NYCYDC - Monthly Competitive Swiss Tournament

Duelists, prepare for battle! NYCYDC presents its own monthly competitive Swiss tournament to give members a feel of what it’s like to partake in locals, Regionals and even YCS! These tournaments are far from casual as duelists will bring their very best and strongest decks to compete. A test of skills and wit, expect a tough competition. These monthly tournaments will follow advanced format rules such as 50 minute matches and double loss time rules. Official tournament start time will be 3:30pm. Arrive early to prepare! Rules: 1. As per tournament rules, you must play 1 deck from start to finish. Switching decks will result in a penalty such as a game loss. Failure to comply will result in a disqualification from the tournament. 2. Arrive on time and be ready for your match! If you are not present for the first 5 minutes of your match you will receive a game loss. After 10 minutes you will receive a match loss. Time is sacred! 3. Sportsmanship and respect is mandatory. If we receive complaints of disrespect and misconduct you will receive a warning. A second offense will result in a disqualification. 4. There will be judge(s) present. Any conflict at during a match or question must be resolved with a judge. 5. Double loss will be applied. If a match winner has not been decided and declared by the end of the timer, both players will receive a double loss. 6. Slow play of any kind will not be tolerated. If you believe your opponent is slow playing, don’t hesitate! Call the judge! A judge will deal with the matter at hand. 7. Focus on your match! No devices should be present unless it’s to count LP! Don’t distract other duelists from their match as well. 8. No backseat dueling or request for assistance! Learn your deck and play on your own! If we catch you asking for advice you will receive a warning. The most important rule of any tournament is to have fun! IMPORTANT: Respect your RSVP! You must RSVP in order to participate. If you show up you’re expected to participate as a player.

Sunday Gaming at Mangia Bene - Great Neck UPDATE)

**Please note: This event that was originally scheduled to take place at Ben's Deli in the Bay Terrace shopping center has been moved to Mangia Bene in Great Neck. Please do NOT report to Ben's Deli.** Welcome to the Queens Board Games meetup group. This group is for those who live in Queens County along with surrounding sections of the New York metro area who are interested in board gaming. **Note:** Currently, there are multiple sections within this group which meet at various locations. **Please be sure to RSVP for the correct section.** **This section will meet at Mangia Bene in Great Neck from 2 to 8 PM.** **VENUE AND TIME ALLOTTED** **Mangia Bene is an Italian restaurant located at 624 Middle Neck Road in Great Neck. For those who drive, it is best to park in the municipal parking lot located diagonally across from the venue (the street parking in front of the venue is for 90 minutes and applies to Sundays as well). For those commuting by bus, the N58 bus line stops nearby.** Members arrive and leave at various times, therefore there is no obligation to stay for the entire time allotted. It is encouraged to post in the Comments section what time you plan on arriving/leaving. **PROTOCOL** **This venue is a place of business willing and able to accommodate our group. The minimum spending requirement is $25 – if attendees spend less than this amount, the staff will automatically charge $25. In addition, since we are receiving waiter service, a 15% gratuity will be added to your bill.** Please RSVP responsibly. If your status changes, please update accordingly. Providing the estimated time frame you plan on arriving within and any other updates here on the message board is appreciated as well. **WHAT TO EXPECT** If you're looking for a fun and friendly group of people to play a variety of games with, join us for a Sunday meetup at Mangia Bene in Great Neck. **Newcomers are always welcome!** Growing up, most of us played children's games (ex: Candyland, Sorry, Connect Four) and classic games (ex: Checkers, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly). Gaming has truly evolved since then, with an increase in volume of games/categories created along with an increase in complexity and sophistication of rules and strategies. These "modern games" involve a whole other world that you may never heard of, however there will be others who will bring these games and teach you (see list below - you can also go to YouTube to preview and familiarize yourself). Bringing your own games is not mandatory, however if you possess any, feel free to bring them as there are always people looking to learn something new or to find a new favorite board game. Tell the cashier that you're with “the Meetup” and they'll direct you to our tables in the back. Food and drink are available, and Hex has a large lending library you can choose from. All levels of game complexity are welcome, but we lean toward middle-to-heavy euros. Don't worry, teaching is a big part of our culture. **NEW TO THE MEETUP?** Thanks for coming! We hope you enjoy yourself. We are a social, friendly group that meets to play games. Language and behavior that is racist, sexist, ableist, ageist, and so on, is not tolerated. Bullying and bad-mouthing the other guests are also not tolerated. We're not here to debate politics, and we are not a dating service. Obviously gaming can sometimes include trash talking. Just … know if your opponents are up for that! And look, we all make mistakes -- if you’ve offended someone, an apology can go a long way. **QUESTIONS** **I’m relatively new to board gaming! Is this group for me?** Hi! Welcome to board gaming! Yes, it is. To make sure you have a great experience, please show up on time, before games get decided, and introduce yourself, telling people you’re new to gaming and what games you know and like. We were all new to gaming once, too. While most games we play are medium-to-heavy weight games, light games appear every week, so there's probably something for you. If you’re willing to stretch a bit and learn a more complex game, that’s great, as someone will almost always know how to teach it. To find out if players are willing to teach a game they’re about to start, just ask. Some experience with games like Azul, Catan, Splendor, Century Spice Road, 7 Wonders, Sagrada, etc., is helpful, but not essential. **What if I am on the waiting list?** It is rare that people on the waiting don't get seats, but it can happen. So you could just take a chance and show up. If you do show up, 1) ask employees up front if you can wait to pay (they're typically cool about that, but no promises here /shrug) and 2) come check in with us in the back. Seats for confirmed guests are held until 5:15, after which they're considered a no-show. (Unless they contact us first, or had something like an awful train ride.) Then seats are first-come first served. **Will someone teach me games if I don’t know them?** Often, yes - you just have to ask. But planning ahead can be helpful too, because that’ll give you a chance to read the rules before you come. **What do you mean by mid- and heavy-weight board games?** Some examples: Hansa Teutonica, Concordia, Keyflower, Great Western Trail, Clank!, Root, Small World, Scythe, Dinosaur Island, Terraforming Mars, Trickerion: Legends of Illusion, Kemet, Arcs, Underwater Cities, Food Chain Magnate, Indonesia, A Feast for Odin, Archipelago, Detective: City of Angels, and Tzolk'in. **Can we play *X*?** Sure! Suggest it. Make sure someone has a playable copy (you or the store), either you or someone else knows and can teach the game, and others agree to play. Games that take an exceedingly long time (4+ hours) probably won’t get picked up.
