Front Street Block Party

From Gist IRL SF
4.7

**RSVP via:** https://app.gistirl.com/event-details/nTC9d4HUSMNAkEB99zSw **Early Bird Discounts | More $ Later** Hey block party fans, Come hang at the neighborhood block party with cold drinks, street games, and good energy. We’ll spend the first hour doing quick, app guided one on one chats to meet new people, then split into small groups to explore the festival together. The Gist IRL app pairs you for short, relaxed conversations so you can meet people one by one without the awkward mingling. Chat, laugh, and see who you click with. After the rounds, you’ll form a group of who you want to hang with. By then you’ll have a crew to play street games and explore the block party with The Plan: - 6:30PM: Check-In. Follow the link to set up your quick profile on your phone. - 6:35PM - 7:55PM: One-on-One Rounds. The app pairs you for focused chats. Find out who you click with. - 7:55PM+: Form Groups. Reconnect with your favorite matches, form a squad of 4-6, and grab drinks, play street games together, and head to a bar nearby. Let's skip the usual routine of exchanging handles and hoping to meet up someday. Instead, we're heading right out to grab drinks and play street games tonight, and you might just find your new starting lineup for future street festivals and game watch parties. Plus, when the block party winds down, you can easily keep the banter going and organize the next watch party through the app, without ever needing to hand out your actual phone number. See you all there! **RSVP via:** https://app.gistirl.com/event-details/nTC9d4HUSMNAkEB99zSw **Early Bird Discounts | More $ Later**

Better Days: A Hackathon — San Francisco

Better Days: A Hackathon — San Francisco

Fri, Aug 28, 4:00 PM
From ClickHouse Bay Area and Silicon Valley Meetup Group
4.8

RSVP here: https://luma.com/clickh-sie8 **VENUE IS 18+** Want to be a judge? Apply here, open till August 18th: [https://forms.gle/mMP7PxkFbpQ6dZby8](https://forms.gle/mMP7PxkFbpQ6dZby8?utm_source=luma) We're heading to Japantown for a full day of building, brought to you by ClickHouse! :) One day. Real problems. Real prizes. Pick a track, form a team of up to 5 (or go solo), and build something using ClickHouse + Postgres — OLAP and OLTP, like PB&J. This is an AI hackathon grounded in problems that affect everyday people: kids who can't read, adults who are lonely, a planet people want to help but don't know how. Build something someone would actually open on a hard day. Partner engineers will be at the expert bar all day to help you move fast. Breakfast, lunch, and drinks are on us. We close the night with demos, judging, and dinner together. **Four tracks to build in** **The reading crisis** Two-thirds of 4th graders read below grade level, and the kids furthest behind are falling fastest. Build the tool that helps a teacher spot who's quietly struggling, helps a student find the book they'll actually finish, or helps a library know what's working. **The loneliness epidemic** Half of American adults are lonely, and it's worse for the young. Build for the communities trying to hold people together: senior centers, campus groups, neighborhoods. **Climate action that's actually usable** People are worried and don't know what to do. Build the tool that replaces guilt with a clear next step, the rebate they didn't know existed, the local vote that actually cuts emissions, the neighborhood prep for the next heat wave. Not another carbon calculator. **Open track — your everyday crisis** Got a problem that keeps you up at night that isn't on this list? Bring it. Food access, caregiving, housing, mental health, if real people are struggling with it and a well-built tool could help, you're in the right place. **Prizes**: 🥇 Grand prize — 1k in Cash, ClickHouse Cloud credits $500 🥈 Runner-up — $500 in Cash, ClickHouse cloud credits $300 ⭐ Bonus category (Build with LibreChat) - $250 cash 🎉 Social raffle - Physical Gift, TBD **Schedule** 9:30 am — Doors open + coffee Check in, grab a drink, find your team 10:00 am — Kickoff Rules, tracks, and tools walkthrough 10:15 am — Hacking begins Expert bar open — ClickHouse engineers on-site all day 5:00 pm — Submissions close Lock in your build 5:05 pm — Demos + presentations Each team presents to judges, selected present to whole crowd 6:00 pm — Dinner + awards Cash prizes, credits, and glory **About [ClickHouse](https://clickhouse.com/?utm_source=luma)** ClickHouse is the open-source columnar database built for speed — the engine behind real-time analytics at massive scale. Whose Cloud Is It Anyway? Take ownership of your data and your costs with BYOC

From San Francisco Bay Area ClickHouse® Meetup
4.7

\*Please sign up on Luma: [https://luma.com/ruft92qf](https://luma.com/ruft92qf) SaaS is convenient right up until you need your data out, your vendor raises prices, or you need to connect internal systems. Bring Your Own Cloud splits the difference: the vendor runs the control plane, you keep the data plane in your own account. We'll go deep on design: how the control plane reaches into your VPC, where the shared responsibility line actually falls, leveraging open source databases, and cost reduction tricks that don't kill performance. Our speakers have built BYOC systems at every layer of the stack and will show the plumbing and failure modes. Come with hard questions. Bring your own cloud. Food and drinks included 🍻 *PS. Want to hear more great speakers? Laser Cutter Safety Training

Laser Cutter Safety Training

Sun, Aug 23, 9:00 PM
From Noisebridge Hackerspace
4.8

Learn how to be safe while using the laser cutter! We have a 150W, CO2 laser cutter with a 3 x 4 ft bed. This training is required to use the laser cutter because we don't want people setting our most expensive equipment donation on fire. You have to do this training even if you were trained at the old space, as we have different safety features now. Training covers * Dangers of the laser cutter * How to be safe * How to put out a fire Each participant will cut a piece of cardboard on the laser cutter while following all the safety steps. This is also a good place to ask questions about specific materials or projects. There is a 5$ fee to register, and we suggest a 20-30$ donation for this class: https://donate.noisebridge.net. If the registration fee is a barrier to your participation, please reach out to the event organisers.
