Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup at Gresso's!
Thu, Sep 3, 11:00 PMWhether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you were quoted in *Truth in Comedy*, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**! The idea behind improvised comedy is to create entire scenes from scratch. A suggestion is taken from the audience and laughter is built on the spot. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway, Make Some Noise,* or *Wild 'n Out*; it can also be done in a longer way, to tell a complicated story, like *TJ & Dave*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and FREE!) weekly comedy event, brings the games for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Afterward, many members will hang out in *Gresso's* itself and get to know each other. Not only is this a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, your public speaking, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and build relationships that will last a lifetime, and you do that while laughing your butt off! Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "*Yes, And*" that you'll have a blast!

Long Form Night - Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup - Thursdays at Gresso's!
Thu, Sep 17, 11:00 PMWhether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you were quoted in *Truth in Comedy*, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**! Tonight's a special one; this is "Long form" night! Most nights here at Improv Meetup, we play "short form" games, where the host has established rules that the players must adhere to. These scenes frequently do not tell a connected story and are focused on following those rules; games such as "Alphabet Game" where every next sentence needs to start with the next letter of the alphabet, or "Interrogation" where it's a guessing game. Tonight is focused on "long form", where we will see groups of people come up and do a sort of improvised play. There may be rules to the structure itself to adhere to, or it may be more free form, but doing this allows players to establish a shared world, and to establish characters and callbacks. While your average game may last 2-3 minutes, a long form set may last longer, and have 4+ people involved. This may be a more complicated night, but we will make sure you feel supported to try this out. Loony Thursday: COYOTE VS ACME at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Thu, Sep 3, 9:30 PMJoin us as we get together to see the live-action animated legal comedy, COYOTE VS ACME! The film follows Wile E. Coyote as he enlists a billboard attorney to sue the Acme Corporation for repeatedly selling him faulty products. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: After every product made by the Acme Corporation has backfired on Wile E. Coyote in his pursuit of the Road Runner, down-and-out human billboard attorney represents Wile E. in a lawsuit against Acme. The film is directed by Dave Green and stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, Luis Guzmán, P.J. Byrne, Kenneth Choi and John Cena. TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu-4SgTw73M BUZZ & REVIEWS: Reviews have been stellar, with the film earning an incredible 95% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it, “a hilarious delight” and “a clever and madcap underdog saga!” It’s “equal parts heart and wily humor,” “a loving tribute to the most hapless of all Looney Tunes characters” and to the delight/surprise of many, also “a superb piece of filmmaking!” COYOTE VS ACME’S LONG WAY TO THE THEATER: The film is based on the 1990 The New Yorker magazine article "Coyote v. Acme" by Ian Frazier. Development for the film began in 2018, it was filmed in 2022 and scheduled for a 2023 release! But, after completion, Warner Brothers decided to shelve it for a tax write-off! Yikes! But, public backlash and demand caused a change of heart. It was made available for other distributors and a smaller company (Ketchup Entertainment) acquired the film and is releasing it to theaters! It screened it to positive reviews at this year’s Comic-Con and on September 3rd it makes its way to the CMG Calendar! PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 7:00pm showing and meet in the lobby area between 6:40 and 6:50pm! Advance ticket purchase is advised. Once you have yours, please list your seat number in the Comments below! Pre-show Happy Hour at nearby BRAVO! We’ll meet in the Bar Area starting at 5:30pm! CMG Pro Tip: If you can, bring cash for a quick/easy exit! Look forward to seeing you there, Dan

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Sept. 5 - First Congregational Church
Sat, Sep 5, 11:30 PM**Caller: River Abel** **Band: Raven & Goose** **Big Scioty Contra Dance** **First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
