Blackout Anniversary Party 2026
Fri, Aug 14, 10:00 PMShortly after 4 p.m. ET on August 14, 2003, more than 50 million North Americans found themselves without power. Toronto, along with a number of American cities, including New York, Cleveland and Ottawa — came to a standstill as traffic lights, office buildings, subways and airports shut down. The blackout extended over 24,000 square kilometres, from Chicago all the way over to the Atlantic coast and down, including most of Ontario. In Toronto, over 4 million people were affected by the outage. As the sun went down and Toronto truly went dark, neighbourhoods came alive with bonfires, conversations, cookouts and music. **Do you remember where and what you were doing that night?** Make new memories and celebrate the anniversary with others at Trinity Bellwoods! 6 pm picnic (byo yummies) south end 8 pm bike rave 9 pm parade Everyone welcome. **ORGANIZERS** include [Lemon Bucket Orkestra](https://www.instagram.com/lemonbucketorkestra/p/Db3NSuKzWPH/), alongside groups like Little Rambunctious, Samba Elegua, Maracatu Mar Aberto, and the Zahrava Ukrainian Drama Theater.
