Pitch Your Friend - Southbank

Dating in 2026 can be hard. Who *doesn’t* have app fatigue? Join us at Brasserie Blanc on the Southbank for an IRL dating experience like no other. In this event, you’ll get a chance to pitch your friend to a room full of awesome other singles. All tickets come with a glass of prosecco on arrival. **If you’re pitching:** all you need to do is create a 3-5 minute slide deck (Google Slides, PowerPoint - whatever you prefer) that shows off all the best things about your friend. You’ll then need to take to the mic and give your pitch to the room. You might just be playing cupid! We will have time for mingling in the break and after the pitches - so plenty of time to work your charm if someone catches your eye. **Not pitching?** No worries - there are plenty of spots in the audience and you’ll still get to join in with the mingling of course. **Doors will open at 7PM with the presentations starting from about 8PM.** **Key info for pitchers:** Please arrive at the venue close to 7PM so we can introduce you to the equipment and run through any issues You can make your presentations in a range of formats (Canvas, PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides). The White Cliffs of Dover : My favourite hike: Dover to Deal& a SWIM

Alright guys, some of you have asked me to do it again as it is my most popular and one of my most beautiful hikes, so here we go! I am taking you again to hike the White cliffs, my top number 1 hike. This hike is always full and there is a reason to this, it is just a fantastic place and one of the most beautiful in England. And as for now, it is supposed to be a sunny day! One of Britain's most popular locations and a well known view from the mainland tourists who travel through the English Channel from France, Belgium or the Netherlands . The chalk cliffs between Dover and Deal are a stunning location with some marvellous Sea views and seaside towns . You will see castles, beaches and will cross path with its inhabitants, the ravens, peregrine falcons or long eared owls if we are lucky. We have also been lucky a couple of times with the visit of harbour porpoises and Common dolphins who often swim along the coast. The landscapes are some of my favourite, and this trail is a feel good hike where you will be able to see the white and grey cliffs of France just across the sea on a clear day once we have reached the cliff top. We will have a proper break on the beach at St Margaret Bay where you could grab a hotdogs, ice cream or a pint of beer in the pub that is the closest to mainland Europe... As always, we will hike, we will laugh and we are likely to end the trip at a restaurant afterwards, so get ready for a lovely day out with stunning views! The North Devon weekend: Hartland& the Valley of Rocks

BOOKING IS NOW OPEN! Please join us on this beautiful trip. As this is far from London, I will only be taking 5 people with me on a first come , fist serve basis. Come and join me on my top most beautiful coastal hike in a ,still wild, and preserved coastaline just above the far too busy Corwall, the coast of North Devon. We will begin our trip after work with a train journey to our hotel for a good rest before the next 2 days of an incredible beauties. This trip is my most successful ever and people still talk to me about it to this day and I have not been in 5 years so it is time to get my hiking boots back on and travel back to the most perfected hiking weekend one can dream of ! Day 1: We will meet at Paddington station at 5 pm so please ensure you spoke to work in order to finish early, if you miss the train, you will have to buy a new train ticket and make your own way and it will be pricy! I recommend to take some diner with you as the train jourbey takes just under 4 hours and we won't have time to eat there. Day 2: This is where the fun begins, we will get on the first morning bus that will take us straight to my big number 1 hike! The Hartland and the incredible Speke Mill Waterfall, we will hike the whole day from cliff top to hidden beaches, through ancient monasteries and the heather should be covering the hills and clifftop given this rugged landscape a purple blanket like no others. We will then go back for a pub diner or some vegetarian options over there or near our hotel, depending on what the group prefers. I will also try to give you some time for a swim to complete the day in the best possible way. Day 3: Lynton and Lynmouth and the Valley of the rocks. Our last hiking day of the week will take place about half an hour from our hotel in another stunning village of England, people talk about the Cotswolds, sorry but I prefer North Devon's villages a lot more! We will have a mixture of clifftop walks and woodlands surrounded by wild goats that will be staring at us, strange bipedal beings who like to have a stroll around their gorgeous homes. We will then head back to Barnstaple to grab a take away for our journey back to Londinium, our mind filled with all the beauties that we will have taken in... Join Flamsteed (other group) Saturday evening observing (Blackheath)

Flamsteed is a formal (famous!) astronomy society based in Greenwich that runs regular events. This is one of their stargazing observing meets thats open to the public (not all are), on Blackheath Common. **Weather may alter plans** to Sunday if not good enough ([See their public events list](https://www.flamsteed.info/public-events)), but it will be on Saturday or fallback to Sunday evening (if not cancelled) depending on the best forecast viewing. So **DO** double check the event schedule on their website (or Facebook event) in the day or so ahead - or their [twitter](https://twitter.com/Flamsteed)(X)/[facebook](https://www.facebook.com/FlamsteedAS) to see whether Friday or Saturday is chosen - weather can cause cancellations! Show up with or without a telescope/binoculars/other equipment; its usually been a smaller crowd of a handful of people, especially on the coldest nights, and just occasionally (in my experience/what I've heard) not quite as friendly to newcomers/minority groups, but there are also likely to be some very knowledgeable people there who've been committed amateur (or even pro) astronomers for a while. They're further East than we usually meet, but still our side of the river so I will post their events sometimes, when open to the public (many of their other events are members-only). These meetings are usually attended by several of their members and others, who bring telescopes and binoculars along and are generally keen to share views through them/explain what you can see. A few of their members are also members of this group. To find out more about the society and joining to gain access to other events and their member benefits (including loan equipment I believe), see their [website](https://www.flamsteed.info). **Getting there** The meeting point is just round the corner on the grass next to Prince Charles Street/off Talbot Street (they have a page [about it](https://www.flamsteed.info/blackheath-observing)). \* Public Transport/Walking Nearest train stop: Blackheath station; only a 5-10minute walk to the meet location up the hill a bit and onto the common (turn left out of the station). \* Driving? Parking might be available on (or near) Prince Charles Street. Try not to blind the group with your headlights as you approach, it takes minutes to build up good night vision but less than a second to ruin it. Beware parking restrictions for the residential area, Talbot Place is a cul-de-sac and there is a barrier restricting vehicle access to some parts. **To expect once there** In good weather, you can expect anywhere from a handful to around 10 (bit of a guess) telescopes of many shapes and sizes set up, all with owners keen to share views and to learn from each other. Ask and they will usually be only too happy to explain what to expect or what each tool is best for. There'll be some binoculars, astro-photography too occasionally, people from beginners to (often) experts in at least one subject area. Ask nicely and join queues if they form around the more impressive scopes. If unfamiliar/first time, ask for advice to get the best use (eg. firstly: don't touch the scope at all, as a tiny jog will make the view shimmy around for a few seconds - just hold your eye next to the eyepiece, you might need to move your eye around a bit to find the view; ask/find owner if view empty/seems out of focus - keep your fingers off any glass and don't try to clean/wipe anything). **The Organisers** Flamsteed run this event, who are a proper astronomical society; I (your meetup group organiser, John) may sometimes also attend their meetings, but you should not rely on finding me there. Its not as well attended as the Baker Street Irregulars group in Regents Park, but there are a higher ratio of serious astronomers and astrophotographers in the group (due to requiring a subscription). **Why Go?** More of a trek than our own meets, the skies here are quite clear, a reasonable horizon. There are often very experienced astronomers attending, but numbers vary. You can find out more about the Flamsteed society from its members. There's always at least a handful of people and scopes there. Another great way to learn more and find out what sort of equipment different people have and why/how they use it, and to compare views. Dress warmly (warmer than you expect, if you're not used to standing still in big open spaces with clear skies for an hour or two at night), maybe bring a flask of hot drink. Guidance provided! No telescope/binoculars? There are usually several telescopes/binoculars that members/attendees will share views through and explain if asked. Blackdown - Highest Point of The South Downs National Park | 29km (18mi)

📈 **Grade: 🥾🥾🥾🥾 Level 4/5** —— 📖 **ABOUT:** **The highest point in the whole South Downs National Park** is not chalk downland at all. It is **Blackdown: 280m** of gorse, heather and silver birch, ancient sunken lanes worn deep over thousands of years, and a view so good that Tennyson built a house below it and stayed for the last 24 years of his life. We start and finish at Haslemere station, direct from Waterloo, and take the long way round: 29km (18mi) and 646m of ascent through ancient woodland, along the River Lod and over Green Hill, with the Temple of the Winds, a curved stone seat in a spot with a real secret feel, as the quiet centrepiece of the day. City Island and Bow Creek Ecology Park, 3 miles

* We will meet outside the Canning Town tube station to explore this part of the Lea Valley. Please take the lift to your left as you exit. * City Island is a new regeneration project in Docklands but it also contains the London’s only lighthouse. Built in 1864-66, the purpose of the lighthouse was originally as a testing venue for new types of lamps and lighthouse technology. * At one time even Michael Faraday, one of the most influential scientists of all time, carried out experiments in the lighthouse. In fact, Faraday’s only invention ever to be patented – a new type of chimney designed to stop lamp gases combusting – was designed in this very place. * Also within the lighthouse is situated the Longplayer. Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. * Wonderful photo-opps with a number of unusual sculptures in situ. We will then make our way via the East India Dock to arrive to arrive at Bow Creek Ecology Park and finish our walk at the Canning Town tube station. Optional drinks/lunch at the local pub after the walk. What to bring: Comfortable footwear Water Photo-taking gadgets and chargers An umbrella just in case (it's London after all) The walk is free for members who have subscribed for an annual membership.
