Long Form Night - Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup - Thursdays at Gresso's!

Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you were quoted in *Truth in Comedy*, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**! Tonight's a special one; this is "Long form" night! Most nights here at Improv Meetup, we play "short form" games, where the host has established rules that the players must adhere to. These scenes frequently do not tell a connected story and are focused on following those rules; games such as "Alphabet Game" where every next sentence needs to start with the next letter of the alphabet, or "Interrogation" where it's a guessing game. Tonight is focused on "long form", where we will see groups of people come up and do a sort of improvised play. There may be rules to the structure itself to adhere to, or it may be more free form, but doing this allows players to establish a shared world, and to establish characters and callbacks. While your average game may last 2-3 minutes, a long form set may last longer, and have 4+ people involved. Loony Thursday: COYOTE VS ACME at Lennox Phoenix Theater!

Join us as we get together to see the live-action animated legal comedy, COYOTE VS ACME! The film follows Wile E. Coyote as he enlists a billboard attorney to sue the Acme Corporation for repeatedly selling him faulty products. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: After every product made by the Acme Corporation has backfired on Wile E. Coyote in his pursuit of the Road Runner, down-and-out human billboard attorney represents Wile E. in a lawsuit against Acme. The film is directed by Dave Green and stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, Luis Guzmán, P.J. Byrne, Kenneth Choi and John Cena. Acme" by Ian Frazier. Development for the film began in 2018, it was filmed in 2022 and scheduled for a 2023 release! But, after completion, Warner Brothers decided to shelve it for a tax write-off! Yikes! But, public backlash and demand caused a change of heart. It was made available for other distributors and a smaller company (Ketchup Entertainment) acquired the film and is releasing it to theaters! Contra dance with Big Scioty on Sept. 5 - First Congregational Church

Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. Cinema Columbus 2026: Sightlines: Documentary Shorts at the Gateway Film Center!

NOTE: This will be an UNHOSTED EVENT. This is just being listed as a fun opportunity to see some great short docs and support this Cinema Columbus event. But, I have a conflict on this day/time, so I’m only 50-50 if I’ll be able to make it. (If I am able to make it, you’ll see me there!) The Cinema Columbus event is now in its 5th year, but this will be the FIRST time the Movie Group will attend! The festival features over 75 feature length and short films shown at a variety of Columbus locations. A filmmaker is invited to document her friend’s seemingly idyllic life on an intergenerational farm, but the act of filming becomes entangled with the farm community’s unraveling.
