html?utm_source=meetup&utm_campaign=drn)** **FAQ's** **-> Can I bring someone else along?** Yes, you are welcome to bring anyone who is interested in property investing, renovating, developing - it's all about learning and networking with like-minded investors. Please ask them to RSVP so that we know how many people are coming. **-> What are you selling?** Nothing, these meetups are all about learning and networking with like-minded people. **-> What are my Parking options?** There is plenty of parking in the street. We look forward to seeing you there. Best regards, – Tony **PS** You can attend in person or online by **[clicking here](https://events.resultsmentoring.com/meetup-vic.html?utm_source=meetup&utm_campaign=drn)**

Welcome to the next 2026 AWS Melbourne Well-Architected User Group Meetup!
Wed, Sep 23, 7:30 AMHi Architects, Welcome to our next AWS Melbourne Well-Architected User Group Meetup for 2026, including more exceptional speakers and topics! :-D At each meetup we covered off various pillars in detail, best-practices and insights from industry leaders that specialise in the Well-Architected Framework. And giving away drones, of course. Lots of drones. **Please also note that AWS Security now requests a company name and company email where it is available. If you are a student, please list your institution and your student email address at that institution 👍** We'll be announcing more speakers on [https://well-architected.me](https://well-architected.me/) and previewing presentations during the coming weeks - our speakers and details this month include: * **Wu Shilin, Principal Solution Architect — VeloDB / Apache Doris** **Cost-Efficient Real-Time Analytics on AWS: Storage-Compute Separation with Apache Doris** Real-time analytics have a reputation for being expensive — you pay for fast storage you barely use, and for compute that sits idle overnight. This session walks through VeloDB / Apache Doris's storage-compute separation architecture on AWS, showing how to push warm data down to S3 while keeping sub-second query latency on the data that matters. We'll round off with a **live demo** querying billions of rows against S3-backed storage, soattendees can see the latency-vs-cost trade-off in action rather than on a slide. * **Mystery Speaker** **Generative AI Cost Optimisation** Cost Optimisation is essential but with all the anecdotal stories of massive token budget blowouts, staying on top of Generative AI best-practices is essential to avoiding these scenarios. This month's menu will include: * Pizzas * Beer: Nastro Azzurro * Wine: Big and red 🤤 NB: Please check in up the stairs from the ground floor to the Mezzanine Level. So come join us at 5:30 for a 6pm **SHARP** start, followed by beer, wine, pizza and friendly networking after our talks :-) Tired of Linkedin’s "thought leadership”, spam and advertising? Join https://well-architected.me/ , the AWS community built for architects, developers and cloud professionals. * Connect with experienced AWS practitioners * Preview upcoming AWS Meetups and relive past content * Create and review beautiful AWS case studies in minutes * Prepare for AWS certifications with curated quizzes * Show your manager and reports you’re well-architected (Please note that by registering to attend you agree to your details being shared as and where required with Amazon Web Services and AWS Well-Architected User Group partners) in
