CARS AND ART, presented by Drawing LA and Leen Customs! LIGHT INSTRUCTION ONLY (this is a session, not a class). Hosted by Cynthia Halley & Omar Rehman For car enthusiasts and artists alike! This is a chance to draw unique vehicles in a casual, controlled, and chill environment, with cool people and no pressure. Think figure drawing sessions - but for cars! All you need is a pen or pencil and sketchpad, plus your enthusiasm. No prior experience or knowledge necessary. We will have 1 or two vehicles available to draw per session. Your hosts are Cynthia Halley (Marvel’s What If & Zombies, SpiderVerse) and Omar Rehman (HotWheels, Ford, Nasa). Cynthia & Omar will be on hand to socialize and answer basic questions about drawing techniques and the cars themselves. Why join us? Car shows are tons of fun with tons of great cars to draw, but they can be hot, loud, and tiring. There’s no one guiding the mission, and somebody always stands exactly in your view! Drawing LA & Leen Customs want to provide artists and enthusiasts a chance to draw and and study cars in a comfortable, intimate setting, where you can actually relax, get a little feedback if you want it, and enjoy the company of other likeminded creative folks. Leen Customs is a fun and spunky space in LA’s Car District, perfect for drawing and hanging out. Picture a clean and comfortable indoor garage that opens up to the outdoors, with a lift for the car so we can look underneath, a ramp walkway with two levels for different viewing angles, a gift shop area, and private restroom. Keep in mind this is a LIGHTLY instructed event. Cynthia & Omar will NOT be giving full instruction, but are happy to answer casual questions. October 31, 10 a.m. We will take a walk and you will see the woods that are used to make the most basic methods of fire-production: The bow and drill, and the hand drill. You will also see flint and steel. You will learn by doing. You will work to make an ember, and you will learn which woods are best, and how to process your woods. A short walk included to see which plants are best for your fire-making kit. This is a timeless bushcraft skill. We expect that each person will be able to collect and process most of your kit during this class. You will learn this fundamental bushcraft skill by doing! An excellent overall survival skill, since fire is at the very heart of survival: signalling, purifying water, cooking, etc. BONUS: Once we make a fire, we’ll cook some wild foods at the grill for each of you to try. October 29 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm $30.00 – $45.00 October 29, noon Getting around accurately is a valuable survival skill! Sometimes you have a compass and map, and sometimes you don’t. In this two-hour class, you’ll learn how to construct a sun compass, and how you can use that to tell direction and time. This sun compass is nearly as accurate as your magnetized compass, and the “clock” is more accurately telling you local solar time — good enough for general purposes. You’ll also learn some natural methods of telling direction, which are ages-old observations. You’ll learn which are worth remembering, and which are “old husband’s tales.” We’ll also address how to identify constellations for telling directions, and how to navigate with only a compass. So bring your compass. What we cover in our short time will depend upon how much time everyone needs to grasp the concepts. Location 2, Hahamongna Watershed Park.

FRIDAY--Easy Night walk around Silverlake

Silverlake can be quite beautiful at night. Walk is mostly easy 2.2 miles RT around the lake. Walk is approx. 1 hour. There is short uphill on this walk--approx. 10 minutes Some members go to the local Oyster bar afterwards. **Rain will cancel walk. Dogs ok as long as on leash.** Parking: Street parking. There is more parking when you park along the lake --along W. Silverlake Dr.

OG Toluca Lake 5 mile-ish urban Halloween adventure walk!!!

Back for our 5th year !!! The Urban-ish Adventurists which includes legendary walkers Lori and Joe (legends in their own minds) collectively known as "JOLO” invite you to explore a Halloween adventure in Toluca Lake. We will be doing a 5 mile-ish walk around Toluca Lake and surrounding areas . Great selection of houses by this time . Come out early to beat the crowds . Make sure you join us for a Toluca lake or Burbank seasonal walk as they are historically best Halloween houses in the City. We do our best to keep the walk in a 2 hour range, however could go longer by a mile or so and sometimes goes over time posted. Comfortable shoes, water, flashlight and a good attitude are suggested items to bring but not required. Remember it is suggested you get a minimum 10,000 steps a day. We can all achieve that healthy goal together. We help motivate each other. Come out to walk and socialize with nice friendly people and experience a good workout at the same time. Hope to see you at our next urban-ish walking adventure. We appreciate our regular walkers and always encourage new walkers to give our walk a shot. **MEETING LOCATION:** Tables/benches near the parking lot exit in front of the baseball/softball field **TOTAL DISTANCE**: We try to keep it to 5 miles but sometimes, we go over by a bit (mostly flat) **GUESTS**: Attendees are welcome to bring a guest (dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash) **LIABILITY WAIVER**: The organizer(s) is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. Bear Canyon Trail Maintenance

This is a great opportunity to combine your love of the outdoors with the gratification of making a significant contribution to the environment. Hike will be 8.5 mile loop hike with 600' gain on return with many stream crossings going in from Eaton Saddle and out from Switzer Day-use Area. Work will focus on cutting back brush and fixing tread. Pants & long-sleeved shirt, good boots/hiking shoes are required. Hard hat, gloves and safety glasses can be provided. Please be sure to bring plenty of water and your lunch.
