Sydney SEO Collective - Despina Gavoyannis (From SEO Tactician to Leader)
Tue, Aug 25, 8:00 AMThe Sydney SEO Collective is back for our August 2026 meetup. This month we're talking about what it takes to move beyond SEO delivery and become the person shaping search strategy across a business. We're welcoming Despina Gavoyannis, AI Search Visibility Strategist at Ahrefs and Vivid Fish, as our keynote speaker. She'll be presenting "How to Level Up from SEO Tactician to Search Visibility Leader." Strong technical and tactical skills can build a career in SEO, but they will only take you so far. Despina will explain how to turn that expertise into strategic influence, communicate the commercial value of search and develop the skills needed to move into more senior, better-paid roles. She'll also look at what businesses need from their search teams as AI changes how people find information. That includes personalisation, keywordless discovery, conversational and spoken search, and the growing role of wearable AI. You'll leave with practical ideas you can share with your team and start using at work the next day. Despina has worked in SEO for more than 10 years, specialising in revenue-driven strategy and collaborating with UX designers, developers and marketers. Before joining Ahrefs, she worked as an SEO consultant, advising and training in-house and agency teams. Her work has helped brands generate more than $125 million in additional annual organic revenue. She is also the author of a book and two SEO courses, and has written extensively about SEO and AI search. The feedback we've had is that the Collective events have been a great way to meet others in the industry in a relaxed environment and share some tips and hints on what you might know that can help them become a better web marketer or developer. It's about asking those tough questions and getting group consensus on what is the possible implications or complications on a particular method or technique you're thinking of using. We encourage a mix of business owners, web developers, affiliate marketers, SEM and SEO professionals as we all have small tips that will help you perform better online and play smarter. SEO Collective is just a relaxed and informal session on digital and web marketing, come along and meet others in your community no matter if you're a business owner, consultant, in-house or part of a larger agency. ## RSVP now to claim your free ticket!

SSP .TUE ..CHERRY BLOSSOMS Auburn
Tue, Sep 1, 1:00 AMToday we walk the Auburn Botanical Gardens in Spring. We have timed this to avoid the endless crowds and catch the tail end of the cherry blossoms. The Azaleas and many more varieties of plants and shrubs are also photo worthy. Enjoy the later start time. If you require a morning coffee, there are a few cafes in close proximity to Auburn station. For coffee snobs, Auburn does not have a coffee culture like the CBD, but passable. We will have a quick look through the bird aviary at Auburn Botanical Gardens, then walk around the corner to the Auburn Tennis Club for lunch at noon in their bistro. After lunch we walk back to the Auburn Botanical Gardens to take images of the plants and flowers Depending on what time we decide to leave the Gardens we could stop at Auburn shopping area before catching the train home as there are many eateries and the possibility a pub. Auburn is a melting pot of cultures, Turkish, Nepalese, Pakistani, Afghani, Middle Eastern and Asian, so tasty and usually low priced. How to get There: Public Transport Meet at Stand A at Auburn Train Station for the S3 Direct bus to the Gardens departing at 11.15am. If you miss the direct S3 in the morning then catch the next 909 from the station area Stand B and tell the driver that you are going to the Gardens and get off the bus at the roundabout where Chiswick Street crosses over Cumberland Street (the bus travels along Cumberland Street). There is a coffee shop at this roundabout that has a black awning. Keeping the coffee shop on your right side, walk down Chiswick Street for 5 minutes and cross over busy Chisholm Road and you will see the Gardens in front of you and the Tennis Club is to your left on Chisholm Road (same side as the Gardens). When we get off the bus at the Gardens, walk to the Auburn Botanical Gardens bird aviary. The last direct S3 bus from the Gardens to the train leaves at 14.30 or if you want to stay longer, walk to Cumberland Road (see above directions) and catch the 909 back to Auburn Station at a time that suits. Car: Free parking at the car park or nearby streets at the Auburn Tennis Club, 181 Chisholm Rd, Auburn NSW 2144.

Note that if your question has been addressed in this description and you simply have not bothered to read it, you may not get a response. And of course you won't know that if you haven't read this, but then who's fault is that? If this all makes sense and you agree, come join us for some good wholesome fun. See you at the park! **Location:** We play in the large flat open area opposite the Kiosk/Cafe (with toilets) and children's playground.
