🥾 Hike & Reflect Hiking together, spending time outdoors, having good conversations and simply seeing what develops along the way. We usually meet on Saturday mornings and explore beautiful hiking routes around Berlin that are easy to reach by regional train or public transport. Most hikes take around 4–5 hours and cover approximately 15–20 km. 🌿 What happens along the way From time to time, I will bring in reflection questions, conversation prompts or simple exercises. Sometimes we might practise really listening to each other, explore a personal question, look at something from a different perspective or simply experience nature more consciously. We might also try a short partner exercise or walk a small section with our eyes closed. Everything is optional. You are just as welcome to come along, enjoy the landscape, meet new people and be part of the group without joining every exercise or conversation. 💬 The coaching element I am a certified systemic coach with around 12 years of corporate experience. I bring some of my coaching background into the questions, exercises and overall structure of the hikes. At the same time, this is not about me coaching everyone. The idea is to create a space where people can learn from each other, share experiences, listen properly and discover new perspectives through conversation. I provide a few impulses and a loose framework. The group creates the rest. 🤝 What Hike & Reflect is about Movement, nature, meeting people and having conversations that we often do not make enough time for in everyday life. Sometimes the conversations may become thoughtful, sometimes they will be light and funny, and sometimes we may simply walk next to each other for a while. We will see what happens. 👟 Who is it for? Just in time for Halloween, we’re heading to one of the eeriest lost places in Brandenburg: the abandoned **Grabowsee sanatorium**. Hidden in the forest by a quiet lake, this former lung clinic has stood empty for decades. Its crumbling red-brick wards, ivy-covered facades and silent corridors are so cinematic they’ve been used as a film set for horror movies and Hollywood blockbusters, including *The Monuments Men*. Late October is the ideal time to visit Andalusia. Daytime temperatures sit comfortably between 22°C and 28°C, the Mediterranean is still warm enough for swimming, and the dense summer crowds have finally gone home. The amazing weather is just the start. What surprises most people is the dramatic landscape. The **Sierra Nevada**, mainland Spain’s highest mountain range, is just 45 minutes from Granada. This means we can hike at an altitude of 3,000 meters in the morning and be back in the city for tapas by evening. An hour south, the mountains plunge straight into the sea. The coastline east of **Málaga** is a protected stretch of cliffs and coves where we’ll kayak into sea caves beneath the Maro cliffs and swim under a waterfall that drops directly into the Mediterranean. Very few places in Europe let you experience both environments in the same week. When it comes to food, **Granada** is one of the last cities in Spain where every drink arrives with a complimentary plate of food, naturally turning dinner into a relaxed crawl from bar to bar. One evening, we’ll head to the Albaicín for flamenco to experience it in an authentic, intimate tablao. Woven through all of this is a history completely unlike the rest of Europe. Eight centuries of Moorish rule left behind masterpieces like the Alhambra in Granada and the Real Alcázar in **Seville**. These palaces are defined by open courtyards, running water channels, intricately carved plaster, and gardens designed specifically for shade and quiet. The palace on one side, the Sierra Nevada behind it, and the whole of Granada below. **Sierra Nevada High-Altitude Hike:** Mainland Spain's highest mountain range, and a scenic loop above the tree line at over 2,500 metres. Roughly three hours at an easy pace with plenty of stops. **Sea Kayaking the Maro Cliffs:** Three hours on the water along a protected stretch of the Costa del Sol, paddling into sea caves and stopping at a beach you cannot reach on foot. The highlight is the waterfall that drops straight off the cliff into the sea, and yes, you can swim under it. **The Real Alcázar & Seville Cathedral:** A working royal palace built by Moorish craftsmen for Christian kings, with gardens that take an hour on their own. Next door, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the Giralda tower. **Granada's Free Tapas**: Granada is one of the last cities in Spain where a drink still comes with a plate of food, no charge. In the afternoon we walk the historic centre, then climb through the Alcazaba fortress and up the connecting path to Gibralfaro castle for sunset over the port. **Day 2 - Granada, Alhambra & Albaicín** Morning check out of our Málaga accomodation and trip to Granada. Walking city tour, visiting the cathedral, the Royal Chapel and the centre. In the afternoon we climb through the Albaicín, the old Moorish quarter, into the Alhambra grounds, and finish at Mirador de San Miguel Alto for sunset. After dark, a guided tapas crawl. **Day 3 - Sierra Nevada High-Altitude Hike** We drive up a mountain road into mainland Spain's highest range. The hike is a scenic loop above 2000m altitude, around three hours at an easy pace with plenty of photo stops. In the evening, we attend a flamenco performance at Zoraya Flamenco in the Albaicín, one of Granada's best-known venues, for a traditional Andalusian night of live music, singing and dance. **Day 4 - Nerja, Sea Kayak & Trip to Seville** Three hours on the Mediterranean sea, paddling into sea caves and along the Maro cliffs to a breathtaking waterfall. Lunch in Nerja, then a short walk on the clifftop coastal path before the drive west to Seville. **Day 5 - Seville, the Alcázar & the Cathedral** We visit the Real Alcázar, then the cathedral and the Giralda tower. A long lunch in Barrio Santa Cruz, then Plaza de España and Parque de María Luisa in the late afternoon, when the light is best. **Day 6 - Seville Traditional Market & Departures** Breakfast, then an optional walk through the Mercado de Triana and along the river. Whether you've never exercised before or you're looking for a new challenge, this class is designed to help you build strength and confidence at your own pace. Hi, I'm Maroof 👋 I've been practicing calisthenics for over six years and one of the things I love most about it is that it brings people together. Watching people achieve movements they never thought possible, whether it's their first push-up, their first pull-up or their first handstand, is incredibly rewarding. What to expect Each session includes a guided warm-up, beginner-friendly strength exercises using your bodyweight, progressions for pushing, pulling, squatting and core strength, optional introductions to calisthenics skills as you progress and a fun team game at the end (with a small prize for the winners 😁) Every exercise has easier and harder variations so you can work at a level that suits you. There is no pressure to keep up with anyone else. ## 🌲 Märkische Schweiz & Buckow Hi everyone! 👋 Our next hike takes us **east of Berlin into the beautiful Märkische Schweiz**, following the valley of the Stobber and exploring a wonderfully varied landscape of **fields, forests, moors and lakes**. We’ll start in **Müncheberg** and walk through a small village and open fields before heading into the forest and moorland. Along the way, we’ll pass the **Großer Klobichsee**, continue through another stretch of moor and forest, and eventually reach **Tornowsee**. From there, we’ll make our way towards our final destination: the picturesque little town of **Buckow**. We should arrive in Buckow around **2 pm**, even if we take the hike at a relaxed pace. This gives us plenty of options for the afternoon: we can have lunch in one of the local restaurants, stop for coffee and cake, explore the **Schlosspark** (sadly, the castle itself is no longer there), or simply catch a bus back towards Berlin. ### 🚆 Meeting & route We’ll meet at **8:20 am at Lichtenberg station, Platform 15**. Our train leaves at **8:38 am** and takes us directly to **Müncheberg (Markt)**, arriving at **9:13 am**. From there, we’ll start walking. The hike will be roughly **19 km** and will take us through a mix of open landscape, forest, moorland and lakeside paths before finishing in Buckow. For the return journey, buses from Buckow to Müncheberg leave at approximately **2:15, 3:15 and 4:15 pm**. From Müncheberg, we’ll take the train back to Berlin; the journey to Lichtenberg takes a little over an hour. Sunset is shortly before **5 pm**, so we’ll make sure we’re heading back in good time. ### 🥾 A few things to keep in mind **Late October can be wet**, especially in the moor and forest sections, so please check the weather forecast and come prepared. **Good, comfortable hiking shoes with decent grip are strongly recommended.** Please also bring **enough water and some food/snacks** to keep your energy levels up. We’ll take a snack break somewhere along the route, but there won’t be anywhere to buy food or drinks during the hike. As always, the idea is to **walk, talk and connect** — so don’t worry about setting a speed record. 😊 Looking forward to seeing you on the trail! 🌿🥾
