Please note this is NOT a math trade. If you're a designer, grab an available table and let people know you are looking for players. If you're a player, just sit down at a game and play! **SESSION ONE** 1:15pm - 3:15pm **SESSION TWO** 3:30pm - 5:30pm Scheduled sessions are the core of First Play! This event we have three scheduled sessions, with about 4-6 games running during each time slot. Following moderator announcements, each designer running a game will have the opportunity to do an 'elevator pitch' to players. After which, players decide which game they want to play. Two hour sessions are ideal for games that are 60-90 minutes, and have been playtested multiple times before. After play, be sure to leave time to give and receive feedback. Oh, and sometimes we give away prizes! 5:30-6:30pm **DINNER BREAK** 6:30-10pm **THE SKUNKWORKS** This is unstructured time to test your wildest ideas. Bring the game that may break in 5 minutes, the one that requires 10 people, or the one that may involve crawling on the ground. Bring objects that *could* be games, half baked ideas, and untested print and plays. If you feel like you have been missing that support that pushes you to reach just a little harder, so have we. **Gamers Get Gains** is a gamified fitness event wholly focused on leveling up every participant’s strength, endurance, and mobility, whiles encouraging daily habits that will benefit not only our bodies, but also our mental health. **NO - you do not need to be “in shape” to feel welcome here.** **YES - you can participate no matter what your goals may be.** Health is an undervalued foundation of our daily lives and everyone deserves a chance to be supported at every stage of their journey! **Here is the structure:** There are 3 decks - **Upper Boddy, Lower Body, and Cardio.** The Group must draw 2 cards from each deck in any order. The chosen cards will specify the workout that is to be done together. All workouts are beginner friendly but If the exercise is too challenging or not challenging enough, just try your best or substitute for another similar workout. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need tips on how to modify any workout to best fit your unique needs. Part comedy show. Part social-deduction tournament. Complete chaos. Six professional comedians who have performed at venues including The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and the Laugh Factory will compete across three live games of Ultimate Werewolf alongside volunteers selected from the audience. A few players will secretly be assigned as werewolves. Everyone else must identify them before the werewolves eliminate the entire village. Expect bluffing, accusations, alliances, betrayals, ridiculous defenses, and extremely confident decisions based on almost no information. PLAY OR WATCH Want to play? We save several onstage game spots for audience members who want to come and compete against the comedians. Prefer to watch? That works too. Follow the mystery, root for your favorite players, and try to identify the werewolves from your seat. Audience participation is completely optional, and no previous Werewolf experience is required. Everyone’s invited to play. **📅 Date: Saturday, October 3, 2026** **🕒 Time: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM** **📍 Location: Garvey Ranch Park** **🏠 Address: 781 S. Orange Ave., Monterey Park, CA 91755** **⚾ Meeting Location: Baseball diamond near Moore Street** **🚗 Parking: West side parking entrance at 751 S. Alhambra Ave., Monterey Park, CA 91755** **💵 Cover Fee: $0 per person** Ready to run, defend, strategize, and make a break for the flag? We’re getting together for an afternoon of co-ed Capture the Flag, starting in daylight and transitioning into glow-in-the-dark play as the evening approaches. This is a co-ed recreational event, and participants of all genders are encouraged to join. Men and women will play together on the same teams, with teams organized as evenly and competitively as possible based on attendance. Everyone will be divided into Red Team 🔴 and Blue Team 🔵, with red and blue scrimmage pinnies provided. We’ll also be using a glow-in-the-dark Capture the Flag set for the later rounds. Whether you’re the player charging across enemy territory, defending your team’s flag, creating a distraction, or waiting for the perfect moment to make your move, there’s a role for you. **Minimum Attendance Required** This event requires enough players to create two functional teams with both offense and defense. We need a minimum of 12 confirmed participants, allowing us to form teams of at least six players each. **If we do not have at least 12 confirmed participants by Thursday, October 1, the event will be canceled.** If you plan to attend, please RSVP by October 1 and keep your RSVP accurate. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows can significantly affect a team-based event like this. If the organizer cancels the event, any applicable attendance deposits will be refunded. **First-Time Attendee Deposit** To help maintain an accurate headcount and reduce last-minute no-shows, first-time attendees who have never previously attended an event hosted by Andy through this Meetup group are required to submit a $25 attendance deposit. Bronze tier members are also subject to the deposit requirement if they are first-time attendees. Gold, Platinum, and Lifetime tier members are exempt from the deposit requirement. The $25 is an attendance deposit, not a cover fee. The event itself remains free to attend. **Deposit Terms** **Cancel by Thursday, October 1 at 12:00 PM noon:** Your $25 deposit is refundable. **Cancel after Thursday, October 1 at 12:00 PM noon:** The deposit becomes nonrefundable. **Attend the event as scheduled:** Your full $25 deposit will be refunded within 10 business days after the event concludes. **RSVP but do not attend:** Your $25 deposit will be forfeited and will not be refunded. Capture the Flag depends on having enough players on both sides, and late cancellations or no-shows can substantially affect everyone else’s experience. **What Is Capture the Flag?** Capture the Flag is a fast-moving team game built around one simple objective: protect your flag while trying to steal the other team’s flag. The field is divided into two territories. Red Team controls one side and Blue Team controls the other. Each team has a flag positioned within its territory. Your mission is to cross into enemy territory, reach the opposing flag, capture it, and successfully bring it back to your side. Sounds simple? The other team is trying to do exactly the same thing. Some players may stay back and defend. Others may patrol the field, create distractions, support teammates, or make aggressive runs deep into opposing territory. Speed helps, but Capture the Flag is just as much about timing, communication, teamwork, and strategy. **Co-Ed Team Play** This event is designed as co-ed play, with men and women participating together on the same field and on the same teams. All genders are encouraged to participate. Teams will be organized with the goal of creating balanced, fair, and enjoyable competition based on the participants who attend. Athletic ability, experience level, and gender do not determine whether someone is welcome to play. The emphasis is on teamwork, sportsmanship, participation, and having a great time. **Red Team vs. Blue Team** Participants will be divided into two teams before play begins. 🔴 Red Team: Red scrimmage pinnies 🔵 Blue Team: Blue scrimmage pinnies Scrimmage pinnies will be provided and worn over your regular clothing so teammates and opponents can be easily identified. Teams may be adjusted between matches or quarters when necessary to maintain reasonably balanced sides. Before play begins, we will review the field boundaries, flag locations, tagging rules, starting positions, reset procedures, and any designated jail or safe areas being used. **Game Format** Each full match will consist of four 15-minute quarters. There will be a 5-minute break between quarters so everyone has time to rest, hydrate, regroup, and adjust strategy. Each match therefore includes: 60 minutes of active game time 15 minutes of scheduled breaks Each quarter begins with both teams reset on their respective sides of the field and both flags returned to their starting positions. If a team successfully captures the opposing flag and returns it to its own territory before the quarter expires, that team wins the quarter and receives one point. The field will then reset for the next quarter. If neither team successfully captures the flag before the 15-minute period expires, the quarter ends when time is called. After four quarters, the team with the most points wins the match. If the score is tied after four quarters, we may play a sudden-death overtime round, time and conditions permitting. The first team to successfully capture and return the opposing flag wins. **Basic Rules** Each team must defend its own flag while attempting to capture the opposing team’s flag. Once you enter the opposing team’s territory, you may be tagged by an opposing player. If tagged in enemy territory, you must follow the reset or jail procedure explained before the game begins. A successful flag capture requires the opposing flag to be brought back into your team’s territory according to the rules established before the round. Tagging should consist of a light touch only. There is no tackling, grabbing, pushing, shoving, tripping, holding, restraining, wrestling, body-checking, deliberate collision, or other aggressive physical contact. The complete rules, boundaries, and procedures will be reviewed before the first game begins. **Glow-in-the-Dark Play** As daylight begins to fade, we’ll transition into the glow-in-the-dark portion of the event. The illuminated Capture the Flag equipment gives the later rounds a completely different atmosphere and changes how players see the field, their teammates, and their opponents. The exact timing and format of the glow portion may be adjusted depending on daylight, weather, field conditions, visibility, attendance, and safety considerations. **What to Wear & Bring** Please come dressed for an active outdoor game. Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to run, stop, turn, and move freely. Your red or blue scrimmage pinnie will be worn over your clothing. Secure athletic shoes or other closed-toe footwear suitable for running are strongly recommended. Please avoid loose accessories, jewelry, footwear, or clothing that could create a tripping hazard or interfere with safe movement. Bring your own water and stay hydrated throughout the event. Sunscreen is recommended for the earlier portion of the afternoon, and you may want to bring a light jacket or extra layer for later in the evening. The $0 cover fee applies only to participation in the event. Food, beverages, transportation, parking, and other personal expenses are not included. **Code of Conduct** Please treat every participant with courtesy, respect, and good sportsmanship. This is a recreational social event. Competitive play is welcome. Hostile, abusive, or inappropriate behavior is not. Verbal abuse, harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, discriminatory remarks, sexually inappropriate behavior, unwanted physical contact, deliberately aggressive play, or conduct that makes another participant feel unsafe or unwelcome will not be tolerated. Physical contact must remain limited to the light tagging necessary for normal game play. Do not grab, restrain, tackle, shove, push, trip, deliberately collide with, or inappropriately touch another participant. Respect personal boundaries. If another participant asks you to stop a particular behavior or interaction, stop immediately. Participants are also expected to follow reasonable instructions involving safety, equipment, field boundaries, and game rules. Anyone engaging in unsafe, aggressive, disruptive, harassing, or inappropriate conduct may be removed from a round or asked to leave the event. Play hard. Play fair. Treat people well. **Physical Activity & Participant Responsibility** Capture the Flag is a physically active recreational activity. Participation may involve running, sprinting, sudden stops, rapid changes in direction, uneven outdoor terrain, slips, trips, falls, accidental contact with other participants, and exposure to changing environmental conditions. Each participant is responsible for determining whether they are physically capable of participating and whether a particular activity is appropriate for their own health, ability, experience, and comfort level. Participants should remain aware of other people, terrain, field conditions, obstacles, weather, lighting, equipment, and surrounding conditions. Do not participate in any movement or activity that you believe exceeds your physical ability or presents an unacceptable risk to you. Participation is entirely voluntary. **Assumption of Risk & Liability Disclaimer** By attending and voluntarily participating in this event, each participant acknowledges that Capture the Flag is a physical recreational activity involving inherent and foreseeable risks of injury. Such risks may include, without limitation, slips, trips, falls, collisions, cuts, bruises, strains, sprains, fractures, and other physical injuries resulting from running, outdoor terrain, equipment, weather, field conditions, accidental contact, the conduct of other participants, or other ordinary risks associated with recreational activity. Each participant knowingly and voluntarily assumes the ordinary and inherent risks associated with participation. Participants are responsible for their own physical condition, personal safety, actions, decisions, belongings, transportation, and participation. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, participants agree to release and hold harmless the event organizer from claims arising from the ordinary and inherent risks associated with voluntary participation in this recreational activity. Hello fellow gamers! Sunny Saturdays are the best days for a multi-hour RPG or a friendship ruining card game! Sip on fresh brew and nibble on your favorite morning pastry while the sun’s rays reveal the path to undeniable victory! This event is for those who never needed a screen to game. Bring your favorite board game or card game and we’ll bring ours with the coffee and dairy-free creamer. The host will be providing various games like: Rivals of Catan, Taco-Cat-Goat-Cheese-Pizza, Cards Against Humanity, Side Effects, Pictionary, and more! In addition to snacks, participants are encouraged to bring their favorite games to share! Anyone who brings a game to share with guests is encouraged to establish their own rules for the safe handling of their items and all guests are expected to respect and abide by those rules. **RSVP Policy:** 15-participant maximum. No admission fee, donations appreciated. One guest is allowed per RSVP. The Santa Monica Go Club's 2026 Coffee Cup tournament is on! This is an AGA rated tournament. All skill levels are welcome, but players must have a current (paid-to-date) AGA membership or AGA Tournament Pass to participate. Pre-registration closes on Friday 18 September at 11:59pm. Late registration opens at midnight after pre-registration closes and will remain open through Saturday. First round pairings will be set Friday night. Late registration and drop-in players are allowed, but might not be paired for the first round.
