You can come at any time!** 1.) 18:45 - 19:00: Gathering at the meeting spot (see gmaps link and photo!). 2.) 19:00 - 19:30: Walk & Talk to the Kerb food court. 3.) 19:30 - 22:00 p.m.: Immerse conversations in the Kerb food hall. 🪑: Reserved tables for the meetup. 🍬: Free sweets for everyone on the attending list. 🧛optional: Dress up as anything you want and win special prices through my game. A collaborating venue where you can further socialize with other members\. *** Whenever you attend a meetup, the most common as well as first question you get is: "Where are you from?" You probably heard this question a million times. Well, at least I did. From my own experience of attending over 200 international meetups in various countries such as Germany, Japan, Australia and Thailand, I can tell you that asking for the name is a better approach. “A person’s name is to that person, the sweetest, most important sound in any language.” - Dale Carnegie If you really want to connect with like-minded people you should remember their name, but you don't have to remember every persons name you've talked you. Be picky about that, don't be me who can somehow remember everyones name easily. Don't tell yourself sth. like "I'm bad at remembering names." It's all about developing the habit of asking for a name and keep the conversation going on. Furthermore, you want to learn German or any other language. Learning the local language is crucial to connect with the locals and developing a true friendship. This can be accomplished with immersion. My goal is to inspire you to go out of your comfort zone and improve yourself each time you join this meetup.
English Book Club: Mother Mary Comes to Me by Arundhati Roy 📚
Sat, Nov 7, 5:00 PMLast month, 18 of us gathered around Han Kang's *The Vegetarian* for one of our liveliest discussions yet. Thank you to everyone who came! In November we take a bold step: our fiction book club reads a memoir by one of the great novelists of our time. **The book** In *Mother Mary Comes to Me*, Arundhati Roy, the Booker Prize-winning author of *The God of Small Things*, tells the story of her mother, Mary Roy. Mary was a brilliant, restless and formidable woman. She founded a school in Kerala and won a landmark legal battle for women's inheritance rights in India. She was also a mother who could be both a refuge and a storm. Roy writes about how her mother shaped her into the writer she became, and how that same mother came to resent it. The result is a portrait of two extraordinary women and of a love that is fierce, complicated and never simple. It is also, surprisingly, very funny. The memoir has been one of the most talked-about books of the past year: * National Book Critics Circle Award (biography) * One of The New York Times' 10 Best Books of 2025 * Shortlisted for the 2026 Women's Prize for Non-Fiction **Why read it together?** Everyone has a mother story.
